Experienced English Tutor - KS3, GCSE, A level, University
Welcome to my profile. I'm an experienced online tutor and examiner, who has been teaching English Language & Literature and Religious Studies online since 2013. I am a fully qualified teacher with a Post-Graduate Certificate in Education. While I am a passionate tutor of each of these two subjects individually, more importantly I feel that my experience in each subject contributes something to the other. For example, my knowledge of Biblical and Greek mythological references from my study of world religions is often really useful when interpreting certain texts by Shakespeare or other non-contemporary...
Ben is an amazing tutor, he’s really got my step son who has Asperger’s to engage, lessons are planned and structured, post lesson feedback given which really helps as I can send it over to his mom after his lesson and know what he needs to revise. Definitely a worthwhile investment in my step sons future!

Holly has been tutoring my son in English GCSE for the last half term. He has found the lessons very useful, working in a logical order through the different aspects of the curriculum. Holly is friendly, approachable and encouraging.
My Son has just had his mock exam results and has moved from just hitting an exam grade boundary to being 2 points off the next grade up. We are very pleased at his progress in a short space of time.

Mamun A
My son is really improving since starting lessons with Mamun. From the start of the lesson getting almost all questions wrong to by the end completely understanding it all. Tested him a few days later and he got almost every question right without any help at all he remembered all the punctuation in all questions, shocked how much he's improved from just one lesson on it! Mamun's teaching is brilliant and it really seems to stick in my sons head. Also my son is very fussy with his ASD/ADHD and is often open about his feelings towards people, especially new people most often than not he will say he doesn't like this person because of this or that, but he said he likes his tutor and wants to do more lessons which is brilliant. Mamun is always on time, very patient and explains thoroughly, he gives brilliant feedback afterwards too. Highly recommend this tutor and I'm glad I chose him rather than someone else.

Nadiah is an AMAZING English tutor.
Nadiah is very reliable, organised and efficient, prompting and guiding my son to keep on track outside of sessions aswell. I have had feedback from school after just a few months that the quality of my sons writing has improved significantly and teachers have asked if he has been doing anything different.
My son is also developing more of an interest in the subject which has been really nice to see.

Brilliant English tutors who you’ll really click with.
Our experienced tutors take the time to understand where each student needs to focus and their preferred way of learning. They make a measurable difference – 90% of all students improve by at least one grade.
My child is aiming for top GCSE English grades to compete with students from Oxford schools. Can a tutor help?
Absolutely. This is exactly where a specialist tutor can help. They can provide focused, one-to-one support to help your child master the specific skills needed to achieve grades 7-9, such as advanced textual analysis and sophisticated essay writing, building their confidence to perform at their best.
We're hoping for a place at a top university like Bristol or Bath. How can an English tutor support this goal?
A strong A-Level English grade, built on a solid GCSE foundation, is crucial for applications to top universities. A tutor can help your child develop the critical thinking and analytical skills that admissions tutors look for, and can even offer support with personal statement writing.
How do I choose the right English tutor for my child?
You can browse tutor profiles to see their experience, qualifications, and read reviews from other parents. We recommend watching their introductory videos and sending a message to a few to find someone your child will connect with. Many offer a free 15-minute chat to get to know them first.
How much does an online English tutor cost?
Our tutors set their own hourly rates based on their experience and qualifications, so you can find someone who fits your budget. Prices are clearly displayed on each tutor's profile with no hidden fees.
Are all the tutors background-checked?
Yes, your child's safety is our top priority. We interview every tutor and all must have a valid DBS check or equivalent. We are very selective, and only 1 in 8 tutors who apply are accepted onto our platform.
What happens if we don't click with the first tutor?
We want to make sure you find the perfect match. If you don't get on with your tutor, email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover your first session with a new tutor.
How can a tutor help my child build confidence?
Often, a lack of confidence comes from not understanding a specific topic. In a one-to-one setting, your child can ask questions without feeling embarrassed. A tutor can break down difficult concepts, celebrate small wins, and create a positive learning space, which really helps their self-belief grow.
How does online tutoring actually work?
It's simple! All lessons take place in our online classroom, which has video chat, an interactive whiteboard, and document sharing. All your child needs is a laptop or computer with a webcam, a microphone, and a stable internet connection.
Can a tutor help with specific texts, like Shakespeare or modern poetry?
Yes, definitely. Our English tutors are experts in the curriculum and can provide targeted support for any set text your child is studying, helping them to analyse quotes, understand themes, and structure their answers for exams.
Do you only offer academic subjects, or could my child learn something different like creative writing or public speaking?
While we have tutors for all core academic subjects, we also have experts in a huge range of other skills! From learning a musical instrument or a new language to coding and creative writing, there's a tutor for almost any interest.
How long does a typical lesson last?
The standard lesson length is one hour, which gives enough time to cover a topic in detail without your child losing focus. However, you can discuss different lesson lengths with your chosen tutor to find what works best for your child's schedule and concentration.
How will I know if my child is making progress?
Our tutors provide regular feedback on your child's progress. You can also message your tutor at any time to discuss how things are going. Seeing your child's growing confidence and improved marks on schoolwork are also great indicators.
