I am passionate about education and enjoy working in an area where I can help others to fulfil their learning potential. Since 2014 I have been tutoring children (and occasionally adults), covering English, Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning, and Maths. I was also a home educator for over a decade, taking full responsibility for the education of my own children, both at primary and secondary level, in all subjects. I will take the time to get to know each student’s individual needs and abilities so that I can deliver lessons in the way that works best for them.I have a proven track record in helping r...

GCSE Specialist: Vastly Experienced English Tutor
NOW TAKING BOOKINGS for SEPT STARTI’m a vastly experienced tutor with over 7 years experience, specializing in the core subjects (Science & English) for the GCSE years. I’ve gathered a strong reputation for helping an eclectic mix of students across both state and public schools, online and in person, individually and in small groups. I’ve worked with high-achievers, aiding them to secure grades 7-9, through to those who are more academically challenged (including some with SEN or mental health needs). With my guidance, no child has failed an exam and most of them have experienced significant boost...
Holly has been tutoring my son in English GCSE for the last half term. He has found the lessons very useful, working in a logical order through the different aspects of the curriculum. Holly is friendly, approachable and encouraging.
My Son has just had his mock exam results and has moved from just hitting an exam grade boundary to being 2 points off the next grade up. We are very pleased at his progress in a short space of time.

Mamun A
My son is really improving since starting lessons with Mamun. From the start of the lesson getting almost all questions wrong to by the end completely understanding it all. Tested him a few days later and he got almost every question right without any help at all he remembered all the punctuation in all questions, shocked how much he's improved from just one lesson on it! Mamun's teaching is brilliant and it really seems to stick in my sons head. Also my son is very fussy with his ASD/ADHD and is often open about his feelings towards people, especially new people most often than not he will say he doesn't like this person because of this or that, but he said he likes his tutor and wants to do more lessons which is brilliant. Mamun is always on time, very patient and explains thoroughly, he gives brilliant feedback afterwards too. Highly recommend this tutor and I'm glad I chose him rather than someone else.

Nadiah K
Nadiah is an AMAZING English tutor.
Nadiah is very reliable, organised and efficient, prompting and guiding my son to keep on track outside of sessions aswell. I have had feedback from school after just a few months that the quality of my sons writing has improved significantly and teachers have asked if he has been doing anything different.
My son is also developing more of an interest in the subject which has been really nice to see.

Jeremy B
After the first lesson my son announced “That was amazing Mum, you need to watch the video, he was SUCH a good teacher”. This couldn’t have been more different to previous feedback on our attempts to find an English tutor. I’m delighted that Jeremy is structured in his lessons, but also his tone is very friendly and fun! My 12 year old son has Tourettes and ADHD, and has been quite unwell. It’s also done wonders for my mental health knowing Jeremy is guiding my son through English, after seeing the videos I do not have this skill! 100% recommend him!

Wonderful English Tutor!
Michelle has been an incredible English tutor for our daughter Sarah. She always starts each session with a fun “mind boggle,” which Sarah absolutely loves — it sets such a positive and energising tone for the lesson. From the moment she enters the class, Michelle makes Sarah smile.
Her lessons are interesting, engaging, and thoughtfully planned. Michelle brings a fantastic mix of humour, enthusiasm, and kindness to every session, and it truly shows in Sarah’s enjoyment and progress. She has a wonderful teaching style that keeps Sarah motivated and excited to learn.
We are so grateful for Michelle’s support and highly recommend her to anyone looking for an English tutor who can make learning both effective and fun.
Thank you Michelle.

Brilliant English tutors who you’ll really click with.
Our experienced tutors take the time to understand where each student needs to focus and their preferred way of learning. They make a measurable difference – 90% of all students improve by at least one grade.
My child hopes to study at Bangor University. Can a tutor help with that?
Yes, absolutely. Many of our English tutors are experienced in helping students secure the top GCSE and A-Level grades required by competitive universities, including Bangor University. They can focus on exam technique and subject knowledge to help your child feel prepared and confident.
My child is in a Welsh-medium school. Can a tutor help them specifically with their English Language GCSE?
We understand this is a common concern. Our tutors are skilled at identifying and strengthening specific areas of weakness in English for students from all school backgrounds. They can provide targeted support to ensure your child's English skills are just as strong as their Welsh, giving them the best chance of achieving a top grade.
How do I choose the right English tutor for my child?
You can view detailed tutor profiles which include their experience, qualifications, and reviews from other parents. You can also message tutors for free before booking to discuss your child's needs and make sure it's a great fit. It's how over 200,000 students have found their perfect tutor.
What if my child doesn't click with their first tutor?
We know that the right relationship is key to learning. That's why we have our First Lesson Guarantee. If you don't get on with your tutor for any reason, just email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover your first session with a new tutor.
Are all the tutors safe and background-checked?
Your child's safety is our highest priority. Every tutor is interviewed by our team and must have a valid DBS background check. We are very selective, accepting only 1 in 8 tutors who apply to our platform, so you can have complete peace of mind.
How much does an online English tutor cost?
Prices vary depending on the tutor's experience and qualifications. You can see each tutor's hourly rate clearly on their profile and use our search filters to find someone who fits your budget. There are no hidden costs or extra fees.
How does online tutoring work?
It's simple! All lessons take place in our purpose-built online classroom, which features video chat, an interactive whiteboard, and the ability to share documents. All your child needs is a laptop or computer with a webcam and a stable internet connection.
How can a tutor help my child build confidence in English?
Sometimes, a lack of confidence is the biggest barrier to progress. In a one-to-one setting, your child has a safe space to ask questions and work at their own pace without the pressure of a full classroom. This personalised, patient support is often the key to helping them feel confident in their abilities.
Can a tutor help with a specific part of the English curriculum, like GCSE poetry?
Definitely. The great thing about one-to-one tuition is that it's completely tailored. If your child finds poetry analysis tricky, their tutor can dedicate entire sessions to breaking down poems, understanding literary devices, and practising exam-style questions.
Is tutoring only for academic subjects like English?
Not at all! While we help thousands of students with core subjects, we also have amazing tutors for hobbies and life skills. Whether your child wants to learn to play the guitar, master coding in Python, or even learn a new language, we can help.
How long is a typical tutoring session?
Most sessions are one hour long, as this gives enough time to cover a topic in detail without your child losing focus. However, you can discuss your needs directly with your chosen tutor, as many are flexible.
How many lessons will my child need?
This really depends on your child's individual goals. Some students have a few sessions to prepare for a specific exam, while others have weekly lessons throughout the school year. You can discuss a plan with your tutor to figure out what will work best for your child.
