Shannon was my AQA A-Level Philosophy tutor and honestly, words cannot describe how wonderful and beneficial she was to my achievements within this subject! I was really struggling with philosophy and she helped me increase my grade significantly so I could secure a place in Durham University. She created these incredibly helpful PowerPoint presentations which simplified complex concepts into simple, coherent explanations. Also, she provided an amazing 25 marker essay structure and explained how each criteria within the mark scheme could be obtained. Shannon helped revitalise my love for philosophy, which had dwindled a due to exams and stress. I initially felt reluctant to share my opinions within my class because I felt my knowledge on philosophy was not strong enough, but, with Shannon, I felt comfortable and confident to share my opinions, question philosophers and deeply explore topics. We have had many delightful and thorough philosophical conversations and debates. I am forever grateful she was philosophy tutor! Thank you Shannon! :)

Brilliant Philosophy tutors who you’ll really click with.
Our experienced tutors take the time to understand where each student needs to focus and their preferred way of learning. They make a measurable difference – 90% of all students improve by at least one grade.
With Durham University's high standards, can an online tutor really help my child compete?
Absolutely. Our tutors, many of whom are graduates from top universities themselves, specialise in building the analytical and critical thinking skills that admissions tutors at places like Durham look for. They help students go beyond the curriculum to develop a genuine passion and a confident, articulate voice.
My child's school in County Durham offers limited Philosophy. Can tutoring fill that gap?
Yes, that's one of the main reasons parents in County Durham come to us. Our online tutors can create a bespoke programme that either supports their current studies (like Religious Studies or EPQs) or introduces them to Philosophy from scratch, ensuring they aren't at a disadvantage.
How does online tutoring work for a family in County Durham?
It's simple and convenient. Your child can connect with their tutor from home using our secure video platform. There's no need to travel, meaning you can access the very best UK tutors without being limited to who lives nearby. All you need is a laptop or tablet and an internet connection.
What if my child doesn't click with their first Philosophy tutor?
Finding the right personality match is crucial, and we understand that. If the first session isn't a perfect fit, just email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk. We'll be happy to cover the cost of your first lesson with a new tutor.
Is online tutoring as effective as meeting a tutor in person?
Yes, and for many students, it's even better. Our interactive whiteboard allows tutors and students to share notes, analyse texts, and map out arguments in real-time. Plus, the access to a wider pool of specialist tutors from across the UK often means you find a much better match for your child's specific needs.
How do you vet your tutors?
We're very selective – only 1 in 8 tutors who apply are accepted. Every tutor is interviewed by a member of our team, has their ID and qualifications checked, and undergoes a background check to ensure they're a great fit for our students.
Can a tutor help specifically with writing Philosophy essays?
Definitely. Essay writing is a key skill in Philosophy. Tutors can help your child structure arguments, use evidence effectively, write with clarity, and understand exactly what examiners are looking for to achieve higher grades.
How will I know if my child is making progress?
Our tutors provide regular feedback and work with you and your child to set clear goals. You'll see it in their growing confidence, their ability to tackle complex ideas, and, of course, in their improved schoolwork and essays.
How much do online Philosophy tutors cost?
Our tutors set their own rates, typically starting from £20 per hour, based on their experience and qualifications. You can easily filter by price on their profiles to find a brilliant tutor who fits your budget.
How flexible is scheduling for lessons?
It's completely flexible. You can arrange session times directly with your tutor to fit around school, clubs, and family life. Many tutors offer evenings and weekend slots to suit busy schedules.
Do you offer Philosophy tutoring for all levels?
Yes, we have tutors who specialise in everything from introducing the basics to curious beginners, right through to supporting students with their GCSE, A-Level, and even university-level studies.
Can a tutor help specifically with writing Philosophy essays?
We believe in learning for life! Beyond Philosophy, we have expert tutors for everything from coding and music production to learning a new language or even public speaking. It's a great way for them to explore new passions.
