Understanding and patient Maths tutor
I’m a graduate in Accounting and Finance from the University Of Warwick with wide experience tutoring maths, economics and sciences, particularly physics. I have done both the old style exams and the new ones, which puts me in a good position to help all students and apply the best resources to their revision for their specific exam.To me, defeating any tricky exam is a process of a few steps: Know the facts. This is the first and most obvious step in doing well. Factual recall is the basis of getting good marks. This can often be difficult, but breaking it down into smaller chunks, and being "...

Jack R
We’ve had a fantastic experience with Jack as a maths tutor - so far my daughter had three sessions with him. Jack is an excellent communicator and explains concepts clearly and step-by-step, making even the all topics feel manageable. His lessons are well-structured and thoughtfully tailored to my daughter’s needs (we aim for confidence in class and confident GCSE mark).
Jack is also incredibly friendly and positive, which creates a really encouraging learning environment - one of my key requirements. My daughter genuinely enjoys her lessons with him and is already feeling much more confident in her maths curriculum. Highly recommended!

Brilliant Maths tutors who you’ll really click with.
Our experienced tutors take the time to understand where each student needs to focus and their preferred way of learning. They make a measurable difference – 90% of all students improve by at least one grade.
My child wants to study A-Level Maths at The Hemel Hempstead School. Can a tutor help them get the required GCSE grade?
Absolutely. Many parents in Hemel Hempstead share this goal. Our tutors are experienced in helping students target the specific grades needed for competitive sixth forms, often a Grade 7 or above. They can focus on closing knowledge gaps and refining exam technique to help your child meet that entry requirement.
We're thinking ahead to university. Can a tutor support A-Level students aiming for STEM courses at places like the University of Hertfordshire?
Yes, definitely. Many of our Maths tutors are specialists in A-Level content and have helped students secure places on demanding STEM courses at universities across the UK. They can provide that extra depth of understanding needed to excel in A-Levels and prepare for university-level study.
What if my child doesn't click with their first tutor?
Finding the right personality match is so important. That's why we have our First Lesson Guarantee. If for any reason you feel the first tutor isn't the perfect fit, just email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover your first session with a new tutor.
Do you only offer academic subjects, or can my child learn other skills like coding or a musical instrument?
We offer a huge range of subjects beyond the school curriculum! From learning to play the guitar or speak Spanish, to mastering skills like coding or public speaking, we have expert tutors to help your child explore their passions and develop new talents.
How do I choose the right Maths tutor for my child?
You can read detailed tutor profiles which include their experience, qualifications, and reviews from other parents just like you. Many tutors also have introductory videos to give you a feel for their personality. You can message them for free before booking to make sure they're the right fit for your child's needs.
How much does a Maths tutor for a student in Hemel Hempstead cost?
Our tutors set their own rates, so prices vary depending on their experience and level of expertise. You can easily filter your search by price to find a brilliant tutor who fits your family's budget. There are no hidden fees or contracts.
How do you make sure the tutors are safe and qualified?
Your child's safety is our top priority. We have a strict vetting process and only accept 1 in every 8 tutors who apply. Every tutor is interviewed by our team, has their ID and qualifications checked, and undergoes an enhanced DBS background check.
My child's confidence in Maths is low. How can a tutor help with that?
This is one of the biggest benefits of one-to-one tutoring. In a supportive, patient environment, your child can ask questions they might be too shy to ask in class. A tutor can break down topics into manageable steps, celebrate small wins, and show them they really are capable of understanding Maths.
How effective is online tutoring compared to in-person?
Our online classroom is designed to be just as effective, if not more so. It has an interactive whiteboard, file sharing, and video chat, making lessons engaging and collaborative. Plus, with over 200,000 happy students and 90% improving by at least one grade, we know it works.
How will I know if my child is making progress?
Our tutors provide regular feedback, and you can message them at any time through the platform to discuss your child's progress. You’ll also see it in your child's growing confidence and improved results at school.
How often should my child have a tutoring session?
Most families find that one session a week is a great starting point for consistent progress. However, it's completely flexible. You might want more frequent sessions in the run-up to an exam, or less frequent ones for general support. You can discuss the best plan with your chosen tutor.
What equipment does my child need for an online lesson?
It's very simple. All your child needs is a laptop or computer with a webcam and microphone, and a stable internet connection. Our online classroom is browser-based, so there's no software to download.
