Eleanor B
Great first 'getting to know' lesson. Ellie helped Monty warm to the idea of tutoring by tapping nicely into his interests (he said afterwards that he really liked her) . He is positive about having another session next week. It was good that they could discuss his current school book; I think this is going to help him.

Hannah B
Within 5 minutes of specking to Hannah, I knew she was going to be my son’s tutor. She’s personable, passionate and knows her industry inside out. We’ve only had 2 lessons, but I can see the confidence and enjoyment on my son’s face as he’s learning. My son said after his 2nd lesson, ‘Hannah is so calm and I’m really enjoying tutoring’. We are actually so blessed to have found Hannah.

Nic H
Nic is a very experienced teacher who is able to adapt to different children, with an array of tools up her sleeve to keep the child engaged. After every lesson Nic is very good at telling me what they went through and what we should be focusing on. I think I am even learning myself on letter formation!
My daughter is a high functioning autistic person in reception, who needs to close some gaps in her phonics, numbers and handwriting. The leap from reception to year 1 can be difficult and Nic is helping me to get my daughter to a level where she will feel stable with the transition.
I was worried that a 1hr lesson would be too hard for my daughter and that she would not be engaged. My daughter is fully engaged and I am very impressed with what my daughter can achieve in her lesson.

Brilliant Reading tutors who you’ll really click with.
Our experienced tutors take the time to understand where each student needs to focus and their preferred way of learning. They make a measurable difference – 90% of all students improve by at least one grade.
My child is worried about the step up to a secondary school like Harton Academy. Can a tutor help?
Absolutely. This is a common concern for many parents. A tutor can help bridge the gap between primary and secondary school by strengthening your child's core reading skills, building their confidence with more complex texts, and ensuring they feel prepared and ready for the new academic challenges ahead.
We hope our child will go to South Tyneside College. Can a tutor help with the reading skills needed for further education?
Yes. Strong reading and comprehension skills are essential for all post-16 courses. A tutor can work with your child to develop the analytical and critical reading abilities they'll need for their chosen subjects, giving them a solid foundation for success at college and beyond.
How do I choose the right Reading tutor for my child?
It's all about finding the right fit. You can read tutor profiles, watch their introductory videos, and check reviews from other parents. We recommend sending a message to a few tutors to discuss your child's specific needs before booking. This helps ensure you find someone your child will connect with.
What if we don't click with the first tutor?
We want to make sure you have the best possible experience, which is why we offer a First Lesson Guarantee. If you don't get on with your tutor for any reason, email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover your first session with a new tutor.
How much does online Reading tutoring cost?
Prices vary depending on the tutor's experience and qualifications. Tutors set their own hourly rates, which are clearly displayed on their profiles. This transparency allows you to find an experienced, high-quality tutor who fits within your budget.
Are all your tutors background-checked?
Yes, your child's safety is our top priority. Every tutor on our platform undergoes a thorough vetting process, including identity and background checks. We are very selective and only accept 1 in every 8 tutors who apply, so you can be sure your child is in safe, expert hands.
My child finds reading boring. How can a tutor help with that?
A great tutor knows how to make learning engaging. They can connect reading to your child's own interests, whether that's football, gaming, or art, and find books and texts that capture their imagination. By making it fun, they can help turn reading into a pleasure rather than a chore.
How does online tutoring actually work?
It's simple! All lessons take place in our purpose-built online classroom, which features a video chat, an interactive whiteboard, and document sharing. All your child needs is a laptop or computer with a webcam, a microphone, and a stable internet connection.
How long will it take to see an improvement in my child's reading?
Every child learns at their own pace, but consistency is key. Many parents tell us they see a boost in their child's confidence even after the first few sessions. Regular lessons help to build momentum and reinforce learning for long-term progress.
Do you only offer tutors for school subjects?
While we cover all academic subjects from primary to university level, we also have amazing tutors for hobbies and life skills. So if your child wants to learn guitar, coding, or even a new language, we can help with that too.
What age groups do your Reading tutors teach?
We have tutors who specialise in teaching children of all ages, from building phonics skills with very young learners in primary school to helping teenagers analyse complex texts for their A-Levels. You can filter your search to find a tutor with the right experience for your child's age group.
How do I pay for the lessons?
Payments are handled securely and easily through the platform. You add your card details to your account, and you're only charged 24 hours after each lesson is completed. There are no complicated contracts or upfront fees.
