Shannon was my AQA A-Level Philosophy tutor and honestly, words cannot describe how wonderful and beneficial she was to my achievements within this subject! I was really struggling with philosophy and she helped me increase my grade significantly so I could secure a place in Durham University. She created these incredibly helpful PowerPoint presentations which simplified complex concepts into simple, coherent explanations. Also, she provided an amazing 25 marker essay structure and explained how each criteria within the mark scheme could be obtained. Shannon helped revitalise my love for philosophy, which had dwindled a due to exams and stress. I initially felt reluctant to share my opinions within my class because I felt my knowledge on philosophy was not strong enough, but, with Shannon, I felt comfortable and confident to share my opinions, question philosophers and deeply explore topics. We have had many delightful and thorough philosophical conversations and debates. I am forever grateful she was philosophy tutor! Thank you Shannon! :)

My child is aiming for Leicester Grammar School's sixth form. Can a tutor help them get the GCSE grades for Philosophy A-Level?
Absolutely. That's a goal we can certainly work towards together. Our tutors specialise in helping students secure the top grades needed for competitive sixth forms. They can focus on exam technique, essay writing, and mastering the specific content required to give your child the best possible chance of meeting those entry requirements.
With the University of Leicester nearby, we're thinking long-term. Can tutoring now prepare my child for university-level thinking?
Yes, it’s a brilliant way to prepare them. Philosophy tutoring at this stage isn't just about passing exams; it's about developing the critical analysis and independent thinking skills that are essential for university. A great tutor will challenge your child to think more deeply, preparing them for the intellectual rigour of degree-level study.
Is online tutoring as effective as meeting a tutor in person in Leicester?
We find it's even more effective for many families. Online tutoring removes geographical barriers, giving your child in Leicester access to the very best Philosophy tutors from across the UK, not just those who live nearby. With interactive whiteboards and resource sharing, lessons are just as engaging, plus you save time and money on travel.
What happens if my child doesn't click with their first Philosophy tutor?
We know that the right fit is crucial. That's why we have our first lesson guarantee. If you don't get on with your first tutor for any reason, just email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover your first session with a new tutor.

My child is interested in Philosophy, but also needs help with essay writing for English. Can we find a tutor for both?
Yes, many of our tutors have expertise across multiple humanities subjects. The skills needed for a brilliant Philosophy essay often overlap with English. You can view each tutor's profile to see the full range of subjects they offer and find the perfect match for your child's needs.

How much do online Philosophy lessons for a student in Leicester typically cost?
This is one of the biggest changes we see. When a child works one-to-one with a supportive tutor who tailors lessons to their learning style, they start to experience those 'aha!' moments. This builds momentum and self-belief, often transforming how they feel about the subject and their own abilities.
