Oxford Graduate Languages Tutor and Latin Tutor
I am a London-based, highly experienced Key Stage 3, GCSE, A Level and IB tutor in both French and Latin, having taught a total of around 800 hours at this point. My experience includes the following:- I have single-handedly taught a Year 8 student French GCSE. Since his school lesson schedule didn't permit him to study French there, he and I were the only two responsible for his French GCSE grade - an 8 - which he achieved as a Year 9 student this summer.- Two years ago I was able to raise the grade of a dyslexic student predicted a 5 to the final achievement of an 8 (this Year 11 student began...

Cambridge Examiner - Latin and Languages Tutor
I love teaching languages. I have taught Latin and Spanish in both the independent and maintained sectors and have run Adult Education courses for Local Authorities. I tutor Latin, Spanish and French at both GCSE and “A” Level. My strength as a tutor is in being able to detect the areas of knowledge or skill with which the student needs help and tailoring the lessons to improve the student’s performance in those areas. Having examined many past papers at both GCSE and A Level, I am very familiar with the examination style and content in my subjects of expertise. I graduated in Classics (Latin and A...

I've taught children with SEN, EAL, behavioural problems and gifted children, across all primary stages. In the past 2 years, I have been tutoring online. Most of my teaching has been in Year 6, specialising in getting children ready for the 11+ exams (English, Maths, Verbal & Non Verbal) and SATs papers (Reading, SPaG & Maths). Carmen G
During my lessons with Carmen, she was very patient with me when I made errors and mistakes. She didn't judge or reprimand me at all, and instead made me feel confident and comfortable with speaking Spanish. As I am studying the A-Level Spanish course, she would give me extra material to study which relates to the exam topics, and give me practice in speaking, writing and listening. It was a lovely experience and I hope to book her again.

Carol G
Carol is brilliant! She clearly knows her subject inside out and tailors the lessons and homework excellently, too, often adapting ‘on the go’ -as stuff comes up, that leads to interesting tangents of related learning on the subject. She is really friendly …. and interesting, too, with fascinating life experiences, like living in Ibiza for years with her kids when younger. Highly recommended by me? Yes indeed! Look no further, you’ve found a brilliant tutor who provides incredibly good value one to one teaching!

Brilliant Languages tutors who you’ll really click with.
Our experienced tutors take the time to understand where each student needs to focus and their preferred way of learning. They make a measurable difference – 90% of all students improve by at least one grade.
My child is aiming for a top university like LSE or Oxbridge. Can a tutor help with this specific goal?
Absolutely. Many of our Languages tutors are experienced in helping students prepare for competitive university applications. They can work with your child on advanced topics, essay writing, and interview techniques to help them demonstrate the high level of fluency and cultural understanding that these institutions look for.
With so many bilingual children in Kensington, how can a tutor help my child truly stand out?
A great tutor can help your child move from simple proficiency to genuine fluency. They do this by focusing on areas often overlooked in a busy classroom, such as perfecting their accent, understanding cultural nuances, and building the confidence to speak spontaneously and debate complex topics. This deeper level of skill is what makes a candidate memorable.
How do I choose the right Languages tutor for my child?
It's all about finding the right fit for your child's personality and learning style. You can read detailed tutor profiles, watch introductory videos, and check ratings from other parents. We recommend messaging a few tutors to discuss your child's goals before booking a lesson to ensure you find the perfect match.
What if my child doesn't click with their first tutor?
We know that the right student-tutor relationship is key to success, which is why we have our First Lesson Guarantee. If for any reason you feel the first tutor isn't the right fit, just email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover your first session with a new tutor.
How does online tutoring work?
It's simple and effective. All lessons take place in our purpose-built online classroom, which features a video chat, an interactive whiteboard, and the ability to share documents. All your child needs is a laptop or computer with a webcam, a microphone, and a stable internet connection.
Are the tutors background-checked?
Yes, your child's safety is our top priority. Every single tutor on our platform has been through a rigorous selection process and has had their ID and background checked. We are very selective, and only 1 in every 8 tutors who apply is accepted to work with us.
How much do Languages tutors cost?
Tutors set their own hourly rates based on their experience and qualifications, so you can find someone who fits your budget. Prices are clearly displayed on each tutor's profile, and there are no hidden fees or complicated contracts.
How can a tutor help my child build confidence in speaking a new language?
One-to-one lessons provide a safe, supportive space for your child to practise speaking without the fear of making mistakes in front of a whole class. Tutors use encouragement and positive feedback to build self-esteem, which is often the most important factor in becoming a confident speaker.
Is tutoring just for school subjects, or can my child learn other skills?
While we have fantastic tutors for core academic subjects, we also offer support in a huge range of other areas. Your child could learn anything from coding or playing the guitar to music production and public speaking. There's a tutor for almost any interest.
Can a tutor help prepare my child for their GCSE or A-Level language exams?
Yes, definitely. Our tutors are experts in the curriculum and can provide targeted support to help your child master exam technique, revise tricky topics, and improve their grades. For GCSEs, our students often improve by up to two grades.
How long are the sessions and how often should we have them?
Most lessons are one hour long, which is usually ideal for maintaining focus. Most families find that one session per week is a great starting point, but you can arrange lessons as frequently as you feel your child needs. It's completely flexible and you can discuss the best approach with your tutor.
How much do Languages tutors cost?
We have tutors for a wide variety of languages, including popular choices like French, Spanish, and German, as well as Italian, Mandarin, Japanese, and many more. You can easily search for the specific language your child is studying or wants to learn.
