David J
Experienced French Tutor
When it comes to History, I have always loved the subject, leading me to secure my place at the University of Leeds and to follow through my degree and gain a 2:1. While doing so, I had a fantastic time living in Leeds, which is why I came back to live here. My focus was on the British Empire, but having studied History all the way through school and university, my experience with the subject is very broad. For example I studied Britain from 1880-1980 and Nazi Germany at A Level, and American foreign policy and race relations and the Russian Revolution at GCSE. History is one of the most important...

Genevieve M
Genevieve is a fantastic tutor. She is extremely engaging to learn from, explaining everything very patiently and clearly, and she has a really good sense of humour. I’m particularly impressed by the effort she puts in to prepare extra learning materials for me between classes based on the specifics of what I struggled with in the previous lesson. I really didn’t expect that level of additional work from her, it’s so thoughtful and helpful. I intend to be learning French up to conversational fluency so I need many, many hours of teaching, and I am therefore very glad I chose Genevieve to deliver them as she makes the time fly by.

Brilliant French tutors who you’ll really click with.
Our experienced tutors take the time to understand where each student needs to focus and their preferred way of learning. They make a measurable difference – 90% of all students improve by at least one grade.
My child hopes to study A-Levels at Cardinal Newman College. Can a tutor help prepare them?
Yes, absolutely. A tutor can help bridge the gap between GCSE and A-Level French, ensuring your child has a really solid foundation. They can work on the specific skills needed for the A-Level curriculum, building their confidence right from the start of Year 12.
We live in Garstang. Can a strong French grade really help an application to Lancaster University?
It certainly can. A strong grade in a modern foreign language demonstrates academic range and dedication, which is valued by competitive universities like Lancaster. It strengthens a UCAS application and shows your child has a broad and useful skillset, whatever they plan to study.
How do I choose the best French tutor for my child?
It's all about finding the right fit. You can read tutor profiles, watch their introductory videos, and check reviews from other parents. We recommend messaging a few to discuss your child's specific needs before booking. Finding someone your child connects with is key to their success.
What happens if we don't click with the first tutor?
We want to make sure you find the perfect match. With our First Lesson Guarantee, if you don't get on with your tutor, email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover your first session with a new tutor.
How much does online French tutoring cost in Garstang?
Our tutors set their own hourly rates based on their experience and qualifications, so you can find someone who fits your budget. Prices are clearly displayed on each tutor's profile, with no hidden costs or contracts.
Are your tutors background-checked?
Yes, your child's safety is our top priority. Every tutor on our platform has passed an ID check and has an up-to-date DBS check. We are very selective, accepting only 1 in every 8 tutors who apply, so you can have complete peace of mind.
How can a tutor help my child with their French GCSEs?
A tutor can provide focused support on the trickiest parts of the GCSE French exam. They can help with everything from building vocabulary and mastering grammar for the writing paper to practicing conversation for the speaking assessment, giving your child the tools to feel confident on exam day.
My child has lost all their confidence in French. How can a tutor help?
This is very common, and it's where one-to-one tutoring can make the biggest difference. A tutor provides a safe, patient space for your child to ask questions without feeling embarrassed. By celebrating small wins and building on their strengths, a tutor can help rebuild their self-belief, step by step.
How do online lessons actually work?
Our online classroom has everything your child needs for a great lesson, including a video chat, an interactive whiteboard, and a space to share documents. All your child needs is a laptop or computer with a webcam, a microphone, and a stable internet connection.
Do you only offer academic subjects like French?
Not at all! While we have experts for core subjects like French, Maths, and English for all levels from 11+ to degree, we also have talented tutors who can teach hobbies and life skills. Your child could learn to play the guitar, get started with coding, or even learn a new language for fun.
How long will my child need tutoring for?
There's no single answer to this, as every child is different. Some students use tutoring for a short-term boost before an exam, while others benefit from weekly sessions over a longer period to build their skills and confidence. You can discuss your child's goals with their tutor.
How can a tutor help my child with their French GCSEs?
Your tutor will provide regular feedback on your child’s development. You'll be able to see their confidence grow, and this is often reflected in their schoolwork and test results. Many parents tell us they see a positive change in their child's attitude towards a subject after just a few sessions.
