My daughter has been having tutoring session with Jo for some time now, her reading has improved so much in that time. Eleanor B
Great first 'getting to know' lesson. Ellie helped Monty warm to the idea of tutoring by tapping nicely into his interests (he said afterwards that he really liked her) . He is positive about having another session next week. It was good that they could discuss his current school book; I think this is going to help him.

Hannah B
Within 5 minutes of specking to Hannah, I knew she was going to be my son’s tutor. She’s personable, passionate and knows her industry inside out. We’ve only had 2 lessons, but I can see the confidence and enjoyment on my son’s face as he’s learning. My son said after his 2nd lesson, ‘Hannah is so calm and I’m really enjoying tutoring’. We are actually so blessed to have found Hannah.

Nic H
Nic is a very experienced teacher who is able to adapt to different children, with an array of tools up her sleeve to keep the child engaged. After every lesson Nic is very good at telling me what they went through and what we should be focusing on. I think I am even learning myself on letter formation!
My daughter is a high functioning autistic person in reception, who needs to close some gaps in her phonics, numbers and handwriting. The leap from reception to year 1 can be difficult and Nic is helping me to get my daughter to a level where she will feel stable with the transition.
I was worried that a 1hr lesson would be too hard for my daughter and that she would not be engaged. My daughter is fully engaged and I am very impressed with what my daughter can achieve in her lesson.

Brilliant Reading tutors who you’ll really click with.
Our experienced tutors take the time to understand where each student needs to focus and their preferred way of learning. They make a measurable difference – 90% of all students improve by at least one grade.
My child is aiming for a competitive Sheffield school like Tapton or Silverdale. Can a tutor help?
Yes, absolutely. Our tutors can help build the core reading and comprehension skills your child needs to feel prepared and confident. They can create a tailored plan to strengthen any weak areas, ensuring your child has a solid foundation to handle the faster pace of a competitive secondary school.
With the University of Sheffield nearby, the academic standards feel high. How can a tutor help prepare my child?
A tutor can help bridge the gap between primary and secondary education, fostering the critical thinking and analytical skills that are essential for higher-level study. They introduce concepts in an accessible way, building a strong academic mindset from an early age, which is fantastic preparation for future challenges like GCSEs, A-Levels, and university.
How do I choose the right Reading tutor for my child?
It's all about finding the right fit. You can watch introductory videos, read reviews from other parents, and message tutors for free to discuss your child's needs. Look for someone your child will get on with – a tutor who is patient, encouraging, and has experience with your child's age group.
What if my child doesn't click with their first tutor?
We know how important the right student-tutor relationship is. That's why we have our First Lesson Guarantee. If you don't get on with your tutor, email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover your first session with a new tutor.
How much do online Reading tutors in Sheffield cost?
Prices vary depending on the tutor's experience and qualifications. Tutors set their own rates, which you can see clearly on their profiles. This transparency allows you to find an experienced, high-quality tutor that fits within your budget.
How can a tutor help my child with reading comprehension specifically?
A tutor can use targeted exercises and engaging texts to help your child learn how to read between the lines, understand context, and identify key themes. In a one-to-one session, they can patiently work through passages, helping your child build the confidence to tackle complex texts on their own.
Are all your tutors background-checked?
Yes, your child's safety is our top priority. Every single UK-based tutor on our platform has passed an enhanced DBS check. We also interview every tutor and verify their ID to ensure you can have complete peace of mind.
How does online tutoring work?
It's simple! All lessons take place in our purpose-built online classroom. It has an interactive whiteboard, video chat, and file sharing, making lessons engaging and collaborative. All you and your child need is a computer or tablet with a stable internet connection.
How long will it take to see an improvement in my child's reading?
Every child learns at their own pace, but consistency is key. Many parents notice a boost in their child's confidence after just a few sessions. The regular, focused support helps to build skills and understanding week by week.
Can tutoring help if my child has fallen behind at school?
Definitely. One-to-one tutoring is a fantastic way to help your child catch up in a supportive, pressure-free environment. A tutor can go back over topics your child didn't quite grasp in class, fill in any gaps, and rebuild their confidence.
How can tutoring build my child's confidence, not just their grades?
Confidence comes from understanding. When a tutor helps your child finally grasp a tricky concept, it creates a powerful 'I can do this' moment. These small wins build up over time, helping your child feel more positive about their abilities in and out of the classroom.
Do you only offer academic subjects, or can my child learn other skills?
While we support all academic subjects from Primary through to A-Levels and beyond, we also have tutors for a huge range of other skills and hobbies. Whether your child wants to learn to play the guitar, start coding with Python, or speak a new language, we can help them find a brilliant tutor.
