Great first 'getting to know' lesson. Ellie helped Monty warm to the idea of tutoring by tapping nicely into his interests (he said afterwards that he really liked her) . Nic is a very experienced teacher who is able to adapt to different children, with an array of tools up her sleeve to keep the child engaged. After every lesson Nic is very good at telling me what they went through and what we should be focusing on. I think I am even learning myself on letter formation!
My daughter is a high functioning autistic person in reception, who needs to close some gaps in her phonics, numbers and handwriting. The leap from reception to year 1 can be difficult and Nic is helping me to get my daughter to a level where she will feel stable with the transition.
I was worried that a 1hr lesson would be too hard for my daughter and that she would not be engaged. My daughter is fully engaged and I am very impressed with what my daughter can achieve in her lesson.

Are your tutors background-checked?
Yes, your child's safety is our top priority. Every UK-based tutor must provide a valid DBS certificate and references before they can join Tutorful. We're very selective and only accept 1 in every 8 tutors who apply.

Most lessons are one hour long, which we find is perfect for covering a topic in depth without losing focus. However, you can arrange different session lengths directly with your chosen tutor to suit your child's needs and concentration span.
My child has dyslexia. Can I find a tutor with experience in this?
Yes, many of our tutors have specific experience and qualifications in supporting students with SEN, including dyslexia. You can check their profiles for this information and use the messaging system to ask them about their approach before you book.
How will I know if my child is making progress?
Your tutor will provide regular feedback on your child's development. You'll also see it in their growing confidence, their ability to tackle reading tasks more independently, and hopefully, in their school results and reports.
