Eleanor B
Great first 'getting to know' lesson. Ellie helped Monty warm to the idea of tutoring by tapping nicely into his interests (he said afterwards that he really liked her) . He is positive about having another session next week. It was good that they could discuss his current school book; I think this is going to help him.

Hannah B
Within 5 minutes of specking to Hannah, I knew she was going to be my son’s tutor. She’s personable, passionate and knows her industry inside out. We’ve only had 2 lessons, but I can see the confidence and enjoyment on my son’s face as he’s learning. My son said after his 2nd lesson, ‘Hannah is so calm and I’m really enjoying tutoring’. We are actually so blessed to have found Hannah.

Nic H
Nic is a very experienced teacher who is able to adapt to different children, with an array of tools up her sleeve to keep the child engaged. After every lesson Nic is very good at telling me what they went through and what we should be focusing on. I think I am even learning myself on letter formation!
My daughter is a high functioning autistic person in reception, who needs to close some gaps in her phonics, numbers and handwriting. The leap from reception to year 1 can be difficult and Nic is helping me to get my daughter to a level where she will feel stable with the transition.
I was worried that a 1hr lesson would be too hard for my daughter and that she would not be engaged. My daughter is fully engaged and I am very impressed with what my daughter can achieve in her lesson.

Brilliant Reading tutors who you’ll really click with.
Our experienced tutors take the time to understand where each student needs to focus and their preferred way of learning. They make a measurable difference – 90% of all students improve by at least one grade.
My child will be starting at Newquay Tretherras soon. Can a tutor help them prepare for the reading demands?
Absolutely. A tutor can work with your child to strengthen their reading comprehension and speed, which is a huge help when they face more complex texts across all subjects in secondary school. They can build your child's confidence so they feel ready and prepared from day one.
We're thinking ahead to A-Levels at Truro and Penwith College. How can a Reading tutor help?
That's a great way to plan ahead. Strong analytical and critical reading skills are essential for A-Level success. A tutor can help your child learn how to deconstruct complex articles, academic papers, and literature, giving them a significant advantage when they begin their college courses.
How do I choose the right Reading tutor for my child?
You can view each tutor's profile to see their experience, qualifications, and read reviews from other parents. We recommend sending messages to a few tutors to discuss your child's needs before booking. It's all about finding someone your child connects with.
How much does online Reading tutoring cost?
Our tutors set their own prices based on their experience, typically ranging from £15 to £35 per hour. You can filter your search by price to find a brilliant tutor who fits your budget.
What if we don't click with the first tutor?
We want to make sure you find the perfect match. With our First Lesson Guarantee, if you don't get on with your tutor, email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover your first session with a new tutor.
How do online lessons work?
They take place in our purpose-built online classroom. It features a video chat, an interactive whiteboard, and a space to share documents. All your child needs is a laptop or computer with a stable internet connection, a webcam, and a microphone.
Are your tutors background-checked?
Yes, your child's safety is our top priority. Every UK-based tutor must provide a valid DBS certificate and references before they can join Tutorful. We're very selective and only accept 1 in every 8 tutors who apply.
How can a tutor improve my child's reading comprehension?
A tutor can teach specific strategies for understanding texts, like how to identify the main idea, make inferences, and analyse an author's language. They use practice exercises and targeted questions in a supportive one-to-one setting to build these crucial skills.
Is tutoring just for core subjects, or can my child learn other skills?
We offer tutoring in over 300 subjects! So while we can certainly help with core academic skills like Reading, Maths, and Science, your child could also learn to play the guitar, speak Spanish, or even get into coding.
How long should a tutoring session be?
Most lessons are one hour long, which we find is perfect for covering a topic in depth without losing focus. However, you can arrange different session lengths directly with your chosen tutor to suit your child's needs and concentration span.
My child has dyslexia. Can I find a tutor with experience in this?
Yes, many of our tutors have specific experience and qualifications in supporting students with SEN, including dyslexia. You can check their profiles for this information and use the messaging system to ask them about their approach before you book.
How will I know if my child is making progress?
Your tutor will provide regular feedback on your child's development. You'll also see it in their growing confidence, their ability to tackle reading tasks more independently, and hopefully, in their school results and reports.
