Amy W is very concise and extremely helpful when getting complicated information wrapped around your head. She is super friendly and easy to talk to, which makes sessions comfortable and stress-free. The only hiccup is the wifi choosing to bug out, now and then. But, otherwise, Amy gives a very excellent tutoring experience.

My child in Dumfries is aiming for a competitive Psychology course at a Scottish university. Can an online tutor really help?
Absolutely. This is where online tutoring is a huge advantage. We can connect your child with tutors who may be university lecturers or have specific experience helping students with their UCAS applications and personal statements for top courses at universities like Glasgow and Edinburgh. They can provide the advanced insight and challenge that isn't always available locally.
How can online tutoring complement the Psychology teaching at my child's comprehensive school in Dumfries?
We see tutoring as a powerful partnership with school. Whilst teachers do a fantastic job covering the curriculum for a whole class, a one-to-one tutor can go deeper into topics your child finds fascinating, provide extra support on areas they find tricky, and stretch them with concepts that might be beyond the standard syllabus, giving them an edge.
Is online tutoring as effective as meeting a tutor in person?
Yes, and for many families, it's even better. Online lessons use interactive whiteboards, screen sharing, and messaging, making them just as engaging as face-to-face. The main benefit is access; your child in Dumfries can connect with a top-rated Psychology specialist from anywhere in the UK, rather than being limited to who lives nearby. Plus, the convenience of learning from home is a huge bonus!
What happens if we don't click with the first Psychology tutor we try?
It's really important that your child feels comfortable and inspired by their tutor. We have a first lesson guarantee, so if it's not the right fit, just email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover your first session with a new tutor.
How are your Psychology tutors vetted?
We have a rigorous selection process because we believe your child deserves the best. Every tutor is background-checked, interviewed by a member of our team, and has their qualifications verified. We only accept 1 in 8 tutors who apply, ensuring you're choosing from a pool of highly qualified and passionate educators.
What technology do we need for an online lesson?
It's very simple. All you need is a laptop or computer with a webcam, a microphone, and a stable internet connection. Our online classroom is built into our website, so there's no complex software to download. It's designed to be secure, easy to use, and effective for learning.
Can we get help with specific topics like research methods or biopsychology?
Of course. That's the beauty of one-to-one tutoring. You can browse tutor profiles to find someone who specialises in the exact area of Psychology your child needs help with. The lessons will be completely tailored to their needs, whether it's mastering statistics or getting to grips with cognitive neuroscience.
How do we find the right tutor for my child?
You can use our search filters to narrow down tutors by subject, level, and availability. Reading their profiles and reviews from other parents is a great way to get a feel for their teaching style. You can also message tutors before booking to ask any specific questions you might have.
How much does online Psychology tutoring cost?
Prices vary depending on the tutor's experience and qualifications. Tutors set their own hourly rates, which are clearly displayed on their profiles. This allows you to find an excellent, experienced tutor who also fits within your family's budget.
How flexible is scheduling lessons?
Very flexible. Because our tutors are based across the UK, you'll find a wide range of available times, including evenings and weekends. You can schedule lessons around school, sports, and other family commitments, making it much easier to fit quality tutoring into a busy week.
How will I know if my child is making progress?
Your tutor will provide regular feedback on your child's progress. You can also message them through the platform at any time. The biggest sign, though, is often seeing your child's confidence grow – when they start talking about the subject with more excitement and feel less anxious about their exams.
Can we get help with specific topics like research methods or biopsychology?
Yes, we do! We have expert tutors across more than 300 subjects, from core academic subjects like Maths and English to languages, music, coding, and professional skills. Whatever your child is passionate about, or needs support with, we're here to help.
