Shannon was my AQA A-Level Philosophy tutor and honestly, words cannot describe how wonderful and beneficial she was to my achievements within this subject! I was really struggling with philosophy and she helped me increase my grade significantly so I could secure a place in Durham University. She created these incredibly helpful PowerPoint presentations which simplified complex concepts into simple, coherent explanations. Also, she provided an amazing 25 marker essay structure and explained how each criteria within the mark scheme could be obtained. Shannon helped revitalise my love for philosophy, which had dwindled a due to exams and stress. I initially felt reluctant to share my opinions within my class because I felt my knowledge on philosophy was not strong enough, but, with Shannon, I felt comfortable and confident to share my opinions, question philosophers and deeply explore topics. We have had many delightful and thorough philosophical conversations and debates. I am forever grateful she was philosophy tutor! Thank you Shannon! :)

Brilliant Philosophy tutors who you’ll really click with.
Our experienced tutors take the time to understand where each student needs to focus and their preferred way of learning. They make a measurable difference – 90% of all students improve by at least one grade.
My child is aiming for a grammar school like RGS or Wycombe High. Can Philosophy tutoring really help them stand out?
Absolutely. Whilst Philosophy isn't an 11+ subject, the skills it teaches – logical reasoning, critical analysis, and structured thinking – are fundamental to success in all academic areas. A tutor can help your child develop a sharp, analytical mind that will give them an edge in a competitive academic environment like High Wycombe's.
Are your tutors familiar with the academic expectations in High Wycombe's competitive school system?
Yes. Many of our tutors have extensive experience helping students who are aiming for top grades and entry into Russell Group universities. They understand the high standards required and can tailor their support to help your child meet and exceed the expectations of demanding A-Level courses.
Is online Philosophy tutoring as effective as meeting in person?
We find it's even more effective for many families. Online lessons use interactive whiteboards and screen sharing to explore complex ideas visually. Plus, your child can learn from the comfort of home in High Wycombe, connecting with a top Philosophy specialist from anywhere in the UK, rather than being limited to who is available locally.
What happens if my child doesn't click with their first Philosophy tutor?
It's so important that your child feels comfortable and understood. If the first session with a tutor isn't the right fit, just email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover the cost of your first lesson with a new tutor.
What qualifications do your Philosophy tutors have?
Our tutors are genuine subject experts. Many hold degrees in Philosophy from leading universities, with some having postgraduate qualifications and extensive teaching experience. We vet every tutor and accept only 1 in 8 applicants, so you can be sure your child is learning from the best.
How can a tutor help my child with their specific A-Level syllabus?
Our tutors can provide tailored support for all major exam boards, including AQA, OCR, and Edexcel. They can help your child get to grips with specific texts, understand key thinkers, and master the essay-writing techniques needed to achieve top marks.
How much do online Philosophy tutors cost?
The cost varies depending on the tutor's experience and qualifications. Tutors set their own rates, which you can see clearly on their profiles. This allows you to find an expert tutor who fits your budget, with prices starting from £15 per hour.
How will I know if my child is making progress?
Our tutors provide regular feedback on your child's development. You'll be able to see their confidence grow as they start to tackle difficult concepts, articulate their ideas more clearly, and see an improvement in their written work and grades.
What technology do we need for an online lesson?
It's very simple. All your child needs is a laptop or computer with a webcam, a microphone, and a stable internet connection. Our platform has a built-in video classroom, so there's no complex software to install.
How long are the tutoring sessions?
Sessions are typically one hour long, which is usually ideal for maintaining focus and covering a good amount of material. However, you can discuss different session lengths directly with your chosen tutor to find what works best for your child.
My child is interested in Philosophy but also needs help with their UCAS application. Can one tutor help with both?
Often, yes! Many of our Philosophy tutors have helped students with their personal statements, especially for related degrees like Law, PPE, or Humanities. You can check individual tutor profiles or use our search filters to find a tutor with specific experience in university applications.
How much do online Philosophy tutors cost?
We offer tutoring across more than 300 subjects! Whether your child needs help with core subjects like Maths and English, other A-Levels, or even wants to learn a new skill like coding or playing the guitar, we have expert tutors ready to help.
