Shannon was my AQA A-Level Philosophy tutor and honestly, words cannot describe how wonderful and beneficial she was to my achievements within this subject! I was really struggling with philosophy and she helped me increase my grade significantly so I could secure a place in Durham University. She created these incredibly helpful PowerPoint presentations which simplified complex concepts into simple, coherent explanations. Also, she provided an amazing 25 marker essay structure and explained how each criteria within the mark scheme could be obtained. Shannon helped revitalise my love for philosophy, which had dwindled a due to exams and stress. I initially felt reluctant to share my opinions within my class because I felt my knowledge on philosophy was not strong enough, but, with Shannon, I felt comfortable and confident to share my opinions, question philosophers and deeply explore topics. We have had many delightful and thorough philosophical conversations and debates. I am forever grateful she was philosophy tutor! Thank you Shannon! :)

Ms. M has been absolutely fantastic. She breaks down complex topics into clear, manageable parts, making even the most challenging content much more approachable. Her ability to tie everything together across the course has really helped me deepen my understanding and develop my evaluative skills. Each session is structured and insightful, and she always offers detailed explanations that go beyond surface-level learning. I’ve come away from every lesson feeling more confident and prepared. Highly recommend!

Brilliant Philosophy tutors who you’ll really click with.
Our experienced tutors take the time to understand where each student needs to focus and their preferred way of learning. They make a measurable difference – 90% of all students improve by at least one grade.
My child is aiming for Cardiff Sixth Form College. Can a Philosophy tutor help them develop the analytical skills needed to stand out?
Absolutely. Our tutors specialise in building the kind of critical thinking and articulate reasoning that top institutions look for. They can work with your child on essay structuring, debate techniques, and understanding complex texts, going beyond the curriculum to prepare them for a competitive academic environment.
With Cardiff University on our doorstep, we're worried about the step-up to degree-level thinking. How does tutoring address this?
This is a common concern, and a great place for a tutor to help. They can introduce your child to university-style analysis, helping them engage with primary texts, formulate independent arguments, and think critically about sources – skills that are crucial for a successful transition from A-Level to a Russell Group university.
Is online tutoring really as effective as meeting someone in person?
We find it's even more effective for many families. Online lessons use interactive whiteboards and document collaboration, making sessions incredibly engaging. Plus, it gives your child in Cardiff access to a much wider pool of top-tier tutors from across the UK, not just those who happen to live nearby. It's focused, convenient, and highly effective.
What happens if we don't click with the first Philosophy tutor we try?
Finding the right personality match is essential, and we want you to be completely happy. If the first lesson isn't a perfect fit, just email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk, and we will cover the cost of your first session with a new tutor.
My child is interested in Philosophy but also needs help with their English essay writing. Can we find a tutor for both?
Yes, many of our tutors have expertise across multiple humanities subjects. When you search, you can look for tutors who list both Philosophy and English. This can be a great way to provide holistic support, as the skills of critical analysis and strong writing are linked.
How do you ensure tutors are qualified and safe?
We take this very seriously. Only 1 in 8 tutors who apply are accepted onto our platform. Every tutor is interviewed, has their qualifications checked, and undergoes a DBS background check to ensure they are the best of the best.
How will I know if my child is making progress?
Our tutors provide regular feedback to keep you in the loop. You'll see progress through your child's growing confidence, their improved arguments in essays, and their ability to articulate complex ideas more clearly. Many parents tell us the first sign is their child actually starting to enjoy the subject!
How much do online Philosophy tutors cost?
Prices vary depending on the tutor's experience and qualifications, and you can see each tutor's hourly rate clearly on their profile. There are no hidden fees or long-term contracts, so you can find someone brilliant who fits your budget.
What equipment do we need for an online session?
It's simple! All you need is a laptop or computer, a stable internet connection, and a webcam with a microphone. Our online classroom is browser-based, so there's no complicated software to install.
Do you offer Philosophy tutoring for different levels, like the IB programme?
Yes. Our tutors cover a wide range of levels, from GCSE and A-Level to the International Baccalaureate (IB) and university admissions support, including help with personal statements and interview practice. You can filter your search to find a tutor with the specific experience you need.
My child has a lot of extracurriculars. How flexible is scheduling?
That's one of the main benefits of online tutoring. Tutors manage their own schedules, and you can see their availability on their profiles. It's easy to find and book sessions that fit around sports, clubs, and family commitments.
How will I know if my child is making progress?
Definitely. A great tutor can reignite that spark by connecting philosophical concepts to your child's own interests, whether that's film, politics, or science. By making the subject relevant and engaging, they can transform it from a chore into a fascinating exploration.
