Shannon was my AQA A-Level Philosophy tutor and honestly, words cannot describe how wonderful and beneficial she was to my achievements within this subject! I was really struggling with philosophy and she helped me increase my grade significantly so I could secure a place in Durham University. She created these incredibly helpful PowerPoint presentations which simplified complex concepts into simple, coherent explanations. Also, she provided an amazing 25 marker essay structure and explained how each criteria within the mark scheme could be obtained. Shannon helped revitalise my love for philosophy, which had dwindled a due to exams and stress. I initially felt reluctant to share my opinions within my class because I felt my knowledge on philosophy was not strong enough, but, with Shannon, I felt comfortable and confident to share my opinions, question philosophers and deeply explore topics. We have had many delightful and thorough philosophical conversations and debates. I am forever grateful she was philosophy tutor! Thank you Shannon! :)

Brilliant Philosophy tutors who you’ll really click with.
Our experienced tutors take the time to understand where each student needs to focus and their preferred way of learning. They make a measurable difference – 90% of all students improve by at least one grade.
My child is at Hills Road / The Perse and the workload is intense. How can a tutor help?
We completely understand. The pace at Cambridge's top colleges is demanding. A tutor acts as a personal academic guide, helping your child manage their workload, deepen their understanding of complex topics outside the classroom's constraints, and refine their essay and exam technique so they can handle the pressure with confidence.
How can a tutor help my child's Philosophy application to Cambridge University stand out?
A strong application requires more than just top grades; it needs to show genuine intellectual curiosity. Our tutors, many of whom are university-level academics, can help your child explore topics beyond the A-Level syllabus, prepare for the unique demands of the admissions interview, and articulate their passion for the subject in their personal statement.
Is online tutoring as effective for a discussion-based subject like Philosophy?
Absolutely. Our online classroom is designed for deep conversation. Tutors use the interactive whiteboard to map out logical arguments, analyse texts together in real-time, and share resources instantly. It creates a focused, one-to-one environment that encourages thoughtful debate and clear communication, which is perfect for Philosophy.
Can an online tutor from elsewhere in the UK really understand the academic expectations in Cambridge?
Yes. Our tutors are experts in their fields and the UK curriculum, including all major exam boards like AQA and OCR. Many have experience preparing students for entry into top universities like Cambridge and Oxford. They understand the high standards required and can provide the targeted support needed to meet them, regardless of their physical location.
What if my child doesn't click with their first Philosophy tutor?
Finding the right personality match is crucial, and we want you both to feel comfortable. That's why we have our first lesson guarantee. If it isn't a perfect fit, just email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover the cost of your first session with a new tutor.
How are your tutors vetted?
We're incredibly selective because your child deserves the best. Only 1 in 8 tutors who apply make it onto our platform. Every tutor undergoes a rigorous selection process, including an interview and a background check, ensuring they are not only subject matter experts but also skilled and passionate teachers.
My child also needs help with A-Level Maths. Can we find a tutor for that too?
Yes, of course. We have expert tutors across more than 300 subjects, from core academics like Maths and English to music, coding, and languages. You can find specialist support for all your child's learning needs right here on the platform.
How much does online Philosophy tutoring cost for a student in Cambridge?
Our tutors set their own rates, which you can see clearly on their profiles. Prices vary based on experience and level of study (e.g., GCSE, A-Level, university). This choice allows you to find an excellent, experienced tutor whose fee fits your family's budget.
How flexible is scheduling? My child has a lot of extracurriculars.
That's one of the biggest benefits of online tutoring. You're not restricted by geography or travel time. You can arrange sessions for evenings, weekends, or whenever suits your family's busy schedule. You can find a tutor who works for you.
What technology do we need for online lessons?
It's very simple. All you need is a laptop or computer with a webcam, a microphone, and a stable internet connection. Our custom-built online classroom runs directly in your web browser, so there's no complicated software to install.
Can a tutor help with specific A-Level topics like Epistemology or Metaphysics?
Definitely. Many of our tutors are A-Level specialists and you can see their areas of expertise on their profiles. You can find someone who is brilliant at breaking down exactly those tricky, abstract topics your child finds most challenging.
My child also needs help with A-Level Maths. Can we find a tutor for that too?
Progress looks different for every child. Some parents notice a boost in confidence and a more positive attitude after just one or two sessions. For others, it's seeing that first essay grade come back higher than expected. The consistent, one-to-one support is designed to build momentum from the very first lesson.
