Maths s to grade 9
I recently took early retirement to do something new - online tutoring and delivering Science to local Primary schools with my barn owl, kestrel and peregrine falcon. I've taught in a mainstream school for almost 20 years and then went to work for 5 years in a Pupil Referral Unit, working mostly with students with medical conditions but also with those who had been permanently excluded from school. These lessons were conducted on a small group basis or one to one, sometimes at a student's own home or even using a weird robot over the internet! My lessons are flexible, likely to run off a little...

Experienced and enthusiastic KS3 and GCSE Maths Tutor
I am an enthusiastic Maths tutor with many years of experience in teaching KS3, GCSE and Functional Skills. I work on building a pupil's confidence which significantly enhances their ability to learn. This in turn provides a solid base for good progression through the syllabus to reach exam standard. My extensive Maths-teaching experience in...
Our son had a 15-minute introductory session with Callum focusing specifically on Transformations in Coordinate Geometry. We were genuinely impressed.
Callum explained rotations, reflections and translations in a clear, logical way, checked our son’s reasoning, and quickly identified the gaps in his understanding.
We’re now booking full sessions and feel confident that we’ve chosen a truly excellent maths tutor.

Peter J
My son has been having regular weekly A-level maths lessons with Peter for a couple of months now and he's absolutely brilliant. My son says he's the best tutor he's had - he's super positive and encouraging, explains things really clearly and just makes things make sense that my son had found tricky in his college maths classes. Peter is always really helpful if we need to change the day or time of a session and responds to messages promptly. My son is already feeling much more confident about his maths exams and looks forwards to his sessions with Peter. Would definitely recommend!

Brilliant Maths tutors who you’ll really click with.
Our experienced tutors take the time to understand where each student needs to focus and their preferred way of learning. They make a measurable difference – 90% of all students improve by at least one grade.
We're aiming for a place at a Plymouth grammar school like Devonport High. Can a tutor help with 11+ Maths preparation?
Absolutely. Many of our tutors specialise in entrance exams, including the 11+. They can help your child build a strong understanding of the Maths curriculum, develop problem-solving skills, and practise exam techniques to help them feel confident and prepared.
My child hopes to study at the University of Plymouth or Exeter. How can a Maths tutor support their A-Level journey?
A-Level Maths can be a big step up. A dedicated tutor can provide one-to-one support to master complex topics, prepare for exams, and achieve the high grades often needed for competitive university courses, including those at Plymouth and Exeter.
What if my child doesn't click with their first tutor?
We know that the right fit is crucial for building confidence. That's why we have our First Lesson Guarantee. If for any reason you feel the first tutor isn't the perfect match for your child, just email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover the cost of your first session with a new tutor.
Is tutoring just for school subjects like Maths, or can you help with other skills?
We offer tutoring for a huge range of interests! While we're here to help with core subjects from the 11+ right up to degree level, your child can also learn practical skills like coding or a musical instrument like the guitar. It's all about supporting their learning journey, whatever that may be.
How do I choose the best Maths tutor for my child?
You can read detailed tutor profiles, watch their introductory videos, and check reviews from other parents. We recommend messaging a few tutors to discuss your child's specific needs before booking. It's about finding someone your child will feel comfortable learning with.
How much does online Maths tutoring cost?
Our tutors set their own rates, so prices vary depending on their experience and qualifications. You can easily filter tutors by price on our platform to find someone who fits your budget, with no hidden fees or contracts.
How do the online lessons actually work?
Lessons take place in our purpose-built online classroom. It features a two-way video call, an interactive whiteboard for working through problems together, and a chat function. All your child needs is a computer or tablet and a stable internet connection.
My child has really lost their confidence with Maths. Can a tutor help with that?
Yes, this is one of the most important things a tutor can do. A great tutor creates a safe, encouraging space where your child can ask questions without feeling embarrassed. By going at their pace and celebrating small wins, they can rebuild your child's self-belief and help them see they are capable.
Are all the tutors background-checked?
Yes, your child's safety is our top priority. All our tutors must have a valid DBS check (or equivalent) and we verify their ID and references. We're very selective, and only 1 in 8 tutors who apply are accepted onto our platform.
How often should my child have a lesson?
Most families find that a one-hour lesson once a week works best for consistent progress. However, it's completely flexible. You can arrange a schedule that works for your child and their tutor, whether that's more frequent sessions during exam season or fortnightly top-ups.
Can I see how my child is getting on?
Of course. We encourage open communication. You can message the tutor at any time, and they will provide regular feedback on your child's progress, highlighting areas where they are improving and what they'll be focusing on next.
What levels of Maths do you cover?
We have expert tutors for all stages of your child's education, from building core numeracy skills at Primary and 11+ level, through to tackling complex topics at GCSE, A-Level, and even university degree level.
