Bonjour!:)I am a native French speaker and a fully qualified teacher with 26 years experience of teaching in schools and privately. I teach the right accent: this is part of how you can become a confident speaker and an efficient listener.I also explain how verbs and grammar work and help you practice with relevant, interesting resources. It's easier to learn if you understand the rules and the tricks. You then become more confident and try more and memorize better.I use various teaching methods according to each...

My particular course gave me the opportunity to work in both France and Switzerland so I got to experience how people really work and live in both these places.I also travelled widely during my placements to experience the culture and understand the identity of the locals. My family and I have now returned to the UKafter more than 12 years of living and working in Paris. In fact, both my children were born in Paris. Carmen G
During my lessons with Carmen, she was very patient with me when I made errors and mistakes. She didn't judge or reprimand me at all, and instead made me feel confident and comfortable with speaking Spanish. As I am studying the A-Level Spanish course, she would give me extra material to study which relates to the exam topics, and give me practice in speaking, writing and listening. It was a lovely experience and I hope to book her again.

Carol G
Carol is brilliant! She clearly knows her subject inside out and tailors the lessons and homework excellently, too, often adapting ‘on the go’ -as stuff comes up, that leads to interesting tangents of related learning on the subject. She is really friendly …. and interesting, too, with fascinating life experiences, like living in Ibiza for years with her kids when younger. Highly recommended by me? Yes indeed! Look no further, you’ve found a brilliant tutor who provides incredibly good value one to one teaching!

We're on the Isle of Wight. How does online tutoring provide the real-world language practice my child needs?
This is a common concern for parents, and it's where online tutoring really helps. One-to-one sessions provide a safe, focused environment for your child to practise speaking with an expert. This regular conversational practice is key to building fluency and confidence, bringing the language to life in a way that goes beyond the textbook.
My child is worried their language skills won't be strong enough for mainland universities. Can a tutor help?
Absolutely. A tutor can help your child build the specific skills and confidence needed for a strong UCAS application. They can work on everything from essay writing and grammar to preparing for oral exams, ensuring your child feels ready to take that next step.
How do I choose the right Languages tutor for my child?
It's all about finding the right fit for your child's personality and learning style. You can read tutor profiles, watch their introductory videos, and check reviews from other parents. We recommend messaging a few tutors to discuss your child's goals before booking a session.
How much do online Languages tutors cost?
Our tutors set their own hourly rates, which you can see clearly on their profiles. Prices vary based on the tutor's experience and the level of study, so you can find an experienced, affordable tutor who fits your family's budget.
What if my child doesn't click with their first tutor?
We know that the right tutor-student relationship is key to success. That's why we have our first lesson guarantee. If you don't get on with your tutor, email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover your first session with a new tutor.
Are the tutors' backgrounds checked?
Yes, your child's safety is our top priority. All our tutors are background-checked and we interview every single one. We only accept 1 in 8 tutors who apply, so you can have complete peace of mind.
How can a tutor help my child with their language GCSEs or A-Levels?
A tutor can provide focused support on the areas your child finds most challenging. For GCSEs, this could be mastering key vocabulary, and for A-Levels, it might be analysing literature or practising complex grammar. 90% of our students improve by at least one grade.
What happens in a typical online language lesson?
Lessons take place in our online classroom, which features an interactive whiteboard, video chat, and document sharing. A tutor might use it to review homework, practise conversation, or work through tricky grammar points, tailoring the session to your child's needs.
How often should my child have a lesson?
Most families find that one session a week works well, as it creates a consistent routine. However, the schedule is completely flexible. You might want more lessons in the run-up to an exam, or fewer during school holidays. It's entirely up to you.
Is this just for school subjects, or can my child learn other skills?
While we help thousands of students with academic subjects like French, Spanish, and German, we also have tutors for a huge range of other skills. Your child could learn anything from Japanese and Mandarin to coding or playing the guitar.
How can a tutor help my child build confidence in speaking?
One-to-one lessons provide a safe and encouraging space for your child to practise speaking without the fear of making mistakes in front of a whole class. This regular, supportive practice with an expert is one of the best ways to build real confidence.
How can a tutor help my child with their language GCSEs or A-Levels?
Our tutors provide regular feedback to keep you updated on your child's progress. You can also message your tutor at any time to discuss how things are going. Often, the first sign of progress is your child feeling more positive and confident about the subject.
