Rory F
Rory is tutoring my son for his A level History and has been superb in his support from the get go. Rory has helped him understand the essay writing structure and technique distinctions between GCSE and A level. Rory's lessons are well planned and his advice and guidance tailored to detailed understanding of topic content and maximising the knowledge gleaned to various exam questions e.g. the difference between just describing and actual argument / evidence evaluation. Rory is very approachable and provides feedback to parents on how well lessons have progressed and, importantly, where the biggest opportunities are for the student ahead of their set homework. I would strongly recommend Rory as a tutor.

Brilliant History tutors who you’ll really click with.
Our experienced tutors take the time to understand where each student needs to focus and their preferred way of learning. They make a measurable difference – 90% of all students improve by at least one grade.
Can an online tutor help my child with their History application for the University of Leicester?
Absolutely. Our tutors can provide invaluable support. They can help your child deepen their subject knowledge, practise articulating complex ideas, and develop the source analysis skills that make an application stand out. It’s about building the confidence and academic rigour that top universities like Leicester are looking for.
My child is aiming for a competitive school like Leicester Grammar. Can tutoring help?
Yes. A tutor can work with your child to strengthen their core historical knowledge and, crucially, develop the analytical and essay-writing techniques required. They can build a strong foundation that helps your child feel prepared and confident when facing entrance assessments or more challenging coursework.
How does online tutoring for students in Leicester actually work?
It's simple and effective. All lessons take place via video call in our purpose-built online classroom, which has features like an interactive whiteboard. Your child can learn from home in Leicester with a top UK tutor, without any travel. All you need is a laptop or tablet and a stable internet connection.
Is online tutoring as effective as in-person?
Many parents find it's even more effective. Online tutoring gives your child in Leicester access to a much wider pool of specialist tutors from across the UK, not just whoever is local. This, combined with the convenience of learning from home, makes it a powerful and flexible way to learn.
What happens if we don't click with the first tutor?
We know the right fit is crucial. If the first session with a new tutor isn't quite right, just email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk. We will happily cover the cost of your first lesson with an alternative tutor to ensure you find the perfect match.
How much do online History tutors cost?
Our tutors set their own rates, typically starting from £15 per hour. Prices vary based on the tutor's experience and the level of study (e.g., GCSE, A-Level). You can easily filter by price on our website to find a brilliant tutor who fits your budget.
How do you vet your tutors?
We're very selective. Only 1 in 8 applicants are successful. Every tutor is interviewed by our team, has their qualifications checked, and must pass a background check. We ensure they are not only subject experts but also passionate and skilled communicators.
Can my child get help with a specific part of the History curriculum, like their coursework?
Yes, completely. Our tutors can provide focused support exactly where it's needed most, whether that's planning an essay, analysing historical sources for coursework, or preparing for a specific exam topic. Lessons are entirely tailored to your child's individual needs.
My child finds History boring. Can a tutor change that?
We see it happen all the time! A great tutor can bring history to life, connecting events from the past to your child's own world. By finding topics that spark their interest and making lessons interactive, they can transform the subject from a list of dates into a fascinating story.
My child is studying Politics as well as History. Can you help with that too?
We can. We have expert tutors across more than 300 subjects, including Politics, Sociology, and Economics, which often complement History studies. You can find a specialist tutor to support your child in all their academic pursuits.
Can a tutor help connect my child's studies to Leicester's local history?
While our tutors are based across the UK, many are skilled at helping students connect broader themes to their local context. For example, they could guide your child in researching how national events like the Industrial Revolution or the English Civil War played out in the Leicester area, making history feel more immediate and relevant.
How do you vet your tutors?
It's very straightforward. Your child will need a computer, laptop, or tablet with a webcam and microphone, along with a reliable internet connection. That’s all it takes to connect with their tutor in our online classroom.
