Velocity and turbulence distributions in wall subchannels of a rod bundle in three axial planes immediately downstream of a spacer grid
Abstract
Mean velocity, wall shear stresses, and turbulence were measured in 2 wall subchannels (P/D=1.223; W/D=1.183) of a rod bundle of 4 parallel rods arranged in a rectangular channel for 3 axial planes. A spacer grid of the SNRtype was inserted in the rod bundle at ratios of distance between the spacer grid and the measuring plane and the hydraulic diameter of L/Dh=0.96, 0.49, and 0.25, respectively. The Reynolds number was Re=155,000. The results show that the distributions of the velocity and of the turbulence are completed governed by the spacer grid. The effects of the spacer grid increase with decreasing distance from the spacer grid.
