asked questions

We're aiming for a competitive sixth form in the Bromley/Bexley area. Can a tutor help my child get the GCSE grades they need?

Absolutely. Many of our tutors are experienced in helping students secure the grades needed for competitive sixth forms. They can focus on the specific GCSE French syllabus, strengthening weak areas and building exam technique to help your child achieve their best possible result. We know a strong set of GCSEs is vital, and our data shows we can help improve them by up to 2 grades.

My child is struggling with the jump to GCSE French. Are there tutors familiar with the pressures students in South-East London face?

Yes. While our tutors are online and based across the UK, many have experience supporting students in highly competitive areas like South-East London. They understand the pressure to perform and can create a supportive, encouraging environment where your child can ask questions freely and build confidence away from the classroom.

What if we don't click with the first French tutor?

We know that the right fit is crucial for your child's success. That’s why we have our First Lesson Guarantee. If you don't get on with your first tutor for any reason, just email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover the cost of your first session with a new tutor.

How do I choose the right French tutor for my child?

You can read detailed tutor profiles, watch their introductory videos, and read reviews from other parents. You can also message tutors before booking to discuss your child's specific needs. It's all about finding the person whose teaching style and personality will be the best match for your child.

How much does online French tutoring cost?

Prices vary depending on the tutor's experience and qualifications, but you can find a tutor to suit your budget. You can see each tutor's price clearly on their profile, and there are no hidden fees or contracts.

Can a tutor help my child with their confidence, not just their grades?

Definitely. This is one of the biggest benefits of one-to-one tutoring. A great tutor creates a safe space for your child to ask questions they might be afraid to ask in class. This personalised attention often leads to 'lightbulb moments' that really boost their self-esteem and enthusiasm for a subject.

Are all the tutors background-checked?

Yes, your child's safety is our top priority. Every tutor on our platform has passed an ID check and has a valid DBS background check. We also interview every tutor and only accept 1 in every 8 who apply, ensuring your child is learning from the best.

How does online tutoring actually work?

It's simple! All lessons take place in our purpose-built online classroom. It has a video chat, an interactive whiteboard, and a space to share documents. Your child just needs a computer or tablet with a microphone, a camera, and a stable internet connection.

Do you only offer academic subjects, or could my child learn something like guitar or coding?

We offer tutoring in over 300 subjects! While we cover all core academic subjects from the 11+ to university level, your child can also learn practical skills like coding, learn to play the guitar, or even pick up a new language for fun.

How many lessons will my child need to see an improvement?

This is different for every child. Some students need a few sessions to prepare for an exam, while others benefit from weekly lessons throughout the school year. The great thing is that it's completely flexible. You can discuss your child's goals with the tutor to create a plan that works for them.

How long does a typical tutoring session last?

The standard lesson length is one hour, which we find is most effective for maintaining focus and making progress. However, you can discuss different lesson lengths directly with your chosen tutor to find what works best for your child.

Are all the tutors background-checked?

We have a simple 12-hour cancellation policy. As long as you give your tutor at least 12 hours' notice, you can cancel or reschedule a lesson for free. This gives you the flexibility you need to manage a busy family schedule.
