David J
Experienced French Tutor
When it comes to History, I have always loved the subject, leading me to secure my place at the University of Leeds and to follow through my degree and gain a 2:1. While doing so, I had a fantastic time living in Leeds, which is why I came back to live here. My focus was on the British Empire, but having studied History all the way through school and university, my experience with the subject is very broad. For example I studied Britain from 1880-1980 and Nazi Germany at A Level, and American foreign policy and race relations and the Russian Revolution at GCSE. History is one of the most important...

Genevieve M
Genevieve is a fantastic tutor. She is extremely engaging to learn from, explaining everything very patiently and clearly, and she has a really good sense of humour. I’m particularly impressed by the effort she puts in to prepare extra learning materials for me between classes based on the specifics of what I struggled with in the previous lesson. I really didn’t expect that level of additional work from her, it’s so thoughtful and helpful. I intend to be learning French up to conversational fluency so I need many, many hours of teaching, and I am therefore very glad I chose Genevieve to deliver them as she makes the time fly by.

Brilliant French tutors who you’ll really click with.
Our experienced tutors take the time to understand where each student needs to focus and their preferred way of learning. They make a measurable difference – 90% of all students improve by at least one grade.
My child is aiming for a competitive course at the University of Liverpool. Can a tutor help with this?
Absolutely. Many of our tutors are experienced in helping students strengthen their academic profiles for applications to Russell Group universities. They can focus on achieving the high GCSE and A-Level grades needed and help your child articulate their passion for French in their personal statement.
With the high standards of schools like The Blue Coat School, can a tutor help my child keep up and excel in French?
Yes, definitely. Our tutors are brilliant at tailoring sessions to match the pace and high expectations of academically selective schools. They can provide targeted support to reinforce what's being taught in class, fill any knowledge gaps, and challenge your child to help them stay ahead.
How do I choose the right French tutor for my child?
You can read detailed tutor profiles, watch introductory videos, and check ratings and reviews from other parents. We recommend looking for a tutor who has specific experience with your child's level, such as GCSE French, and whose teaching style seems like a good match for your child's personality.
What if my child doesn't click with their first tutor?
We understand that the right fit is crucial. That's why we have our First Lesson Guarantee. If you don't get on with your tutor for any reason, just email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover your first session with a new tutor.
How much does a French tutor cost?
Our tutors set their own rates, so prices vary depending on their experience and qualifications. You can see the price per hour clearly on each tutor's profile, allowing you to find an expert who fits your budget. There are no hidden fees or long-term commitments.
How does online tutoring actually work?
It's simple! All lessons take place in our online classroom, which features a video chat, an interactive whiteboard, and a space to share documents. All your child needs is a computer with a webcam and a stable internet connection. It's a convenient and effective way to learn from home.
How can a tutor help my child with their GCSE French exam specifically?
Our tutors are experts in the GCSE French curriculum. They can help your child break down exam questions, refine their writing skills, master complex grammar, and build confidence for the speaking and listening components. They often use past papers to ensure your child is fully prepared for what to expect.
My child has lost all confidence in French. How can a tutor help?
Confidence is key to learning. A one-to-one tutor provides a safe, encouraging space where your child can ask questions without feeling embarrassed. By celebrating small wins and explaining concepts in a way that clicks, tutors help rebuild that self-belief, which often has a huge impact on their results.
Are all your tutors background-checked?
Yes, your child's safety is our top priority. Every single one of our tutors undergoes a thorough background check before they can teach on our platform. We are very selective, accepting only 1 in 8 tutors who apply, so you can be sure your child is in safe, expert hands.
How long will it be before we see an improvement in my child's grades?
Every child learns at their own pace, but our personalised approach is designed to make an impact quickly. Many parents tell us they see a boost in their child's confidence after just a few sessions. In fact, 90% of our students improve their academic results by at least one grade.
What happens in a typical one-hour French lesson?
A lesson is tailored to your child's needs. It might start with a quick review of the last session, then move onto tackling a specific area they find tricky, like the subjunctive mood. The tutor might use the interactive whiteboard to work through examples, practice conversational phrases, or review a piece of writing together.
How can a tutor help my child with their GCSE French exam specifically?
We offer a huge range of subjects beyond the school curriculum! While we have experts in everything from Maths to French, you can also find brilliant tutors for hobbies and skills like learning guitar, coding, piano, and much more.
