Ellen R
Enthusiastic and engaging French Tutor
I have always had an interest in languages, travelling and exploring new cultures. This ultimately led me to studying French and International Relations at university. Spending a year abroad teaching English in southwest France, was an invaluable experience and a real highlight of my degree. The year not only developed my language skills but deepened my knowledge of French culture, something I always try to pass on to my students and incorporate into my lessons. For me, language learning is not only about grammar and vocabulary, culture also has an important part to play. After completing my degree,...

Genevieve M
Genevieve is a fantastic tutor. She is extremely engaging to learn from, explaining everything very patiently and clearly, and she has a really good sense of humour. I’m particularly impressed by the effort she puts in to prepare extra learning materials for me between classes based on the specifics of what I struggled with in the previous lesson. I really didn’t expect that level of additional work from her, it’s so thoughtful and helpful. I intend to be learning French up to conversational fluency so I need many, many hours of teaching, and I am therefore very glad I chose Genevieve to deliver them as she makes the time fly by.

Brilliant French tutors who you’ll really click with.
Our experienced tutors take the time to understand where each student needs to focus and their preferred way of learning. They make a measurable difference – 90% of all students improve by at least one grade.
My child hopes to study at the University of Aberdeen. Can a tutor help them achieve the Highers grades they need in French?
Absolutely. Many of our tutors are experienced in helping students with the Scottish Highers curriculum. They can provide targeted support to help your child master the specific content and exam techniques needed to secure the grades required for competitive university courses.
With the high standards at schools like Cults Academy, can a tutor really make a difference to my child's final French grade?
Yes, they can. While school teachers do a fantastic job, a one-to-one tutor provides personalised attention that isn't possible in a classroom. They can focus on your child's specific weak spots, building their confidence and skills in a way that translates into better grades. In fact, 90% of our students improve by at least one grade.
How do I choose the right French tutor for my child?
It's easy to find the perfect match on Tutorful. You can read detailed tutor profiles, watch introductory videos, and check reviews from other parents. We recommend messaging a few tutors to discuss your child's specific goals before booking your first session to ensure you find someone you're both comfortable with.
What if my child doesn't click with their first French tutor?
We know that the right fit is crucial for learning. That's why we have our first lesson guarantee. If you don't get on with your tutor for any reason, email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover your first session with a new tutor.
How do online French lessons work?
Our online lessons take place in a purpose-built online classroom with video chat, an interactive whiteboard, and document sharing. It's a simple and effective way for your child to learn from the comfort of home, with all the tools they need for an engaging lesson.
How much do online French tutors cost?
Our tutors set their own rates, so prices can vary based on their experience and qualifications. You can easily filter tutors by price on our search page to find an expert who fits your family's budget.
Are all the tutors background-checked?
Yes, your child's safety is our top priority. We interview every single tutor and carry out thorough background checks. We're very selective and only accept 1 in 8 tutors who apply, so you can be sure your child is in safe, expert hands.
How can a tutor help my child feel more confident in French?
Confidence often comes from understanding. In a one-to-one setting, your child has a safe space to ask questions without feeling embarrassed. As their tutor helps them overcome challenges, from tricky grammar to speaking practice, your child's self-belief and enjoyment of the subject will grow.
How quickly can my child start their lessons?
You can get started very quickly. Many of our tutors respond to messages within a few hours. Once you've found a tutor you like, you can message them to arrange your first session at a time that works for you both.
Is tutoring only for academic subjects like French, or can my child learn other skills?
While we have fantastic tutors for academic subjects, we also offer support in a wide range of other areas. Whether your child wants to learn a musical instrument like the guitar, get into coding with Python, or develop a new hobby, you can find an expert tutor to help them.
How many lessons will my child need to see an improvement?
This varies for each student, but consistency is key. Many parents find that weekly lessons provide the regular support needed to build momentum and see real progress. Your tutor can discuss a learning plan with you after the first session.
Are all the tutors background-checked?
We focus on finding the perfect tutor for your child. With over 4,100 reviews giving us a 4.6-star rating, parents trust us to provide high-quality, safe, and effective one-to-one learning. We're here to help you and your child every step of the way.
