Roxy has been an absolutely wonderful tutor. She is warm, very engaging, and clearly highly competent. Our son genuinely loved his lessons with her and always looked forward to them, which says a lot. We could see his confidence grow, and his writing abilities improved noticeably over a short period of time. Roxy has a fantastic way of connecting with children while still challenging them and helping them make real progress. We are incredibly grateful for her support and would highly recommend her to any parent.

Matthew has been amazing with my son is building his confidence in his KS3 English & Creative Writing by skills. My son has ASD/PDA and is currently in home education, so I needed a patient and understanding tutor, who could also encourage my son and help him develop his existing writing skills / text. Feedback from my son is that Matthew is really knowledgable and is great at moving him beyond his comfort zone!

Ifa M
Life changing experience!
I would like to express my appreciation for Ifa’s exceptional teaching skills in helping my son learn English. Ifa brings a wonderful combination of fun, knowledge, and experience to every lesson, making the learning process both enjoyable and highly effective. She engages with my son attentively throughout the entire session, ensuring that he remains focused and motivated without even realising how much he’s learning.
What truly stands out is Ifa’s ability to explain complex concepts in a way that my son immediately grasps. No other teacher has been able to reach him as clearly as Ifa has, and I was genuinely impressed by how quickly he picked up many ideas he had previously struggled with.
Not only has my son made tremendous progress, but I’ve also learned from Ifa. She has shown me the best ways to support my son’s learning journey, tailored specifically to his individual needs. Her guidance has been invaluable, and I’m grateful for the positive impact she’s had on both of us.
Thank you, Ifa!

Can a writing tutor help my child with the demanding essay requirements for competitive schools in Highbury?
Absolutely. Many parents in Highbury seek support for their children to excel in academic writing, especially for entrance exams or achieving top grades for highly sought-after local comprehensives and independent schools. Our tutors can help your child develop sophisticated essay writing skills, critical analysis, and structured arguments, giving them the confidence to meet these high standards.
How can a writing tutor help my child with university applications, especially for top London universities like UCL or LSE?
A writing tutor can be invaluable for university applications. They can guide your child through the process of crafting a compelling personal statement, helping them articulate their passions, achievements, and future ambitions in a way that truly stands out to admissions tutors at universities like UCL, LSE, and others. This one-to-one support ensures their statement is polished, personal, and impactful.
Can a writing tutor help with more than just school essays?
Yes, definitely! While many parents seek help for academic essays (GCSE, A-Level, degree), our writing tutors can also support a range of other skills. This could include creative writing, improving general communication for presentations, or even developing specific writing styles for personal projects or hobbies. It's all about building versatile writing confidence.
What if my child doesn't get along with their writing tutor?
We want you and your child to feel completely comfortable. If you don't get on with your tutor, email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover your first session with a new tutor. We're here to help you find the perfect match.
How do I choose the best online writing tutor for my child?
You can browse our expert tutors' profiles, read their bios, check their qualifications, and see reviews from other parents. We also encourage you to message tutors directly to discuss your child's specific writing needs before booking. Our search filters make it easy to find tutors specialising in GCSE, A-Level, creative writing, or specific subjects like English Literature.
How much does online writing tutoring typically cost?
Tutor rates vary depending on their experience and specialism, but you can see each tutor's hourly rate clearly on their profile. There are no hidden fees, and you only pay for the lessons your child takes. This transparency allows you to find a tutor that fits your budget.
How can an online writing tutor help my child build confidence?
One-to-one attention in a supportive environment makes a huge difference. Tutors provide constructive feedback, celebrate small wins, and break down complex writing tasks into manageable steps. This builds a child's belief in their own abilities, helping them feel more confident tackling essays, exams, and personal statements.
What makes Tutorful's writing tutors stand out?
Our tutors are experts in their field, and we're very selective – only accepting 1 in 8 applicants. Each lesson is tailored to your child. They might work on essay planning, analysing texts, improving grammar and punctuation, or developing a strong writing voice. Tutors use our interactive online classroom with a virtual whiteboard and document sharing to make learning engaging and effective, just like being in the same room.
How quickly can I expect to see improvements in my child's writing?
While every child is different, many parents notice improvements in confidence and skill within just a few sessions. Consistent, personalised support helps children grasp concepts faster and apply new techniques effectively. Our stats show 90% of students improve by at least one grade, often quicker than expected.
Are online writing lessons as effective as in-person tutoring?
