Eleanor B
Great first 'getting to know' lesson. Ellie helped Monty warm to the idea of tutoring by tapping nicely into his interests (he said afterwards that he really liked her) . He is positive about having another session next week. It was good that they could discuss his current school book; I think this is going to help him.

Hannah B
Within 5 minutes of specking to Hannah, I knew she was going to be my son’s tutor. She’s personable, passionate and knows her industry inside out. We’ve only had 2 lessons, but I can see the confidence and enjoyment on my son’s face as he’s learning. My son said after his 2nd lesson, ‘Hannah is so calm and I’m really enjoying tutoring’. We are actually so blessed to have found Hannah.

Nic H
Nic is a very experienced teacher who is able to adapt to different children, with an array of tools up her sleeve to keep the child engaged. After every lesson Nic is very good at telling me what they went through and what we should be focusing on. I think I am even learning myself on letter formation!
My daughter is a high functioning autistic person in reception, who needs to close some gaps in her phonics, numbers and handwriting. The leap from reception to year 1 can be difficult and Nic is helping me to get my daughter to a level where she will feel stable with the transition.
I was worried that a 1hr lesson would be too hard for my daughter and that she would not be engaged. My daughter is fully engaged and I am very impressed with what my daughter can achieve in her lesson.

Are the tutors familiar with the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence (CfE)?
Yes, many of our tutors have extensive experience with the Scottish education system, including the Curriculum for Excellence, National 5s, and Highers. You can check each tutor's profile for their specific experience and even filter your search to find tutors who specialise in the CfE.
My child is preparing for entrance exams for a competitive independent school in Scotland. Can a tutor help?
Absolutely. We have tutors who specialise in preparing children for 11+ and other school entrance exams. They can help your child build core reading comprehension skills, improve their vocabulary, and develop the exam techniques and confidence needed to perform their best.
What happens if my child doesn't click with their first tutor?
We know how important the right fit is. That's why we have our First Lesson Guarantee. If you don't get on with your tutor, email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover your first session with a new tutor.
How do I choose the right Reading tutor for my child?
You can view each tutor's profile video, read their bio, and check reviews from other parents. You can also message tutors before booking to discuss your child's needs. It's all about finding someone your child will feel comfortable and engaged with.
How much does a Reading tutor in Scotland cost?
Prices vary depending on the tutor's experience and qualifications. You can easily set your own budget and filter your search results to find a great tutor who fits your price range. The cost is clearly displayed on each tutor's profile.
How do online lessons actually work?
Our online classroom has everything your child needs for a great lesson, including video chat, an interactive whiteboard, and the ability to share documents. It's a simple, secure, and engaging way for your child to learn from home.
How are your tutors vetted?
We take your child's safety very seriously. Every tutor is background-checked and must pass an interview process. We only accept 1 in 8 tutors who apply, so you can be confident you're choosing from a pool of highly qualified and trusted educators.
How can a tutor help boost my child's confidence in Reading?
One-to-one tutoring provides a safe and supportive space where your child can ask questions without feeling embarrassed. A great tutor will celebrate small wins, patiently explain difficult concepts, and adapt their teaching style, which helps your child feel capable and much more confident.
Is tutoring just for school subjects, or can my child learn other skills?
While we have tutors for all academic subjects, we also have experts who can teach hobbies and life skills. Whether your child wants to learn guitar, master coding in Python, or even learn a new language, you can find a brilliant tutor for it on Tutorful.
How long is a typical tutoring session?
Most sessions are one hour long, as this gives enough time to cover a topic in detail without your child losing focus. However, you can discuss lesson length with your tutor to find what works best for your child's schedule and concentration.
How often should my child have lessons?
Most families find that a regular weekly lesson provides the consistency needed for steady progress. However, the frequency is completely up to you and depends on your child's goals. You can discuss this with your tutor to create a schedule that works for you.
Can a tutor help if my child has dyslexia or other learning needs?
Yes, many of our tutors have experience and qualifications in supporting children with Special Educational Needs (SEN), including dyslexia. You can use our search filters to find tutors with this specific expertise and read their profiles to learn more about their approach.
