As a Chemical Engineering graduate from the University of Manchester, I saw firsthand how many of my classmates struggled with Maths and English. It wasn't just a few; it was a common challenge. Seeing their difficulties sparked something in me. I found that I genuinely loved helping them understand concepts that seemed confusing. The feeling of watching them grasp a difficult idea was incredibly rewarding, and that's when I discovered my passion for teaching.I strongly disagree with the idea that people are naturally "good" at one subject and "bad" at another. I believe that anyone can learn anything...

Eleanor B
Great first 'getting to know' lesson. Ellie helped Monty warm to the idea of tutoring by tapping nicely into his interests (he said afterwards that he really liked her) . He is positive about having another session next week. It was good that they could discuss his current school book; I think this is going to help him.

Hannah B
Within 5 minutes of specking to Hannah, I knew she was going to be my son’s tutor. She’s personable, passionate and knows her industry inside out. We’ve only had 2 lessons, but I can see the confidence and enjoyment on my son’s face as he’s learning. My son said after his 2nd lesson, ‘Hannah is so calm and I’m really enjoying tutoring’. We are actually so blessed to have found Hannah.

Nic H
Nic is a very experienced teacher who is able to adapt to different children, with an array of tools up her sleeve to keep the child engaged. After every lesson Nic is very good at telling me what they went through and what we should be focusing on. I think I am even learning myself on letter formation!
My daughter is a high functioning autistic person in reception, who needs to close some gaps in her phonics, numbers and handwriting. The leap from reception to year 1 can be difficult and Nic is helping me to get my daughter to a level where she will feel stable with the transition.
I was worried that a 1hr lesson would be too hard for my daughter and that she would not be engaged. My daughter is fully engaged and I am very impressed with what my daughter can achieve in her lesson.

Brilliant Reading tutors who you’ll really click with.
Our experienced tutors take the time to understand where each student needs to focus and their preferred way of learning. They make a measurable difference – 90% of all students improve by at least one grade.
We live in Glossop and are aiming for a Trafford grammar school. Can a tutor help with the reading skills needed for the 11+?
Absolutely. Many of our tutors are very experienced in preparing children for the 11+ exam, including the verbal and non-verbal reasoning sections. They can focus on building your child’s vocabulary, improving their reading speed, and developing the comprehension skills needed to tackle the exam questions with confidence.
How do I choose the right Reading tutor for my child?
The best way is to look through tutor profiles and watch their short introduction videos. You can see their experience, qualifications, and teaching style. We recommend messaging a few tutors to discuss your child's needs before booking. Finding someone your child connects with is the most important step.
How much does online Reading tuition cost?
Our tutors set their own hourly rates, which are displayed clearly on their profiles. Prices vary depending on the tutor's experience and the level of study, so you can find an expert tutor who fits your family's budget.
Are all your tutors background-checked?
Yes, your child's safety is our top priority. Every tutor on our platform has passed a background check and has been personally interviewed by our team. We are very selective, accepting only 1 in every 8 tutors who apply, so you can have complete peace of mind.
What if we don't click with the first tutor?
We know that the right personal connection is key to learning. That's why we have a first lesson guarantee. If you don't get on with your first tutor for any reason, email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover your first session with a new tutor.
How does online tutoring work?
It's simple and effective. All lessons take place in our purpose-built online classroom, which features a video chat, an interactive whiteboard, and the ability to share documents. All your child needs is a laptop or computer with a webcam and a stable internet connection.
How can a tutor help my child build confidence in Reading?
Confidence often comes from understanding. In a one-to-one setting, your child has a safe space to ask questions without feeling embarrassed. Tutors can break down difficult concepts and celebrate small wins, which builds self-esteem and helps your child see that they are capable of making real progress.
How long will my child need a tutor for?
This really depends on your child's individual goals. Some students need a few sessions to prepare for a specific exam, while others benefit from weekly support throughout the school year. You can discuss this directly with your chosen tutor, who will help create a plan that's right for your child.
My child is finding the reading at Glossopdale Secondary School a big step up. Can a tutor help with this transition?
Yes, this is a very common challenge. A tutor can help your child bridge the gap between primary and secondary school reading levels. They can work on analysing more complex texts, understanding new types of questions, and managing a heavier reading workload, making the transition much smoother.
How effective is online tutoring?
It's very effective. In fact, 90% of our students improve by at least one grade. With over 200,000 happy students and a 4.6-star rating from more than 4,100 reviews, we're confident that our online platform provides the focused, one-to-one support your child needs to succeed.
My child finds reading boring. How can a tutor make it more engaging?
A great tutor will get to know your child's interests and find texts and topics that they genuinely find exciting. Whether it's reading about football, fantasy worlds, or historical events, lessons can be tailored to capture their imagination and show them that reading can be fun.
Do you only offer academic subjects, or can my child learn something else?
While we cover all academic subjects from primary to degree level, we also have brilliant tutors for a wide range of hobbies and skills. Your child could learn to play the guitar, get started with coding, or even learn a new language for fun.
