My daughter has been having tutoring session with Jo for some time now, her reading has improved so much in that time. My daughter can be quite shy but she settled with Jo very quickly and she makes the lesson engaging and fun.Would recommend to anyone who needs some help for their child who is behind at school.

Eleanor B
Great first 'getting to know' lesson. Ellie helped Monty warm to the idea of tutoring by tapping nicely into his interests (he said afterwards that he really liked her) . He is positive about having another session next week. It was good that they could discuss his current school book; I think this is going to help him.

Hannah B
Within 5 minutes of specking to Hannah, I knew she was going to be my son’s tutor. She’s personable, passionate and knows her industry inside out. We’ve only had 2 lessons, but I can see the confidence and enjoyment on my son’s face as he’s learning. My son said after his 2nd lesson, ‘Hannah is so calm and I’m really enjoying tutoring’. We are actually so blessed to have found Hannah.

Nic H
Nic is a very experienced teacher who is able to adapt to different children, with an array of tools up her sleeve to keep the child engaged. After every lesson Nic is very good at telling me what they went through and what we should be focusing on. I think I am even learning myself on letter formation!
My daughter is a high functioning autistic person in reception, who needs to close some gaps in her phonics, numbers and handwriting. The leap from reception to year 1 can be difficult and Nic is helping me to get my daughter to a level where she will feel stable with the transition.
I was worried that a 1hr lesson would be too hard for my daughter and that she would not be engaged. My daughter is fully engaged and I am very impressed with what my daughter can achieve in her lesson.

My child is preparing for the Transfer Test for Foyle College. Can I find a tutor with experience in this?
Yes, absolutely. Many of our tutors have specific experience helping children prepare for the post-primary Transfer Test. You can check their profiles for details on their expertise and even message them before booking to discuss your child's specific needs for grammar school entrance.
We live in County Londonderry. How does online tutoring work if the tutor isn't local?
Online tutoring gives you access to the best tutors across the UK, not just those nearby. All lessons take place in our interactive online classroom, which has a video chat, an interactive whiteboard, and document sharing tools. It’s a secure and effective way for your child to learn from home.
How do I choose the right Reading tutor for my child?
You can start by browsing tutor profiles, where you can see their experience, qualifications, and reviews from other parents. We recommend watching their short introduction videos to get a feel for their personality and teaching style. You can also message tutors for free to ask any questions before you book.
What if my child doesn't click with their first tutor?
It's really important that your child feels comfortable with their tutor. That's why we have our First Lesson Guarantee. If you don't get on with your tutor, email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover your first session with a new tutor.
How much does online Reading tutoring cost?
Prices vary depending on the tutor's experience and qualifications. Tutors set their own hourly rates, which are clearly displayed on their profiles. This transparency allows you to find a brilliant tutor who also fits your family's budget.
How can a tutor help my child with reading comprehension specifically?
A tutor can use targeted techniques to improve comprehension. They might work with your child on identifying the main idea in a text, understanding context clues, making inferences, and summarising passages – all key skills for the Transfer Test and beyond.
My child finds reading a chore. How can a tutor help?
A great tutor can make all the difference by finding books and topics that genuinely interest your child. By making sessions fun and engaging, they can help rebuild confidence and transform reading from a chore into an enjoyable activity.
Are all your tutors background-checked?
Yes, your child's safety is our top priority. Every single one of our tutors has passed an enhanced DBS check. We also interview every applicant and only accept 1 in 8, so you can have complete peace of mind.
How long are the tutoring sessions?
Lessons are typically one hour long, which is usually the perfect amount of time for your child to focus and make progress without feeling overwhelmed. Most families find that one session a week works well, but you can arrange a schedule that best suits your child's needs with your tutor.
What happens in a typical online Reading lesson?
Each lesson is tailored to your child, but it might start with a quick chat about what they've been doing at school. The tutor could then use the interactive whiteboard to work through a practice paper, analyse a piece of text together, or play vocabulary-building games. It's always interactive and focused on your child's goals.
Is Tutorful just for academic subjects like Reading, or can my child learn other things too?
We offer tutoring in over 300 subjects! While we're here to help with core subjects like Reading, Maths and Science, your child can also learn practical skills like coding or a new language, or even take up a new hobby like learning the guitar or singing.
How quickly can we find a tutor and get started?
You can get started very quickly. Many parents find the perfect tutor and have their first lesson booked within 24 hours. Simply search for your subject, browse our trusted tutors, and send a message to the one you feel is the right fit for your child.
