To ensure good progress, I find out about a student's interests and try to personalise lessons at every opportunity. Over my career so far, I've taught in several junior, primary and first schools across the West Midlands, worked as a TA in a school for dyslexic children in Denmark...

Eleanor B
Great first 'getting to know' lesson. Ellie helped Monty warm to the idea of tutoring by tapping nicely into his interests (he said afterwards that he really liked her) . He is positive about having another session next week. It was good that they could discuss his current school book; I think this is going to help him.

Hannah B
Within 5 minutes of specking to Hannah, I knew she was going to be my son’s tutor. She’s personable, passionate and knows her industry inside out. We’ve only had 2 lessons, but I can see the confidence and enjoyment on my son’s face as he’s learning. My son said after his 2nd lesson, ‘Hannah is so calm and I’m really enjoying tutoring’. We are actually so blessed to have found Hannah.

Nic H
Nic is a very experienced teacher who is able to adapt to different children, with an array of tools up her sleeve to keep the child engaged. After every lesson Nic is very good at telling me what they went through and what we should be focusing on. I think I am even learning myself on letter formation!
My daughter is a high functioning autistic person in reception, who needs to close some gaps in her phonics, numbers and handwriting. The leap from reception to year 1 can be difficult and Nic is helping me to get my daughter to a level where she will feel stable with the transition.
I was worried that a 1hr lesson would be too hard for my daughter and that she would not be engaged. My daughter is fully engaged and I am very impressed with what my daughter can achieve in her lesson.

Brilliant Reading tutors who you’ll really click with.
Our experienced tutors take the time to understand where each student needs to focus and their preferred way of learning. They make a measurable difference – 90% of all students improve by at least one grade.
My child is aiming for the sixth form at The Stourport High School. Can a tutor help build the reading skills needed for A-Levels?
Absolutely. A-Levels require a big step up in comprehension and analytical skills. A Reading tutor can work with your child on advanced texts, helping them learn to critically analyse sources and articulate complex ideas, which are essential skills for success in sixth form.
We're also considering Kidderminster College. How can a Reading tutor prepare my child for further education?
A tutor can help bridge the gap between GCSEs and the demands of college. They can focus on practical skills like research, understanding academic texts, and developing the independent study habits your child will need to thrive at Kidderminster College or any other further education institution.
How do I find the right Reading tutor for my child?
It's simple. You can use our search filters to find tutors with the right experience, from primary level phonics to GCSE text analysis. You can read reviews from other parents, watch introductory videos, and message tutors for free to make sure you've found the perfect match for your child's personality and needs.
How much does online Reading tuition cost?
Our tutors set their own hourly rates, typically starting from around £20 per hour. Prices vary based on the tutor's experience and the level of study. You can easily filter by price to find a brilliant tutor who fits your budget.
What if my child doesn't click with their first tutor?
We know that the right fit is crucial for learning. That's why we have our First Lesson Guarantee. If you don't get on with your tutor, email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover your first session with a new tutor.
Are all the tutors background-checked?
Yes, your child's safety is our top priority. Every single one of our tutors has passed a background check before they can teach on our platform. We are very selective, accepting only 1 in 8 tutors who apply, so you can have complete peace of mind.
How can a tutor help my child if they find reading boring?
A great tutor can change a child's whole perspective on reading. By finding books and topics that genuinely interest your child, they can make learning feel less like a chore and more like an adventure. They use interactive tools and engaging activities to bring texts to life.
What happens in a typical online reading lesson?
Lessons take place in our interactive online classroom, which has a video chat, an interactive whiteboard, and document sharing. A tutor might work through a school text with your child, practise comprehension techniques, or use fun exercises to build vocabulary, all tailored to your child's needs.
How long are the lessons and how often should we have them?
Lessons are typically one hour long. Most families find that one session a week is ideal for making steady progress, but the frequency is completely up to you. You can discuss what works best for your child's goals directly with your chosen tutor.
Will this help my child's confidence, not just their reading level?
Yes, this is one of the biggest benefits parents tell us about. The one-to-one attention from an encouraging tutor helps children feel safe to ask questions and make mistakes. As they see themselves improving, their self-belief grows, and that newfound confidence often spreads to other subjects too.
Do you only offer academic subjects, or can my child learn something for fun?
We offer a huge range of subjects beyond the school curriculum. Whether your child wants to learn to play the guitar, get into coding, or pick up a new language, you can find expert tutors to help them explore their passions.
How quickly can my child start their first lesson?
Very quickly! Many of our tutors can offer a lesson within a few days. Once you've found a tutor you like, you can message them directly to check their availability and book your first session at a time that works for you.
