Inspiring Photography tutor
I am an artist, photographer and educator with over 15 years’ experience teaching photography, film and art & design in further and higher education. I primarily teach students aged 16+, but also have experience supporting GCSE students through my work as a community art educator.I have taught Photography and Art at A Level and am familiar with Eduqas and WJEC exam boards, supporting students with coursework, exam preparation, project development and portfolio building.Teaching is a passion rather than simply a job for me. I take a collaborative, student-centred approach, encouraging curiosity, c...
I started working with Jamie 4 months ago when I was struggling with A-Level photography. He is incredibly supportive and clear in aspects that I could improve on to meet exam criteria and his dedication towards helping me to improve is extremely evident. I have weekly sessions with Jamie and he has always been very flexible. These weekly sessions have always been tailored to my needs and what I feel will benefit me the most. His feedback is always specific and his guidance has allowed me to secure a top grade in my January mocks. I would highly recommend Jamie to anyone needing support or wanting to push their coursework further.

Clara C
Clara is a really great teacher for Photography A Level. My daughter needed help with the essay part of her course. I knew she would be good when I read about her experience but she has a lovely manner and way of teaching as well. Clara was also equally as good when she needed help with her Art A-Level essay.

Brilliant Photography tutors who you’ll really click with.
Our experienced tutors take the time to understand where each student needs to focus and their preferred way of learning. They make a measurable difference – 90% of all students improve by at least one grade.
My child is at a Plymouth grammar school and wants to apply for a top university. Can a tutor really help their portfolio stand out?
Absolutely. That's one of the main reasons parents in Plymouth come to us. Our specialist Photography tutors can provide an expert, objective eye. They know what admissions tutors at competitive universities look for and can help your child curate their best work, refine their technique, and present a portfolio that truly shows off their potential.
How can an online tutor help my child use Plymouth's scenery in their work?
That's a great question. Whilst your child captures Plymouth's unique light and landscapes, an online tutor can provide the critical feedback needed to elevate those images. They can teach them how to see their local environment with a fresh perspective, work on composition, and build a project with a strong narrative, turning familiar views into a distinctive body of work.
Is online tutoring effective for a practical subject like Photography?
Yes, it's incredibly effective. Tutors use screen sharing to demonstrate editing software in real-time, provide detailed feedback on digital portfolios, and share inspirational resources. Students can show their work instantly for critique. It offers all the benefits of one-to-one guidance with the added flexibility of learning from home.
What happens if my child doesn't click with their first tutor?
We know that the right personal connection is vital, especially in a creative subject. If the first session isn't a perfect fit, please email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk. We'll be happy to cover the cost of your first lesson with a new tutor.
How do you vet your Photography tutors?
Our tutors are not only passionate photographers but also experienced teachers. Many are practising artists, commercial photographers, or university lecturers. We interview every tutor and they must pass a background check. We only accept 1 in 8 applicants, ensuring your child learns from the best.
How much do online Photography tutors cost for a student in Plymouth?
Our tutors set their own rates, typically starting from around £25 per hour. You can view each tutor's price on their profile, allowing you to find an experienced, high-quality tutor whose fees align with your family's budget. There are no hidden costs or joining fees.
What equipment does my child need for online Photography lessons?
All they need is a computer or tablet with a webcam, a microphone, and a stable internet connection for the video call. For sharing their work, they'll need their camera (a DSLR, mirrorless, or even a good smartphone camera is often fine to start) and a way to upload their digital photos.
How often should my child have a lesson?
Most students have one session a week, especially when working towards a goal like a portfolio deadline or GCSE/A-Level exams. However, it's completely flexible. You can arrange a schedule that works for you and your child directly with your chosen tutor.
My child is also interested in film-making. Do you offer tutors for other creative subjects?
Yes, we do! Many of our students explore a range of creative passions with us. We have expert tutors in Graphic Design, Fine Art, Music Production, Creative Writing, and many more subjects, all available online for learners in Plymouth.
Can a tutor help with GCSE or A-Level Photography coursework?
Definitely. Our tutors are brilliant at providing coursework support. They can help your child understand the assessment criteria, develop their ideas for a project, and refine their final pieces, helping them to secure the best possible grade.
How do I find the right tutor for my child?
You can use the filters on our site to find tutors with specific experience, such as portfolio preparation or A-Level support. You can read their profiles, watch their intro videos, and check reviews from other parents. You can also message them before booking to ensure they're the right fit.
What equipment does my child need for online Photography lessons?
This is at the heart of what we do. A great tutor is also a great mentor. By seeing their work improve and getting positive, constructive feedback, students often experience a huge boost in creative confidence. They start to see themselves as a real artist, which is a wonderful transformation to watch.
