Shannon was my AQA A-Level Philosophy tutor and honestly, words cannot describe how wonderful and beneficial she was to my achievements within this subject! I was really struggling with philosophy and she helped me increase my grade significantly so I could secure a place in Durham University. She created these incredibly helpful PowerPoint presentations which simplified complex concepts into simple, coherent explanations. Also, she provided an amazing 25 marker essay structure and explained how each criteria within the mark scheme could be obtained. Shannon helped revitalise my love for philosophy, which had dwindled a due to exams and stress. I initially felt reluctant to share my opinions within my class because I felt my knowledge on philosophy was not strong enough, but, with Shannon, I felt comfortable and confident to share my opinions, question philosophers and deeply explore topics. We have had many delightful and thorough philosophical conversations and debates. I am forever grateful she was philosophy tutor! Thank you Shannon! :)

How can Philosophy tutoring help my child with applications for competitive Solihull schools or nearby grammar schools?
While Philosophy isn't always a direct entrance exam subject, the skills it teaches are vital. Tutors focus on critical thinking, logical reasoning, and constructing clear arguments – all of which are tested in 11+ and independent school entrance exams. It builds a strong foundation for success in verbal and non-verbal reasoning, as well as interview stages.
We're aiming for a Russell Group university. How does Philosophy support this goal?
Russell Group universities prize independent, analytical thinking above all else. Philosophy tutoring is excellent preparation. It teaches students how to critique complex texts, formulate nuanced arguments, and defend their positions – essential skills for writing personal statements, acing interviews, and thriving in seminar-based learning at top-tier institutions.
Is online tutoring as effective as in-person for a discussion-based subject like Philosophy?
Absolutely. Our online classroom is designed for deep conversation, with features like an interactive whiteboard perfect for mapping out arguments. The big advantage is access; from your home in Solihull, your child can connect with a Philosophy specialist from a top university anywhere in the UK, ensuring they get the best possible expertise.
What if my child doesn't click with their first Philosophy tutor?
Finding the right personality match is key, and we want you to feel confident. If the first session isn't a perfect fit, just email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover the cost of your first lesson with a new tutor. It's that simple.
How are your Philosophy tutors vetted?
We're incredibly selective. We only accept 1 in every 8 tutors who apply. Every tutor undergoes a rigorous application process, including an interview and a background check. We look for brilliant subject knowledge combined with a real passion for teaching and connecting with students.
What qualifications do your Philosophy tutors have?
Our tutors come from a wide range of academic backgrounds, but many hold degrees in Philosophy or related subjects from leading universities. You can view each tutor's full profile, including their qualifications, experience, and reviews from other parents, to find the perfect match for your child.
How much do online Philosophy lessons cost?
Prices vary depending on the tutor's experience and qualifications. You can see each tutor's hourly rate clearly on their profile. There are no hidden fees or contracts, so you can find high-quality, expert support that fits your family's budget.
How do we schedule lessons around a busy school and activity timetable?
Flexibility is one of the biggest benefits of online tutoring. You can see each tutor's availability on their profile and book slots that fit around football practice, music lessons, and family commitments. Many tutors offer evening and weekend sessions.
My child also needs help with GCSE Maths. Can we find a tutor for that too?
Yes, of course. We have expert tutors across more than 300 subjects, from core GCSEs and A-Levels like Maths, English, and the Sciences, to music, coding, and languages. You can find all the support your child needs in one place.
How long will it take to see an improvement in my child's confidence or grades?
Every child learns at their own pace, but our process is designed for progress. Many parents tell us they see a boost in their child's confidence and engagement after just a few sessions. Consistent weekly lessons are the best way to build momentum towards achieving specific academic goals.
What technology does my child need for an online lesson?
It's very simple. All your child needs is a laptop or computer, a stable internet connection, and a webcam with a microphone. Our purpose-built online classroom runs in your web browser, so there's no complicated software to install.
How much do online Philosophy lessons cost?
