Grace G
Kind and patient Philosophy tutor and Oxford student
Hello, I'm Grace. I study Spanish and Italian at the University of Oxford with a Choral Scholarship. I achieved A*A*A in my A-levels and a Distinction in Spanish in my first year exams at Oxford. Each lesson is tailored to the student's individual needs and I use a combination of different materials to keep the lessons fun and engaging, including quizzes, films and music resources. As a previously home-educated student who self-studied both my GCSEs and A-levels, I can support students with independent learning and teach them strategies to help them achieve top grades. I have a recent Enhanced...
Shannon was my AQA A-Level Philosophy tutor and honestly, words cannot describe how wonderful and beneficial she was to my achievements within this subject! I was really struggling with philosophy and she helped me increase my grade significantly so I could secure a place in Durham University. She created these incredibly helpful PowerPoint presentations which simplified complex concepts into simple, coherent explanations. Also, she provided an amazing 25 marker essay structure and explained how each criteria within the mark scheme could be obtained. Shannon helped revitalise my love for philosophy, which had dwindled a due to exams and stress. I initially felt reluctant to share my opinions within my class because I felt my knowledge on philosophy was not strong enough, but, with Shannon, I felt comfortable and confident to share my opinions, question philosophers and deeply explore topics. We have had many delightful and thorough philosophical conversations and debates. I am forever grateful she was philosophy tutor! Thank you Shannon! :)

Brilliant Philosophy tutors who you’ll really click with.
Our experienced tutors take the time to understand where each student needs to focus and their preferred way of learning. They make a measurable difference – 90% of all students improve by at least one grade.
My child attends The Grammar School at Leeds. Can a tutor match that academic pace?
Absolutely. Many of our tutors are experienced in supporting students from academically demanding schools. They can create a personalised learning plan that not only keeps pace with the curriculum but also challenges your child, helping them to explore topics in greater depth and stand out amongst their peers.
We're aiming for a competitive course at the University of Leeds. Can a Philosophy tutor help?
Yes, this is a great way to prepare. A Philosophy tutor can help your child develop the critical thinking, essay writing, and analytical skills that are highly valued in applications for competitive courses like Law, Politics, or English. They can help refine personal statements and even prepare for potential interviews by building your child's confidence in debating complex ideas.
Is online tutoring for a subject like Philosophy as effective as in-person?
Many parents find it's even more effective. Our online classroom has interactive tools like a shared whiteboard, perfect for deconstructing arguments and analysing texts together. It provides a focused, distraction-free environment, and crucially, gives your child in Leeds access to a far wider range of specialist Philosophy tutors from all over the UK.
What happens if my child doesn't get on with their first Philosophy tutor?
We know that the right fit is crucial for success. If for any reason you don't click with your first tutor, just email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk. We'll be happy to cover the cost of your first session with a new tutor to ensure you find the perfect match.
How are your Philosophy tutors vetted?
We have a rigorous selection process. Every tutor is background-checked, and we interview them to assess their expertise, teaching style, and passion for their subject. We're proud to say we only accept 1 in every 8 tutors who apply, so you can be sure your child is learning from the best.
Can tutoring help with specific A-Level or GCSE Philosophy exam techniques?
Definitely. Our tutors are well-versed in the requirements of various exam boards. They can focus sessions on exam-specific skills, such as structuring high-scoring essays, mastering key terminology, and effective time management to help your child feel prepared and confident on exam day.
My child finds reading the original philosophical texts really difficult. How can a tutor help?
This is very common, and a tutor can be a huge help. They can break down dense passages, explain difficult vocabulary, and provide the historical context needed to make sense of the ideas. Working through it together, one-to-one, makes the material far less intimidating and much more engaging.
How much does online Philosophy tutoring for a student in Leeds cost?
Our tutors set their own hourly rates, typically starting from £15 per hour. Prices vary based on the tutor's experience and the level of study. You can browse profiles and filter by price to find a fantastic tutor who fits your budget.
We have a busy schedule with after-school activities in Leeds. Is scheduling flexible?
Yes, that's one of the biggest benefits of online tutoring. You're not restricted by travel time or location. You can arrange sessions for evenings, weekends, or whenever suits your family's busy routine, making it much easier to fit in that extra support.
How quickly can we find a tutor and begin lessons?
You can get started very quickly. Simply use our search filters to find tutors who match your needs, send them a message to check their availability, and you could be having your first online session within a day or two.
Beyond Philosophy, do you offer tutors for other subjects?
Yes, we do! We offer expert online tutors in over 300 subjects, from core academic subjects like Maths, English, and the Sciences, to languages, humanities, and even practical skills like coding and music tuition. Whatever your child needs support with, we're here to help.
My child finds reading the original philosophical texts really difficult. How can a tutor help?
The most common session length is one hour, which gives enough time to dive into a topic without losing focus. However, you can arrange different session lengths with your tutor – some students prefer a longer 90-minute session for A-Level work, for example. It's completely flexible.
