Shannon was my AQA A-Level Philosophy tutor and honestly, words cannot describe how wonderful and beneficial she was to my achievements within this subject! I was really struggling with philosophy and she helped me increase my grade significantly so I could secure a place in Durham University. She created these incredibly helpful PowerPoint presentations which simplified complex concepts into simple, coherent explanations. Also, she provided an amazing 25 marker essay structure and explained how each criteria within the mark scheme could be obtained. Shannon helped revitalise my love for philosophy, which had dwindled a due to exams and stress. I initially felt reluctant to share my opinions within my class because I felt my knowledge on philosophy was not strong enough, but, with Shannon, I felt comfortable and confident to share my opinions, question philosophers and deeply explore topics. We have had many delightful and thorough philosophical conversations and debates. I am forever grateful she was philosophy tutor! Thank you Shannon! :)

Brilliant Philosophy tutors who you’ll really click with.
Our experienced tutors take the time to understand where each student needs to focus and their preferred way of learning. They make a measurable difference – 90% of all students improve by at least one grade.
We're concerned the A-Level Philosophy options in Derby are limited. How can a tutor help?
We completely understand. This is a common concern for parents whose children are aiming high. An online tutor can provide the depth and focus that might be missing, going beyond the school curriculum to explore topics and texts that will strengthen your child's university application and prepare them for undergraduate study.
My child wants to study Philosophy at a competitive university like Nottingham. Can a tutor help with their application?
Absolutely. Our tutors, many of whom are graduates from Russell Group universities themselves, are brilliant at this. They can help your child hone their analytical and essay-writing skills, develop their ideas for a personal statement, and even practise the kind of critical thinking needed for interviews, giving them a real competitive edge.
Is online tutoring effective for a discussion-based subject like Philosophy?
Yes, it's incredibly effective. Our online classroom has an interactive whiteboard perfect for mapping out arguments and breaking down texts. The one-to-one format allows for focused, in-depth debate and discussion that might not always be possible in a busy school classroom. It's a fantastic environment for exploring complex ideas.
What if my child doesn't click with the first Philosophy tutor we try?
Finding the right personality match is essential, and we want you to be completely happy. If you don't get on with your first tutor for any reason, just email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover your first session with a new tutor.
How do you ensure your Philosophy tutors are high quality?
We're very selective. Only 1 in 8 applicants make it onto our platform. Every tutor is interviewed, background-checked, and has proven expertise in their subject. For A-Level Philosophy, we look for tutors with strong academic backgrounds who have experience helping students achieve top grades.
How much do online Philosophy tutors for students in Derby cost?
Prices vary depending on the tutor's experience and qualifications. You can see each tutor's hourly rate clearly on their profile. There are no hidden fees or contracts, so you have the flexibility to find brilliant support that fits your budget.
My child's schedule is already packed. How flexible is online tutoring?
This is one of the biggest benefits of online tutoring. You can schedule sessions whenever it suits your family – evenings, weekends, even during school holidays. Because you're not limited to tutors in your immediate area, you have a much wider choice of tutors and available time slots.
What equipment does my child need for their online sessions?
It's very simple. All they need is a laptop or computer, a stable internet connection, and a webcam with a microphone. Our online classroom is browser-based, so there's no complicated software to download. We've made it as easy as possible to get started.
Can we get help with other subjects besides Philosophy?
Of course. We offer tutoring in over 300 subjects, from core academic areas like Maths, English, and the Sciences to languages, music, coding, and professional skills. Whatever your child needs help with, we have expert tutors ready to support them.
How do I know if my child is making progress?
This is a conversation you and your child can have directly with your tutor. They will provide regular feedback on areas of strength and topics to work on. Many parents tell us the first sign of progress is seeing their child's confidence grow and their attitude towards the subject improve.
Can a tutor help my child with specific A-Level modules or exam techniques?
Definitely. Our tutors are experienced with all major exam boards (AQA, Edexcel, OCR). They can tailor sessions to focus on specific modules your child finds tricky, from metaphysics to ethics, and work on proven techniques for structuring essays to maximise marks.
My child's schedule is already packed. How flexible is online tutoring?
Our tutors are based all across the UK, not specifically in Derby. The beauty of our online platform is that it connects your child with the best subject specialists from anywhere in the country, right from the comfort of your home. This gives you a far greater choice of expertise.
