Supportive Maths tutor
I am now graduated from Oxford University with a degree in mathematics.Mathematics is a subject a lot of people struggle with, but only because it isn't taught like it should be. Maths can be a beautiful subject with visual intuition and ah-hah applications, and a bridge of so much more in between.I like to try and help teach people not just lists of facts to memorise, but to help them see why all of this works until it seems like common sense. A good mathematical education is one where you can see not just what you need to know, but deep under the hood as well.I remember when I was in school and...
Victoria is tutoring my 14 year old son in GCSE maths. He is a reluctant student but he has responded very well to Victoria who has built a good relationship with him quickly. His maths confidence and capability is also improving quickly. I am very happy to recommend Victoria

Theresa A
Theresa is a fantastic Maths tutor! She is knowledgable and patient, and creates a very supportive learning environment. She has been teaching my sister for a while now, and has been essential in boosting her confidence and keeping her on track to get a 9 in her GCSEs - Theresa has now helped her through multiple mock exams and even sixth form entrance exams. Her communication is always great and she's super friendly - highly recommend!!

Liz B
Liz is an amazing tutor, our daughter is currently in her final GCSE year. Liz has spent time on understanding the gaps in her knowledge by spending time looking at her mock results, and then creating tailored sessions to close those gaps down. The sessions are at the right pace and Liz adjusts them on how quickly my daughter is picking the method being taught. Our daughter has come on massively with this extra 121 tutoring from Liz, and has really boosted her confidence.

Brilliant Maths tutors who you’ll really click with.
Our experienced tutors take the time to understand where each student needs to focus and their preferred way of learning. They make a measurable difference – 90% of all students improve by at least one grade.
Can a tutor help my child get the Maths grade needed for A-Levels at Carlisle College?
Yes, absolutely. Many A-Level courses have specific GCSE Maths grade requirements. Our tutors can work with your child to target the exact topics they need to master to secure the grade they're aiming for, giving them the best chance of getting onto their chosen course.
My child wants to study a STEM subject at a university like Lancaster or Newcastle. Can a Maths tutor help prepare them?
Definitely. A strong foundation in Maths is vital for university-level STEM courses. Our tutors, many of whom have degrees in these subjects, can help your child not only with their school curriculum but also by introducing them to the advanced concepts they'll need for university, building a solid base for their future studies.
What happens if we don't click with the first tutor?
We want to make sure you find the perfect match for your child. If you don't get on with your tutor, email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover your first session with a new tutor.
Do you only offer core school subjects, or could my child learn something different like coding or guitar?
We offer a huge range of subjects beyond the core curriculum. Whether your child wants to learn a new language, master a musical instrument like the guitar, or get ahead with practical skills like coding, you can find an expert tutor to help them explore their interests.
How do I choose the right Maths tutor for my child?
You can watch introductory videos, read reviews from other parents, and check each tutor's experience. You can also message tutors before booking to ask about their teaching style and how they'd support your child's specific goals. It's all about finding someone your child feels comfortable with.
How much does a Maths tutor in Carlisle cost?
Prices vary depending on the tutor's experience and qualifications. Tutors set their own hourly rates, which are clearly displayed on their profiles. This allows you to find an experienced, high-quality tutor that fits your family's budget.
My child has lost their confidence with Maths. How can a tutor help?
This is very common, and it's where one-to-one tutoring really shines. A tutor creates a safe, patient environment where your child can ask questions without feeling embarrassed. By breaking down tricky topics and celebrating small wins, they help rebuild self-belief step-by-step.
How do online lessons work?
Our online classroom has everything your child needs: a two-way video stream, an interactive whiteboard, and the ability to share documents. It's a simple, effective, and engaging way to learn from the comfort of your own home. All you need is a laptop or computer with a webcam and a stable internet connection.
How do you make sure the tutors are safe and qualified?
Your child's safety is our top priority. Every tutor is background-checked, and we verify their ID and qualifications. We are very selective, accepting only 1 in every 8 tutors who apply, so you can be sure your child is learning from the best.
How often should my child have a lesson?
Most families find that one hour-long session per week is ideal for consistent progress. However, it's completely flexible. You might want to arrange more sessions in the run-up to an important exam. You can discuss what's best for your child directly with your chosen tutor.
How quickly will I see an improvement in my child's grades?
Every child learns at their own pace, but our data shows that 90% of students improve by at least one grade. The biggest change parents often notice first is a boost in their child's confidence and a more positive attitude towards the subject, which is the foundation for academic improvement.
What do I need to get started with online tutoring?
It's simple. All you need is a laptop or desktop computer with a webcam, microphone, and a reliable internet connection. There’s no special software to download, as all lessons take place directly in your web browser.
