David L
David is definitely one of the best tutors I have ever had! I am a university student and reached out to him about two months ago, wanting to learn Latin from scratch for personal interest, with the goal of sitting the GCSE Latin exam in about six months. While most tutors I approached dismissed this as unrealistic, David took on the challenge without hesitation.
His lessons are truly exceptionally well delivered, with a level of precision that reflects thorough preparation and extensive teaching experience. Through our weekly lessons, we have been able to cover more than half of the language component of the GCSE within just 2 months! But more importantly, I am able to retain the material effectively because David consistently incorporates active recall into our lessons and offers really useful advice on how to memorise things by building logical connections. His explanations are clear and succinct, lessons are well structured, and his ability to adjust the pace to my progress has made the learning process both manageable and effective.
David is also incredibly patient and motivating. His teaching style gives me full confidence that he can work effectively with learners of all levels and backgrounds. I would highly recommend him as you Latin tutor!

Great and honest tutor, not afraid to tell you were you went wrong. Overall has been very helpful for me in Latin, provides a space were he both helps you and gives you the opportunity to individually test yourself, throughout the lesson.

Ellie T
Ellie has provided outstanding support in my preparation for the WJEC Latin examinations.
Prior to beginning weekly tuition, I found the subject particularly challenging; however, through her clear explanations, structured approach, and consistent guidance, I have made significant progress and developed much greater confidence.
As I work towards my pre-GCSE mock examinations and my GCSEs next year, I am very pleased to be continuing my lessons with Ellie. Her professionalism and expertise have been invaluable, and I hope to benefit from her tuition throughout my GCSE studies.

Cian K
Cian has been an excellent excellent tutor for my daughter in A Level Latin. Latin used to be by far my daughter’s most difficult and least enjoyable subject. She was stuck on a B/C grade no matter how much she revised, and found the Prose Composition section impossible.
Despite starting lessons just a few months before the exams, Cian has encouraged my daughter and gone through all her weaker areas thoroughly with a strong focus on exam practice via textbooks and past papers alongside teaching her content with fantastic notes and examples. Cian has been a kind tutor with great communication and has eased all my daughter’s concerns in Latin, giving her confidence.
She has just achieved an A overall, with the Prose Composition being her best paper (45/50), something she never ever thought she could achieve. Thank you so so much Cian!

Emanuele P
Emanuele has been helping my daughter in Latin A-level as she was struggling bit to catch up with all the content and had a lack of confidence. In just a few lessons, he has already brought her up to scratch in all the aspects she was struggling with: unseen translations, comprehension and literature essays. Emanuele is friendly and supportive, and came to every lesson well prepared. He has also been providing many useful resources to supplement my daughter’s learning every week. Many thanks so far Emanuele!

Joseph B
We hired Joseph as my son had gained a conditional place to Eton and being an old Etonian, we thought Joseph would be perfect knowing what would be required academically. And we were not wrong. Having never been taught Latin or Greek, our son had to have a certain knowledge for his first year. My son tells me that Joseph made the lessons fun and the two of them got on really well. Joe was very punctual, thorough and obviously had put in a lot of time in the lesson planning. My son was happy to meet someone who had experienced Eton and who could talk to him about it. We recommend Joe whole heartedly. Thank you so much Joe!

Brilliant Latin tutors who you’ll really click with.
Our experienced tutors take the time to understand where each student needs to focus and their preferred way of learning. They make a measurable difference – 90% of all students improve by at least one grade.
My child hopes to apply to Durham or Newcastle University. Can a tutor help with that?
Absolutely. Many of our Latin tutors are graduates from top universities and have experience helping students with their applications. They can help your child build the deep subject knowledge and analytical skills that admissions tutors at competitive universities like Durham and Newcastle are looking for.
We're looking at schools like the Royal Grammar School. Can we find a tutor familiar with independent school standards?
Yes, you can. When you search, you can view each tutor's profile to see their experience, including if they have helped students prepare for entrance exams or meet the high academic standards of leading independent schools in the Newcastle area. Many have specific experience in this area.
How do I choose the right Latin tutor for my child?
It's a really personal choice. We recommend reading tutor profiles, checking their qualifications and experience, and watching their introductory videos to get a feel for their personality. You can also message tutors before booking to ask any specific questions you have about how they can help your child.
What if we don't click with the first tutor?
We know how important the right fit is. That's why we have our first lesson guarantee. If you don't get on with your tutor, email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover your first session with a new tutor.
How much do online Latin tutors cost?
Prices vary depending on the tutor's experience and qualifications. You can see each tutor's hourly rate clearly on their profile, allowing you to find an experienced tutor who fits your family's budget. There are no hidden fees or extra costs.
Are all the tutors' backgrounds checked?
Yes, your child's safety is our absolute priority. Every tutor on our platform must pass a background check and have their ID verified before they can start teaching. We are very selective, accepting only 1 in 8 tutors who apply.
How can a tutor help my child feel more confident in Latin?
Confidence often comes from understanding. In a one-to-one setting, there are no silly questions. Your child can go over things as many times as they need to, in a way that makes sense to them. This patient, personalised support helps them master the topic and feel much more confident in class.
How does online tutoring work?
It's simple and effective. All lessons take place in our purpose-built online classroom, which features a video chat, an interactive whiteboard, and the ability to share documents. All your child needs is a laptop or computer with a stable internet connection, a webcam, and a microphone.
How often should my child have a lesson?
Most families find that one hour-long session per week is a great starting point for making steady progress. However, you can arrange sessions as often as you feel your child needs, whether that's more frequently in the run-up to an exam or less often for general support.
Do you only offer academic subjects like Latin?
While we have fantastic tutors for core subjects, we also believe in learning for life. You can find tutors for a huge range of skills, from learning to play the guitar or speak Spanish, to mastering practical skills like coding with Python.
What happens in a typical first lesson?
The first session is usually about the tutor getting to know your child. They'll chat about what your child enjoys, what they find difficult in Latin, and what they want to achieve. It's a relaxed way to build a rapport and create a plan for future lessons.
How can a tutor help my child feel more confident in Latin?
The standard lesson length is one hour, which gives enough time to dive into a topic properly without your child losing focus. You can discuss arranging longer or shorter sessions directly with your chosen tutor if needed.
