I am a qualified teacher working as a subject lead in Latin at an Ofsted Outstanding state secondary school in south London. As a postgraduate, I specialised in Latin and English literature, specifically Ovid’s poetry and James Joyce’s novels. I have experience in teaching Latin, Classical Civilisation, History and English.Typically, I identify what it is I need to teach a student in a given lesson beforehand, and start with some recall of the necessary prerequisite knowledge. Then, I explain the new content and go through some examples and non-examples, asking further probing questions to eit...

Ricarda M
My daughter has been using Ricarda for A Level German tuition for the past couple of months. My daughter's test grades have already gone up and her teacher has commented on the progress she has made over the last couple of months. Ricarda is very personable, reliable and responsive. She listens, and quickly understood the areas my daughter needs to work on. She is a great tutor and I'm very happy that I chose her to support my daughter. I would highly recommend Ricarda!

Mara F
I've been learning German with Mara for around 2 months having used language apps prior to this.
Mara quickly grasped my level, identifying my weaknesses whilst also taking onboard my overall aspirations and what I hoped to achieve from tutoring.
Throughout my lessons, she has both requested and listened to my feedback regarding lesson structure, which are tailored to my preferences making them engaging and enjoyable.
Mara's traditional approach has improved my understanding of fundamental German language concepts which I hope to build on in the future.
In addition to the above, Mara is flexible with her schedule and very responsive outside of lesson time.

Brilliant German tutors who you’ll really click with.
Our experienced tutors take the time to understand where each student needs to focus and their preferred way of learning. They make a measurable difference – 90% of all students improve by at least one grade.
My child attends a very academic school in Dulwich. Can a tutor match that rigorous pace?
Absolutely. Many of our tutors are experienced in supporting students from highly academic environments like Dulwich College, JAGS, and Alleyn's. They can tailor lessons to complement the school's curriculum, stretch your child's abilities, and focus on the specific skills needed to turn a good grade into a top A* or 9.
We're aiming for Oxbridge or a top Russell Group university. Can a tutor help with the German element of the application?
Yes. Our tutors can provide specialist support that goes beyond the standard curriculum. They can help your child develop the critical analysis and sophisticated language skills that impress admissions tutors, whether it's for an entrance exam, an interview, or simply achieving that crucial A* grade on their application.
What if my child doesn't click with their first tutor?
We understand how important the right fit is. That’s why we have our First Lesson Guarantee. If for any reason you don't get on with your first tutor, simply email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover your first session with a new tutor.
How do I choose the right German tutor for my child?
You can read detailed tutor profiles, watch introductory videos, and check ratings and reviews from other parents. We recommend messaging a few tutors to discuss your child's specific goals before booking. This helps ensure you find the perfect match for their learning style and personality.
How much does a German tutor cost?
Prices vary depending on the tutor's experience and qualifications. You can see each tutor's hourly rate clearly on their profile. There are no hidden fees or contracts, so you just pay for the lessons you book.
My child is losing confidence in German. How can a tutor help?
One-to-one tutoring is fantastic for building confidence. In a safe, supportive space, your child can ask questions they might be shy to ask in class. Tutors celebrate small wins and break down difficult topics, helping your child feel capable and motivated again.
How do you vet your tutors?
We take safety and quality very seriously. Every tutor must pass a rigorous application process, including an interview and a background check. We only accept 1 in every 8 tutors who apply, so you can be sure your child is learning from a trusted professional.
How do the online lessons work?
Our online classroom has everything your child needs: video chat, an interactive whiteboard, and the ability to share documents. It's a simple and effective way to learn. All your child needs is a laptop or computer and a stable internet connection.
How often should my child have a lesson?
Most families find a one-hour lesson per week is a great starting point for consistent progress. However, it's completely flexible. You can arrange sessions with your tutor based on your child's needs, whether that's more frequent lessons ahead of an exam or fortnightly top-ups.
Do you only offer academic subjects like German?
Not at all! While we have experts for core subjects from the 11+ right through to degree level, we also have talented tutors who can teach hobbies and professional skills, from learning the guitar or coding in Python to public speaking.
