Rachel B
Enthusiastic tutor of Food, Nutrition and English.
I have been teaching Food and Nutrition to GCSE standard in secondary schools for over 20 years. This has involved me planning, preparing and delivering both theory and practical lessons for students, always endeavouring to make the subject as fun and engaging as possible. Very often students opt for this subject at GCSE believing it is ' just cooking' but there is so much more to it than that! Particularly in recent times, the amount of food science content in the Food curriculum has really increased, and this can be quite daunting for students to get to grips with. I really enjoy helping them...

John has been working with my son for the past two months. In that time, he has shown a real passion in helping my son succeed. Apart from the scheduled lessons, John takes the time to review my son's school work to ensure he is confident and can excel at school. John also goes through optimal writing strategies during the tutor sessions that my son can transfer to what he is learning in class.
Overall, John is a great tutor and I would highly recommend!

Harry L
Our son has dyslexia and had taken his GCSE English several times without passing. He was demoralized with the whole process. We had 6 weeks before the next attempt and we were lucky enough to find Harry. He said that in his first lesson with him he had learnt more about exam technique than he had in all of his GCSE lessons. Today he got a grade 5 which seemed impossible before Harry's tutor sessions. Thankyou very much Harry, our family is extremely grateful for your particular teaching skills and supporting our son to success.

Brilliant English tutors who you’ll really click with.
Our experienced tutors take the time to understand where each student needs to focus and their preferred way of learning. They make a measurable difference – 90% of all students improve by at least one grade.
My child is hoping to apply to Worthing College. Can a tutor help them secure the GCSE English grade they need?
Absolutely. Our tutors are very experienced in helping students meet the entry requirements for colleges like Worthing and Chichester. They can focus specifically on the areas of the GCSE English curriculum your child finds tricky, helping them build the skills and confidence needed to secure a Grade 5 or above.
We live in Littlehampton. How does online tutoring work if the tutor isn't local?
Online tutoring gives you access to the best tutors across the UK, not just those nearby. Your child will connect with their tutor in our interactive online classroom, which features a whiteboard, video chat, and document sharing. It’s just like being in the same room, but with the convenience of learning from home.
How do I choose the right English tutor for my child?
You can browse tutor profiles, read reviews from other parents, and watch their introductory videos to get a feel for their teaching style. We recommend messaging a few tutors to discuss your child's goals before booking a lesson. Finding someone your child connects with is the most important first step.
What if my child doesn't click with their first English tutor?
We know that the right fit is crucial for learning. That's why we have our First Lesson Guarantee. If you don't get on with your first tutor for any reason, email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover your first session with a new tutor.
Are the tutors' backgrounds checked?
Yes, your child's safety is our top priority. All our tutors are background-checked and we interview every single one to ensure they meet our high standards. We only accept 1 in 8 tutors who apply, so you can be sure your child is in safe, expert hands.
How much does online English tutoring cost?
Our tutors set their own prices, which typically range from £25 to £45 per hour depending on their experience and qualifications. You can see the price on each tutor's profile, so you can find an expert who fits your budget with no hidden costs.
How can a tutor help my child with GCSE English exam technique?
Exam technique is often the key to improving a grade. A tutor can work with your child on time management, how to structure answers for maximum marks, and how to understand exactly what the examiner is looking for in each question. This targeted practice can make a huge difference to their final result.
How will I know if my child is making progress?
Our tutors provide regular feedback on your child's progress. You can also message your tutor at any time to discuss how things are going. Many parents tell us they see a big improvement not just in grades, but in their child's confidence and attitude towards the subject.
What happens in a typical online English lesson?
Each lesson is tailored to your child. A session might involve working through a tricky piece of homework, analysing a poem on the interactive whiteboard, practising exam-style questions, or planning an essay together. It's a focused, one-to-one session dedicated to your child's needs.
How can tutoring help my child feel more confident in class?
Often, a lack of confidence comes from not wanting to ask questions in front of peers. Tutoring provides a safe, supportive space for your child to say 'I don't understand' without any pressure. As they master topics with their tutor, their confidence grows, which they take back into the classroom.
Do you only offer academic subjects, or can my child learn something different like coding or music theory?
We offer a huge range of subjects beyond the school curriculum. Whether your child wants to learn a new skill like coding, get help with a university module, or take up a new hobby like playing the guitar, you can find an expert tutor to help them achieve their goals.
How long are the tutoring sessions and how often should they be?
Lessons are typically one hour long. Most families find that one session a week is ideal for consistent progress, but you can arrange a frequency that works best for your child's needs and your family's schedule. You are in complete control.
