*Now accepting new students- please message me if you'd like to book a free consultation. I recently graduated with a First-Class Honours degree in English Literature and Language from a top Russell Group university, and am now beginning my Master's degree in English Literature. Prior to this, I achieved two A*s and two Grade 9s in A-Level and GCSE Language and Literature respectively. As I have experienced the new GCSE and A-Level curriculum myself, I know first-hand how challenging it can be, and the opportunity to help students to secure their target grades in English is something I take great...

This cannot be achieved by the big centres offering only one way of learning.I have taught children who struggle to read, increasing reading age dramatically over a short time and have helped children...

Lucy C
Experienced English Tutor - KS3, GCSE, A level, University
Welcome to my profile. I'm an experienced online tutor and examiner, who has been teaching English Language & Literature and Religious Studies online since 2013. I am a fully qualified teacher with a Post-Graduate Certificate in Education. While I am a passionate tutor of each of these two subjects individually, more importantly I feel that my experience in each subject contributes something to the other. For example, my knowledge of Biblical and Greek mythological references from my study of world religions is often really useful when interpreting certain texts by Shakespeare or other non-contemporary...
Ben is an amazing tutor, he’s really got my step son who has Asperger’s to engage, lessons are planned and structured, post lesson feedback given which really helps as I can send it over to his mom after his lesson and know what he needs to revise. Definitely a worthwhile investment in my step sons future!

Holly has been tutoring my son in English GCSE for the last half term. He has found the lessons very useful, working in a logical order through the different aspects of the curriculum. Holly is friendly, approachable and encouraging.
My Son has just had his mock exam results and has moved from just hitting an exam grade boundary to being 2 points off the next grade up. We are very pleased at his progress in a short space of time.

Mamun A
My son is really improving since starting lessons with Mamun. From the start of the lesson getting almost all questions wrong to by the end completely understanding it all. Tested him a few days later and he got almost every question right without any help at all he remembered all the punctuation in all questions, shocked how much he's improved from just one lesson on it! Mamun's teaching is brilliant and it really seems to stick in my sons head. Also my son is very fussy with his ASD/ADHD and is often open about his feelings towards people, especially new people most often than not he will say he doesn't like this person because of this or that, but he said he likes his tutor and wants to do more lessons which is brilliant. Mamun is always on time, very patient and explains thoroughly, he gives brilliant feedback afterwards too. Highly recommend this tutor and I'm glad I chose him rather than someone else.

Brilliant English tutors who you’ll really click with.
Our experienced tutors take the time to understand where each student needs to focus and their preferred way of learning. They make a measurable difference – 90% of all students improve by at least one grade.
My child is preparing for the 11+ for Stourbridge grammar schools. Can a tutor help with this?
Yes, absolutely. Many of our English tutors have specific experience with 11+ preparation, including verbal reasoning and creative writing. You can filter for tutors with this expertise and discuss your child's specific needs with them before booking.
We're aiming for top GCSE grades for Halesowen College. Can a tutor support this goal?
Definitely. Our tutors can create a learning plan focused on the specific requirements of the GCSE English curriculum. They can help your child master key texts, refine their essay technique, and build the confidence needed to achieve the grades required for their desired A-Level courses.
How do I choose the right English tutor for my child?
You can watch introductory videos, read reviews from other parents, and check each tutor's qualifications and experience. We recommend messaging a few tutors to discuss your child's goals before you book your first session to ensure you find the perfect match.
How do online lessons work?
Our lessons take place in a purpose-built online classroom with video chat, an interactive whiteboard, and document sharing. It’s a secure and engaging space where your child can learn comfortably from home. All you need is a laptop or computer with a stable internet connection.
Are your tutors background-checked?
Yes, your child's safety is our top priority. All our tutors are ID and background-checked. We are very selective, accepting only 1 in every 8 tutors who apply, so you can have complete peace of mind.
What if my child doesn't click with their first tutor?
We know that the right fit is important. That's why we have our First Lesson Guarantee. If you don't get on with your tutor, email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover your first session with a new tutor.
How much does an online English tutor cost?
Our tutors set their own rates, so prices vary based on their experience and qualifications. You can easily see each tutor's price per hour on their profile, allowing you to find an expert who fits your budget.
How can tutoring help my child feel more confident?
One-to-one tutoring provides a safe space for your child to ask questions without fear of judgement. When a tutor focuses on their specific challenges and celebrates their small wins, your child's self-belief and enthusiasm for the subject can grow significantly.
How quickly will we see an improvement?
Every child learns at their own pace, but our tailored approach gets results. In fact, 90% of our students improve by at least one grade. The biggest change many parents notice first is a positive shift in their child's confidence and attitude towards learning.
Do you only offer academic subjects like English?
While we have thousands of academic tutors, we also offer support in a wide range of other skills. Whether your child wants to learn to play the guitar, get started with coding, or learn a new language for fun, you can find an expert tutor for them here.
What happens in a typical English tutoring session?
A session is shaped around your child's needs. It might start with a review of a tricky piece of homework, move on to practising a specific skill like analysing poetry, and finish by setting clear goals for the next lesson. It's always interactive and focused on your child.
How many lessons will my child need?
This depends entirely on your child's goals. Some students need a few sessions to prepare for an exam, while others benefit from weekly support throughout the school year. You can discuss this with your tutor, and there are no long-term commitments or contracts.
