John H
Experienced English Language tutor
Hi, I’m John, I’m 23 and I’m currently studying law at Demontfort University. I have been tutoring now for almost two years mainly in maths from KS1 up to GCSE and have developed the knowledge and skills to be able to tailor my lessons to best suit the student as no one style will work best for everyone. For example, some students may benefit from shorter lessons, some may benefit from taking the lessons at a much slower pace, some may prefer to just dive straight into questions and many other factors that we will be able to identify together and use to customise the lesson to best suit the stude...
Leigh worked with our teenage son to prepare for his English Language iGCSE. With only a short time before the exam, they quickly developed a constructive rapport. Leigh was quickly able to assess where our son ‘was at’ in terms of his readiness for that exam. Over just a few sessions, analysis and writing skills were imparted and developed that meant our son felt prepared. Moreover, our son so enjoyed the way Leigh worked and his obvious passion for and skills in language analysis, that he chose to continue language analysis sessions just for the fun of it once the exam was over. A comment our son has made more than once after a session is, ‘I just love learning!’ The exam was passed really well – the outcome we hoped would be possible – but more significantly, we are grateful for Leigh’s ability to really draw out and develop our son’s enjoyment of the English language.

Ihsanur R
Last Year I did not do well in English Language in which I had a Grade 3. With my November resits fast approaching I felt very privileged to have Ihsanur as my tutor. He was able to present lessons in a concise way which helped me understand what went well and what I needed to improve on.
After the November resits I managed to obtain a Grade 4 in English Language AQA. I would really recommend him for those taking the GCSE 2026 because he is committed and dedicated in order to achieve academic potential with pupils. Thanks again Ihsanur for the hard work you do.

Smita Paneru S
I can’t recommend Smita enough! After struggling and retaking my English Language exam twice before she’s the only tutor who has truly managed to teach me in a way that makes everything click. She explains things clearly and in a way that actually makes sense. Smita never made me feel judged for needing extra help. She is an genuinly an incredible tutor who genuinely cares about her students’ progress. I honestly wish I’d found her sooner! I can’t thank her enough for helping me. :)

Flora I
Flora has been helping Isla prepare for her English Literature and English Language GCSE exams. From the first lesson, Flora “clicked” with Isla and quickly understood her needs. She made Isla feel comfortable and pinpointed areas for development and was so supportive. Isla felt at ease and could ask questions knowing that the necessary time would be taken to help her understand. Flora was incredibly accommodating, adjusting lesson times and dates as needed. She was also very responsive to messages and promptly returned marked work, going above and beyond to support us. Isla’s work was annotated and marked, providing valuable feedback and areas for future focus, which has been invaluable. Flora’s passion for the subject shone through, thank you so much Flora!

Brilliant English Language tutors who you’ll really click with.
Our experienced tutors take the time to understand where each student needs to focus and their preferred way of learning. They make a measurable difference – 90% of all students improve by at least one grade.
My child is at a competitive Lincoln school and needs a grade 7-9 in English Language, not just a pass. Can online tutors help with this specific goal?
Absolutely. This is a common goal for families in Lincoln, and our tutors are experienced in helping students move from a solid pass to achieving top grades. They focus on the nuanced analytical, evaluation, and writing skills that examiners look for in the 7-9 grade boundaries, giving your child the tools to excel.
We're worried about the pathway to competitive universities like Lincoln or Nottingham. How does a top English Language grade help?
It's crucial. A high grade in English Language is a key indicator for universities that a student possesses strong critical thinking and communication skills. It demonstrates an ability to analyse complex information and construct coherent arguments – skills that are vital for success in almost any degree course.
Is online tutoring as effective as meeting a tutor in person?
Yes, and for many families, it's even better. It gives your child in Lincoln access to a much wider pool of top-tier tutors from across the UK, not just those who live locally. With features like interactive whiteboards and resource sharing, lessons are just as engaging, but with the added convenience of learning from home.
Can a tutor help my child connect with Lincolnshire's literary heritage, like Alfred Tennyson?
Yes, many of our English tutors love bringing local context into their lessons. Exploring the work of a figure like Tennyson can make the subject more tangible and inspiring for a student in Lincoln. It’s a fantastic way to show them that great literature is connected to places they know.
What if my child doesn't click with their first English Language tutor?
We know that the right personal connection is key. If the first session isn't a perfect fit, just email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk, and we will cover your first lesson with a new tutor. We're committed to helping you find the perfect match for your child.
Are your tutors qualified and background-checked?
Yes, completely. We take quality and safety very seriously. Every tutor is interviewed, background-checked, and vetted for their subject expertise. We're very selective and only accept 1 in every 8 tutors who apply, so you can be sure your child is learning from the best.
How do I find the right English Language tutor for my child?
You can use our search filters to find tutors based on their experience with specific key stages, exam boards, or even their teaching style. You can also watch their introductory videos and read reviews from other parents to get a real sense of their personality and approach before you book.
How much do online English Language lessons cost for a student in Lincoln?
Prices vary depending on the tutor's experience and qualifications, but you can see each tutor's hourly rate clearly on their profile. There are no hidden fees or contracts, so you have complete control and transparency over the cost.
My child needs help with a specific exam board like AQA. Can we find a specialist?
Definitely. Many of our tutors are specialists in particular exam boards, like AQA, Edexcel, or OCR. They understand the specific requirements of the syllabus, the style of questions, and what examiners are looking for. You can filter your search to find a tutor with the exact experience you need.
How quickly will we see an improvement?
Every child learns at their own pace, but the one-to-one focus makes a huge difference. Many parents tell us they see a boost in their child's confidence within just a few sessions. In fact, 90% of our students improve by at least one grade, sometimes more.
What does my child need for an online lesson?
It's very simple. All they need is a laptop or computer with a webcam and microphone, and a stable internet connection. Our platform has a built-in video classroom with an interactive whiteboard, so you don't need any special software.
Do you offer tutoring in subjects other than English Language?
Yes, we offer tutoring in over 300 subjects! Whether your child needs support in maths and science for their GCSEs, wants to learn a new language, or is interested in creative skills like music production or coding, we have expert tutors ready to help.
