Leigh H
Leigh worked with our teenage son to prepare for his English Language iGCSE. With only a short time before the exam, they quickly developed a constructive rapport. Leigh was quickly able to assess where our son ‘was at’ in terms of his readiness for that exam. Over just a few sessions, analysis and writing skills were imparted and developed that meant our son felt prepared. Moreover, our son so enjoyed the way Leigh worked and his obvious passion for and skills in language analysis, that he chose to continue language analysis sessions just for the fun of it once the exam was over. A comment our son has made more than once after a session is, ‘I just love learning!’ The exam was passed really well – the outcome we hoped would be possible – but more significantly, we are grateful for Leigh’s ability to really draw out and develop our son’s enjoyment of the English language.

Ihsanur R
Last Year I did not do well in English Language in which I had a Grade 3. With my November resits fast approaching I felt very privileged to have Ihsanur as my tutor. He was able to present lessons in a concise way which helped me understand what went well and what I needed to improve on.
After the November resits I managed to obtain a Grade 4 in English Language AQA. I would really recommend him for those taking the GCSE 2026 because he is committed and dedicated in order to achieve academic potential with pupils. Thanks again Ihsanur for the hard work you do.

Flora I
Flora has been helping Isla prepare for her English Literature and English Language GCSE exams. From the first lesson, Flora “clicked” with Isla and quickly understood her needs. She made Isla feel comfortable and pinpointed areas for development and was so supportive. Isla felt at ease and could ask questions knowing that the necessary time would be taken to help her understand. Flora was incredibly accommodating, adjusting lesson times and dates as needed. She was also very responsive to messages and promptly returned marked work, going above and beyond to support us. Isla’s work was annotated and marked, providing valuable feedback and areas for future focus, which has been invaluable. Flora’s passion for the subject shone through, thank you so much Flora!

Brilliant English Language tutors who you’ll really click with.
Our experienced tutors take the time to understand where each student needs to focus and their preferred way of learning. They make a measurable difference – 90% of all students improve by at least one grade.
My child is aiming for BHASVIC or Varndean. Can a tutor help them get the top GCSE English grades needed?
Absolutely. This is a common goal for families in Brighton, and our tutors are experienced in helping students move from a good grade to a great one. They can focus specifically on the analytical and argumentative skills needed to achieve the 7s, 8s, and 9s that make an application stand out for competitive sixth forms.
We're thinking about a humanities degree at the University of Sussex. How important is their GCSE English Language result?
It's incredibly important. A high grade in GCSE English Language is a key indicator of a student's ability to handle the reading, writing, and critical thinking required for degree-level study in subjects like Law, History, or English Literature. Securing a top grade now builds a strong foundation for their future university application.
How can an online tutor from another city understand the educational pressures in Brighton?
Whilst our tutors are UK-wide, they are experts in the national curriculum, GCSE and A-Level exam boards (like AQA and Edexcel). The challenge of securing top grades for competitive colleges is common across many areas, and our tutors specialise in the academic skills needed to succeed, wherever your child is based.
Is online tutoring as effective as in-person?
Yes, and for many families, it's even better. Online tutoring offers total convenience, fitting around your busy schedule without any travel. More importantly, it gives your child in Brighton access to the best subject specialists from across the UK, not just whoever happens to live locally. With interactive tools and focused one-to-one attention, it's a powerful way to learn.
What happens if my child doesn't click with their first tutor?
We know that the right fit is crucial for success. That's why we have our first lesson guarantee. If you don't get on with your first tutor for any reason, just email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover the cost of your first session with a new tutor.
How much do online English Language tutors cost?
Our English Language tutors set their own hourly rates, typically starting from £15 per hour. Prices vary based on the tutor's experience and level of study. You can browse profiles and filter by price to find the perfect tutor for your budget and your child's needs.
My child needs help with exam technique more than the content. Can a tutor help with that?
Definitely. Many students understand the material but struggle to show it under exam conditions. Our tutors are experts in teaching exam technique, from time management and structuring answers to understanding exactly what examiners are looking for. This can make a huge difference to their final grade.
How are your tutors vetted?
We're very selective and only accept 1 in 8 tutors who apply. Every tutor is interviewed by a member of our team, has their ID and qualifications verified, and must provide professional references. They also undergo a background check to ensure they are safe to work with children.
Do you offer tutoring for subjects other than English?
Yes, we offer tutoring in over 300 subjects. From core academic subjects like maths and science to languages, coding, music, and even life skills, we can help your child explore their passions and build new skills with expert online tutors.
How long are the tutoring sessions and how often should they be?
Sessions are typically one hour long. Most students have one session per week, as this provides consistency and momentum. However, this is completely flexible and you can arrange a schedule that works best for your child and your family with your chosen tutor.
What technology do we need for online lessons?
It's very simple. All you need is a laptop or computer with a webcam and microphone, and a stable internet connection. Our custom-built online classroom has all the tools your child needs, including an interactive whiteboard, video chat, and document sharing.
Can tutoring help my child if they find English boring?
A great tutor can completely change a student's perception of a subject. By connecting texts to your child's interests, building their confidence, and celebrating their progress, a tutor can make English feel relevant, engaging, and even exciting.
