Ihsanur R
Last Year I did not do well in English Language in which I had a Grade 3. With my November resits fast approaching I felt very privileged to have Ihsanur as my tutor. He was able to present lessons in a concise way which helped me understand what went well and what I needed to improve on.
After the November resits I managed to obtain a Grade 4 in English Language AQA. I would really recommend him for those taking the GCSE 2026 because he is committed and dedicated in order to achieve academic potential with pupils. Thanks again Ihsanur for the hard work you do.

I can’t recommend Smita enough! After struggling and retaking my English Language exam twice before she’s the only tutor who has truly managed to teach me in a way that makes everything click. She is an genuinly an incredible tutor who genuinely cares about her students’ progress. I honestly wish I’d found her sooner! I can’t thank her enough for helping me. :)

Flora I
Flora has been helping Isla prepare for her English Literature and English Language GCSE exams. From the first lesson, Flora “clicked” with Isla and quickly understood her needs. She made Isla feel comfortable and pinpointed areas for development and was so supportive. Isla felt at ease and could ask questions knowing that the necessary time would be taken to help her understand. Flora was incredibly accommodating, adjusting lesson times and dates as needed. She was also very responsive to messages and promptly returned marked work, going above and beyond to support us. Isla’s work was annotated and marked, providing valuable feedback and areas for future focus, which has been invaluable. Flora’s passion for the subject shone through, thank you so much Flora!

Jessica C
Our son has had four lessons in English Language and English Literature with Jessica so far, as he’s sitting his GCSEs this year. It’s clear Jessica has a strong background and is truly in the right profession—she knows exactly what’s needed and structures each lesson to cover any gaps. She explains everything clearly, focuses on exam technique, and is patient and supportive. Our son enjoys the lessons and already feels more confident. We’re planning to continue and are very glad to have Jessica as his tutor. We highly recommend her!

Brilliant English Language tutors who you’ll really click with.
Our experienced tutors take the time to understand where each student needs to focus and their preferred way of learning. They make a measurable difference – 90% of all students improve by at least one grade.
My child attends a school in Watford. How can an online tutor align with their specific curriculum?
Absolutely. Our tutors are experts in the UK national curriculum, including GCSE and A-Level specifications for exam boards like AQA and Edexcel. During your first session, the tutor will discuss what your child is studying at their Watford school to create a tailored plan that complements their classwork and targets their specific needs.
We live in Hertfordshire and are thinking about grammar schools. Can a tutor help with the English part of the 11+?
Yes, many of our tutors specialise in 11+ preparation. They can provide targeted support for the English and Verbal Reasoning components of the entrance exams common in Hertfordshire, helping your child build both the skills and the confidence needed.
Is online tutoring as effective as meeting a tutor in person?
We believe it’s even better. Online tutoring offers access to a much wider pool of specialist tutors from across the UK, not just those who happen to live near Watford. With interactive tools like whiteboards and resource sharing, lessons are just as engaging, plus they offer the flexibility and convenience of learning from home.
What happens if my child doesn't click with their first English Language tutor?
Finding the right personality match is crucial, and we want you both to feel comfortable. If it's not a perfect fit after the first session, just email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover the cost of your first lesson with a new tutor.
How are your tutors vetted?
We're very selective because your child's education is so important. We only accept 1 in 8 tutors who apply. Every tutor is interviewed by a member of our team, has their ID verified, and undergoes a background check to ensure they are the best of the best.
My child loves writing stories. Do you offer creative writing tutoring too?
Yes, we do! Tutoring isn't just for curriculum support. We have many tutors who are passionate about creative writing, poetry, and public speaking. They can help your child explore their creativity and develop their unique writing style beyond their schoolwork.
What do we need for an online lesson to work?
It's very simple. All you need is a laptop or computer with a webcam and microphone, and a stable internet connection. Our platform is browser-based, so there's no complicated software to download. It's designed to be as easy as a video call.
How do I find the right English Language tutor for my child in Watford?
You can use the search filters on our site to find tutors who specialise in the right level, from Primary up to A-Level and beyond. You can read their profiles, watch their intro videos, and check reviews from other parents to find the perfect match for your child's needs and personality.
How much do online English Language lessons cost?
Prices vary depending on the tutor's experience and the level of study. Each tutor sets their own hourly rate, which is clearly displayed on their profile. This transparency allows you to find an excellent tutor who also fits your family's budget.
Can tutoring help my child with analysing poetry for their GCSEs?
Definitely. Poetry analysis is a common area where students need extra support. A specialist tutor can work one-to-one with your child, breaking down difficult poems, explaining literary devices, and building their confidence in articulating their interpretations.
How flexible is the scheduling?
Extremely flexible. You and your tutor agree on lesson times that work for you both. Because our tutors are based across the UK, you have a wider range of availability, making it easy to schedule sessions around school, clubs, and family commitments.
How do I know if my child is making progress?
Your tutor will provide regular feedback on your child's development. You can also message your tutor at any time to discuss progress. The biggest sign, however, is often the change you'll see in your child – in their confidence, their attitude towards English, and the quality of their schoolwork.
