Kathy F
Creative Writing tutor
I am a Royal Holloway, University London graduate with a BA and MA, specialising in arts and humanities. I am very keen to help pupils to learn and fully understand what they might not get in a classroom environment. Whilst at school and even at university, I had one-on-one help and I would not have got the grades if it was not for this extra help. That is why I want to help those who may need the extra help to get the grades they want.I did my A levels at a school as opposed to a college and this gave me the experience to work with the lower parts of the school (junior and senior). I would help...

Roxy has been an absolutely wonderful tutor. She is warm, very engaging, and clearly highly competent. Our son genuinely loved his lessons with her and always looked forward to them, which says a lot. We could see his confidence grow, and his writing abilities improved noticeably over a short period of time. Roxy has a fantastic way of connecting with children while still challenging them and helping them make real progress. We are incredibly grateful for her support and would highly recommend her to any parent.

Matthew has been amazing with my son is building his confidence in his KS3 English & Creative Writing by skills. My son has ASD/PDA and is currently in home education, so I needed a patient and understanding tutor, who could also encourage my son and help him develop his existing writing skills / text. Feedback from my son is that Matthew is really knowledgable and is great at moving him beyond his comfort zone!

Ifa M
Life changing experience!
I would like to express my appreciation for Ifa’s exceptional teaching skills in helping my son learn English. Ifa brings a wonderful combination of fun, knowledge, and experience to every lesson, making the learning process both enjoyable and highly effective. She engages with my son attentively throughout the entire session, ensuring that he remains focused and motivated without even realising how much he’s learning.
What truly stands out is Ifa’s ability to explain complex concepts in a way that my son immediately grasps. No other teacher has been able to reach him as clearly as Ifa has, and I was genuinely impressed by how quickly he picked up many ideas he had previously struggled with.
Not only has my son made tremendous progress, but I’ve also learned from Ifa. She has shown me the best ways to support my son’s learning journey, tailored specifically to his individual needs. Her guidance has been invaluable, and I’m grateful for the positive impact she’s had on both of us.
Thank you, Ifa!

Brilliant Writing tutors who you’ll really click with.
Our experienced tutors take the time to understand where each student needs to focus and their preferred way of learning. They make a measurable difference – 90% of all students improve by at least one grade.
My child hopes to study at South Tyneside College. Can a tutor help them get the right GCSE grades?
Absolutely. Our tutors are experienced in helping students meet the entry requirements for college. They can focus specifically on the writing skills needed to strengthen your child's GCSE performance, particularly in subjects like English. We've seen that our support can help students improve their GCSE results by up to two grades.
We're aiming for a competitive university like Durham or Newcastle. How can a writing tutor support this long-term goal?
That's a fantastic goal. A writing tutor can help build the foundational analytical and essay-writing skills in their GCSE and A-Level years that are essential for university-level study. They can also provide invaluable support when it comes to drafting a compelling personal statement for their UCAS application.
How do I choose the right writing tutor for my child?
It's all about finding the right fit for your child's personality and learning needs. You can read detailed tutor profiles, watch introductory videos, and check reviews from other parents. We recommend messaging a few tutors to discuss your child's goals before booking to ensure you find the perfect match.
What if my child doesn't click with their first tutor?
We know how important the student-tutor relationship is. That's why we have our first lesson guarantee. If you don't get on with your tutor, email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover your first session with a new tutor.
How does online tutoring work?
It's simple and effective. All lessons take place in our purpose-built online classroom, which features a video chat, an interactive whiteboard, and the ability to share documents. All your child needs is a laptop or computer with a webcam and a stable internet connection.
How much do online writing tutors cost?
Prices vary depending on the tutor's experience and qualifications. Tutors set their own hourly rates, and you can easily filter your search by price to find an expert who fits your family's budget. There are no hidden fees or long-term commitments.
Are the tutors properly vetted?
Yes, your child's safety is our top priority. We interview every tutor and they must all have a valid DBS check. We are very selective, accepting only 1 in every 8 tutors who apply, so you can have complete peace of mind.
How quickly can we see an improvement in my child's writing?
Every child learns at their own pace, but our tailored, one-to-one approach is designed for progress. Many parents tell us they see a boost in their child's confidence after just a few sessions. In fact, 90% of our students improve by at least one grade.
Can a tutor help my child with their confidence, not just their grades?
Definitely. For many children, a lack of confidence is the biggest barrier to learning. Our tutors are brilliant at creating a positive and encouraging environment where your child feels safe to make mistakes and ask questions, which is often the key to unlocking their potential.
What happens in a typical writing lesson?
Every lesson is tailored to your child. A session might involve working through a school assignment, practising exam techniques for a specific GCSE question, or focusing on a core skill like structuring paragraphs or improving vocabulary. The tutor will adapt the lesson to whatever your child needs most.
Is this just for school subjects, or can my child learn skills like creative writing?
We offer tutoring in over 300 subjects, well beyond the school curriculum. So, yes, if your child wants to explore creative writing, learn a new language, or even pick up skills like coding or playing the guitar, we have expert tutors who can help them pursue their passions.
Are the tutors properly vetted?
The standard session length is one hour, which we find works perfectly for keeping students engaged and focused. However, you can discuss your needs directly with your tutor, as many are happy to offer longer or shorter sessions if that works better for your child.
