I have over 30 years experience of balancing a career in research and teaching. This means I can teach fundamentals, but importantly, I can illustrate my teaching with many examples of relevant practical applications of science and mathematics. I have lectured to, tutored and supervised students in many subjects, in the UK and abroad, including in Thailand and extensively in India. My innovative teaching methods have been praised by reviewers and, most importantly, by the students themselves, who have consistently provided me with good feedback. My speciality is in using my engineering background...

Michael B
Friendly, enthusiastic Science Tutor
I absolutely love what I do, and channel that enthusiasm within each of my lessons. I believe a child can very easily see if a teacher is passionate about what they are teaching, which is why I believe only those who absolutely love their profession should teach. I want to provide the most engaging and challenging lesson for myself, because I hold very high standards for my quality of work, but more importantly, for the child. I want a child to leave each session safe in the knowledge that they have learnt something new that day.I like to approach each session differently, learning what interests...
Sam has been truly inspirational for our son, Chester. He really wants to study triple Science for GCSES and struggles with remembering so much information and confidence. Our son is dyslexic and has dyspraxia and constantly struggles with reading accurately and using scientific vocabulary. Sam has so much experience in these areas and has spent time building Chester’s confidence so he can access Physics, Biology and Chemistry successfully. It is giving Chester time to revisit lessons that he feels he needs more time on, as well as practise more challenging skills. Sam has shown extensive knowledge not only in his subjects but also with learning challenges and special educational needs. We cannot thank Sam enough and plan to continue with Chester’s twice weekly lessons. His success has continued with amazing lesson reviews and also the results of Chester’s recent year 10 mock exams. Thank you Sam.

Rai S
Incredible! It’s fair to say that science was never one of my sons favourite subjects. My son has only had a few lessons with Rai so far but we are making it regular to support his GCSE exams.
Rai’s sessions are full of energy and my son has so much more confidence and loves the way Rai explains things. He has already learnt so much!
I would absolutely recommend!

Khaledur R
Khaledur worked as a part-time Governor for my son, HR, from Year 9, supporting him in Maths and Science up to and including GCSE. He focused on developing conceptual understanding, mathematical reasoning, and scientific problem-solving through conversation and guided exploration. This approach helped my son become more confident and independent in his studies.

Alan H
I wanted to share how much we appreciate the extra GCSE Science lessons Alan has been providing. My son has mentioned that the sessions are giving him a really solid understanding of the sciences, especially chemistry, which is helping him a lot with his revision. The one-on-one format is making a big difference—he finds it much easier to concentrate and is learning far more effectively. He’s even remembering things better, which shows how impactful Alan's teaching has been. Thank you for your dedication and support; it’s clearly making a positive difference.

Brilliant Science tutors who you’ll really click with.
Our experienced tutors take the time to understand where each student needs to focus and their preferred way of learning. They make a measurable difference – 90% of all students improve by at least one grade.
My child attends Anthony Gell School. Can a tutor help them get the GCSE grades needed for the A-Level science pathway?
Absolutely. Many of our tutors specialise in helping students secure top GCSE grades. They can work with your child to strengthen their understanding of core topics in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, specifically focusing on the skills needed to excel and meet the requirements for A-Level study.
We're hoping our child will study a STEM subject at a university like Sheffield or Nottingham. Can a tutor support this long-term goal?
Yes, they can. Our tutors can help build the strong foundational knowledge at GCSE and A-Level that's crucial for competitive university applications. They can also act as mentors, offering advice on study skills and helping your child develop the confidence to aim high.
How do I choose the right Science tutor for my child?
You can read detailed tutor profiles, watch introductory videos, and check reviews from other parents. We recommend messaging a few tutors to discuss your child's needs before booking. It's all about finding someone your child connects with.
What happens if we don't click with the first tutor?
We want to make sure you find the perfect match for your child. That's why we have our First Lesson Guarantee. If you don't get on with your tutor for any reason, just email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover your first session with a new tutor.
How do online lessons work?
Our lessons take place in a purpose-built online classroom with video chat, an interactive whiteboard, and document sharing. All your child needs is a laptop or computer with a webcam, a microphone, and a stable internet connection.
How can a tutor help my child if they've lost confidence in Science?
Confidence is key. Our tutors provide a patient, encouraging, and non-judgmental space for your child to ask questions. By breaking down difficult topics into smaller, manageable steps, they help your child experience 'lightbulb moments' that rebuild their self-belief.
How much does an online Science tutor cost?
Prices vary depending on the tutor's experience and qualifications. You can see each tutor's hourly rate clearly on their profile, so you can find an expert who fits your budget. There are no hidden fees or long-term contracts.
Are your tutors background-checked?
Yes, your child's safety is our top priority. All our tutors undergo a thorough vetting process, including an identity and background check. We are very selective, accepting only 1 in 8 tutors who apply to join our platform.
Do you only offer academic subjects, or can my child learn other skills?
We offer a huge range of subjects and skills! Beyond core academic support in subjects like Science and Maths, you can find expert tutors for everything from learning the guitar and music theory to practical skills like coding and Python.
Can a tutor help my child with their exam technique?
Definitely. A tutor can teach your child how to understand what exam questions are really asking, manage their time effectively, and structure their answers to earn maximum marks. This is often just as important as knowing the subject content.
What qualifications do your Science tutors have?
Our tutors come from a wide range of backgrounds, including experienced teachers, university lecturers, and subject matter experts. You can view each tutor's specific qualifications, experience, and teaching style on their profile to find the best fit for your child.
How long are the tutoring sessions and how often should we have them?
Typically, sessions are one hour long and take place weekly, which we find is most effective for consistent progress. However, the frequency is completely flexible and can be arranged directly with your chosen tutor to fit your family's schedule and your child's needs.
