I am not a natural reviewer of persons or services...but I will do my best. My 15 year old daughter is Grade 8 standard and has several complex pieces to work on over the summer break and to help her with this, we booked Rory.
Rory is a great tutor, as a teacher myself, I was impressed by his compliments on her progress so far after he had heard her play, but at the same time by how he quickly and precisely moved to key points where she could realistically improve without over-burdening her. He is charming and funny and put her at her ease.
I was delighted with the lesson and the set up, with a grand piano and an upright in the same teaching space which enabled Rory to play extracts from the piece for my daughter to hear and respond to, and a comfy couch for me. As a non-musician I found the progression of the lesson very interesting. As for my daughter, a few days later she played the introduction to the piece 'how I used to play it...' and then 'how I play it now after Rory's lesson...' - and even my cloth ears could discern the subtle differences!
