I started working with Jamie 4 months ago when I was struggling with A-Level photography. He is incredibly supportive and clear in aspects that I could improve on to meet exam criteria and his dedication towards helping me to improve is extremely evident. I have weekly sessions with Jamie and he has always been very flexible. These weekly sessions have always been tailored to my needs and what I feel will benefit me the most. His feedback is always specific and his guidance has allowed me to secure a top grade in my January mocks. I would highly recommend Jamie to anyone needing support or wanting to push their coursework further.

Clara C
Clara is a really great teacher for Photography A Level. My daughter needed help with the essay part of her course. I knew she would be good when I read about her experience but she has a lovely manner and way of teaching as well. Clara was also equally as good when she needed help with her Art A-Level essay.

Brilliant Photography tutors who you’ll really click with.
Our experienced tutors take the time to understand where each student needs to focus and their preferred way of learning. They make a measurable difference – 90% of all students improve by at least one grade.
My child wants to study art at Stoke-on-Trent Sixth Form College. Can a tutor help build their photography portfolio?
Absolutely. This is one of the key areas where our tutors excel. They can act as a mentor, helping your child develop a theme, curate their best work, and present a portfolio that demonstrates both technical skill and creative vision, specifically for applications to local colleges and universities.
We're worried focusing on photography might be a risk compared to 'safer' academic subjects. How can tutoring help?
We completely understand that concern. A great tutor helps show how creative skills are valuable career assets. They'll build your child's confidence and technique in photography whilst also developing transferable skills like project management, critical thinking, and visual communication, making them a stronger candidate all-round.
Is online tutoring effective for a practical subject like photography?
Yes, it works incredibly well. Tutors use screen sharing to give real-time feedback on editing software, analyse photos together in detail, and share inspirational resources. It allows for a very focused and analytical approach that helps students improve their technique and creative eye.
What if my child doesn't click with their first photography tutor?
Finding the right mentor is essential. If the first session isn't a perfect fit, please email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk. We will happily cover the cost of your first lesson with an alternative tutor to ensure you find the right match.
What equipment does my child need for online photography lessons?
Most students start with a DSLR or a mirrorless camera, but tutors can work with whatever camera your child has, even a good smartphone. The most important things are a willingness to learn and a reliable internet connection for the video call.
How do you match my child with the right photography tutor for their interests?
You can browse tutor profiles, read reviews from other parents, and watch their introductory videos to get a feel for their style. You can also message tutors beforehand to discuss your child's specific goals, whether it's landscape, portrait, or street photography.
Are your photography tutors professional photographers or qualified teachers?
Our tutors come from a range of backgrounds. Many are professional photographers with years of industry experience, whilst others are qualified teachers with a passion for the arts. We only accept 1 in 8 tutors who apply, ensuring your child learns from a true expert.
How will I know if my child is making real progress?
Progress in photography is wonderfully visual! You'll see it in the quality of their photos and their growing portfolio. Tutors also provide regular feedback, and you'll notice your child talking more confidently about concepts like composition, lighting, and editing.
How much do online photography lessons cost for a student in Stoke-on-Trent?
Our tutors set their own hourly rates, which are displayed clearly on their profiles. This allows you to find an experienced, five-star tutor whose lessons fit within your family's budget. There are no hidden fees or long-term commitments.
My child is also interested in Graphic Design. Do you have tutors for other creative subjects?
Yes, we do! We have expert online tutors across a huge range of subjects, including Graphic Design, Fine Art, Music, and Drama. We believe in nurturing all kinds of talents, not just the traditionally academic ones.
Do you offer photography tutoring for all levels?
Definitely. Whether your child is a complete beginner who's just got their first camera or an A-Level student looking to refine their portfolio for university, we have tutors with the right experience to support them.
Are your photography tutors professional photographers or qualified teachers?
That's a key benefit of online tutoring. You're not restricted to local tutors' schedules. You can find a top UK tutor who offers sessions at times that fit around your commitments, whether that's evenings, weekends, or during school holidays.
