Maths Maths
I have been teaching for the past 12 years and have had a GCSE group year in and year out. I have a record of amazing results especially with new spec which students find particularly difficult. My teaching style is relating stuff to real life so students can easily remember concepts next time. Also, repetition is so paramount when it comes to Maths as practise is the only way you can secure any knowledge.Whatever the topic you are struggling with I have got different ways of explaining it till we get to the point where you actually understand everything. I would also be bringing my personal resources...

Jack R
We’ve had a fantastic experience with Jack as a maths tutor - so far my daughter had three sessions with him. Jack is an excellent communicator and explains concepts clearly and step-by-step, making even the all topics feel manageable. His lessons are well-structured and thoughtfully tailored to my daughter’s needs (we aim for confidence in class and confident GCSE mark).
Jack is also incredibly friendly and positive, which creates a really encouraging learning environment - one of my key requirements. My daughter genuinely enjoys her lessons with him and is already feeling much more confident in her maths curriculum. Highly recommended!

Brilliant Maths tutors who you’ll really click with.
Our experienced tutors take the time to understand where each student needs to focus and their preferred way of learning. They make a measurable difference – 90% of all students improve by at least one grade.
My child is worried about getting the grades for a competitive A-Level Maths course in Wakefield. Can a tutor help?
Absolutely. This is a common goal for many families we support. A tutor can work with your child to fill any knowledge gaps, strengthen their understanding of core topics, and build the exam technique needed to achieve the high GCSE grades required for A-Level entry at local sixth forms.
We're aiming for a STEM degree at a university like Leeds or York. Can a tutor support this goal?
Yes. Our tutors can help your child build the strong mathematical foundation essential for demanding STEM and Economics degrees. They can focus on the specific A-Level topics that universities value most, helping your child feel prepared and confident in their university application.
How do I choose the right Maths tutor for my child?
It's all about finding the right fit. You can read detailed tutor profiles, check their experience, and see reviews from other parents. We recommend messaging a few tutors to discuss your child's needs before booking. Many also offer a free 15-minute chat to get to know them first.
What if my child doesn't click with their first tutor?
We know that the right student-tutor relationship is key to success. That's why we have our First Lesson Guarantee. If you don't get on with your tutor, email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover your first session with a new tutor.
How much does online Maths tutoring cost?
Our tutors set their own prices based on their experience, typically ranging from £25 to £50 per hour. You can easily filter by price on our search page to find a brilliant tutor who fits your family's budget. There are no hidden fees or contracts.
How does online tutoring actually work?
It's simple! All lessons take place in our online classroom, which features a video chat, an interactive whiteboard, and the ability to share documents. It’s a secure and effective way for your child to learn one-to-one with their tutor from the comfort of home.
Are your tutors background-checked?
Yes, your child's safety is our top priority. All our tutors are ID and background checked. We are very selective, and only 1 in 8 tutors who apply are accepted onto our platform, so you can be sure your child is in safe, expert hands.
How can tutoring help if my child has lost their confidence in Maths?
Confidence is just as important as knowledge. A private tutor provides a safe, encouraging space where your child can ask questions without feeling embarrassed. By breaking down difficult topics and celebrating small wins, a tutor can help rebuild their self-belief, which often has a huge impact on their results.
How long are the tutoring sessions?
The standard session length is one hour, which we find works best for maintaining focus and making real progress. However, you can always discuss different lesson lengths with your tutor to find what works best for your child.
How often should my child have a lesson?
Most families opt for one session per week to build momentum and ensure consistent progress. However, the frequency is completely up to you and can be adjusted based on your child's needs, such as increasing sessions in the run-up to exams.
Can tutoring really help my child get a top GCSE Maths grade?
Yes, it can make a significant difference. 90% of our students improve by at least one grade, and for GCSEs, we often see students improve their results by up to two grades. This boost can be crucial for securing a place on their desired A-Level course.
Is this just for school subjects, or can my child learn skills like coding or guitar?
We offer tutoring in over 300 subjects! While we have experts for academic subjects like Maths and English, your child can also learn practical skills like coding or a new language, or even explore a passion like playing the guitar or singing. It's all about changing lives through learning, whatever the subject.
