I hold a PhD in Physics from Brown University and a BSc in Physics from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. As I sat HKDSE in its second year, when past paper and study resources were limited, I relied extensively on and familiarised myself with GCSE and A-Level materials during my own...

Carole G
Professional Maths tutor
Hi, my name is Carole. I worked as a primary school teacher for 19 years and I have been tutoring children from reception to year 8, mainly online, since February 2020. I have worked with many children, helping them to achieve success in SATs, school entrance exams or to gain increased confidence and enjoyment of their subjects in school. I had some recent feedback from a parent, stating that their child had "gone from being scared of maths (and trying to hide it by saying maths is boring) to loving it!" Some of my current students have worked with me for several years, continuing after primary...

John H
Experienced Maths tutor
Hi, I’m John, I’m 23 and I’m currently studying law at Demontfort University. I have been tutoring now for almost two years mainly in maths from KS1 up to GCSE and have developed the knowledge and skills to be able to tailor my lessons to best suit the student as no one style will work best for everyone. For example, some students may benefit from shorter lessons, some may benefit from taking the lessons at a much slower pace, some may prefer to just dive straight into questions and many other factors that we will be able to identify together and use to customise the lesson to best suit the stude...

Hemananda (ravi) N
Ravi has been preparing my daughter for A-level Maths (Statistics and Mechanics) for past few months, so it is solid review on his longer term performance. Ravi is well familiarised with ciruculum and exam questions & techniques. He knows what to teach and how to teach. A level Maths concepts can be challenging and hard to be grasped, but that my daughter enjoys lessons Maths with Ravi - it says a lot. Ravi has individual approach to student and not only cares about student's understanding of the topic but also is very effective and 'tutor skillful' in making one to understand. Communication with Ravi is easy and flowing, it easy to discuss arrangements with him and he replies quickly. Standard of his lessons is very high, not only academicaly but also in delievery: he is punctual, no last moment cancellations, if necessary rearranges lessons with good time notice, he is ALWAYS well prepared and very student-focused. Moreover, each lesson is followed by homework to enhance understanding of the topic. I hardly write reviews but I would commit unjustice not leaving one for Ravi. He is trully exeptional teacher.

Steven B
We've only had a few sessions so far, but we've been really pleased. My kids maths teacher has noticed a marked uplift in ability and engagement which I put down to an increasing understanding of the fundamentals, that he wouldn't have otherwise. Steven is always quick to respond, and flexible. My kid reports Steven is cheerful and patient. Steven was clear from the first session on the likely challenges and focus areas. Would recommend;

My son’s grades have increased while with him and I feel he helped my son with thinking skills as well as the actual concepts of Maths. He’s been our favourite tutor so far that we’ve had. Thank you Derek 🙏

Joseph I
Joseph has made a powerful impact on my son’s confidence and performance in GCSE Maths. His sessions are focused, precise, and entirely exam-driven. He works directly with past papers, marking schemes, and timing strategies, ensuring that every minute is purposeful and aligned with exam success.
What truly sets Joseph apart is his ability to make complex exam expectations feel clear and manageable. My son leaves each session energised, confident, and believing in his ability. That shift in mindset has been just as important as the technical improvement.
Joseph is calm, direct, and exceptionally effective at breaking things down into clear steps. He creates an environment where my son feels understood and capable, which has translated into stronger performance under pressure.
We are incredibly grateful for his support during this critical GCSE period and would highly recommend him to any student who needs structured, high-level exam preparation delivered with clarity and professionalism.

Adrian P
We are incredibly grateful for Adrian’s support. From the very first session, he made a significant difference. My son came out saying, “So I’m not stupid,” which shows how powerful that first experience was. Adrian helped him understand in one session what he had struggled to grasp over the previous six months at school.
Since starting with Adrian, my son has moved from a grade 1 to a grade 4 in Maths within three months, with just one and a half hours of tutoring per week. That progress speaks for itself.
Adrian is structured, clear, and focused. He explains concepts in a way that builds both understanding and confidence. My son feels capable in his sessions and leaves feeling empowered rather than overwhelmed.
We are continuing with Adrian and would highly recommend him to anyone looking for effective, exam-focused maths support delivered with professionalism and consistency.

Brilliant Maths tutors who you’ll really click with.
Our experienced tutors take the time to understand where each student needs to focus and their preferred way of learning. They make a measurable difference – 90% of all students improve by at least one grade.
Can a tutor help my child get the grades needed for Blackpool Sixth Form or Cardinal Newman College?
Absolutely. Many of our tutors are experts in the GCSE curriculum and understand the grade requirements for competitive colleges. They can focus on the specific topics and exam techniques your child needs to master to aim for those top grades like a 7 or 8, giving them the best possible chance of securing their place.
My child's school sets a high standard. Can tutors match that level?
Yes. We have a wide range of highly qualified tutors, including many with experience helping students from high-achieving schools. You can view each tutor's profile to see their qualifications, experience, and reviews from other parents to find someone who is the perfect fit to support and challenge your child.
How do I choose the right Maths tutor for my child?
You can read detailed profiles for each tutor, which include their experience, qualifications, teaching style, and reviews from other parents. We recommend shortlisting a few and sending them a message to ask about their approach to helping students with GCSE Maths. It’s all about finding someone your child will connect with.
What happens if we don't click with the first tutor?
We know that finding the right personality match is key. That's why we have our First Lesson Guarantee. If you feel the first tutor isn't the right fit for your child, just email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover the cost of your first session with a new tutor.
How can tutoring help if my child has lost their confidence in Maths?
Confidence is often the biggest barrier to progress in Maths. A one-to-one tutor creates a safe, patient environment where your child can ask questions without feeling embarrassed. By breaking down difficult topics and celebrating small wins, they help rebuild that self-belief, which makes a huge difference to their results.
Are the tutors background-checked?
Yes, your child's safety is our top priority. Every single one of our tutors undergoes a thorough vetting process, including an ID and background check. We are very selective, accepting only 1 in 8 tutors who apply to join our platform.
How much does an online Maths tutor cost?
Prices vary depending on the tutor's experience and qualifications. You can see each tutor's hourly rate clearly on their profile, so you can find someone who fits your budget. There are no hidden fees or long-term contracts.
What happens in an online Maths lesson?
Our online classroom has everything your child needs for a great lesson, including an interactive whiteboard, video chat, and file sharing. A tutor might work through past paper questions, explain a tricky concept using diagrams on the whiteboard, or help your child structure their revision. It's a live, one-to-one session tailored to what your child needs that day.
Can a tutor help with specific parts of the GCSE Maths syllabus?
Yes, absolutely. That’s one of the main benefits of one-to-one tutoring. If your child is finding algebra particularly difficult or needs to focus on trigonometry before an exam, their tutor can dedicate entire sessions to that specific area until your child feels confident.
How do I know if my child is making progress?
Tutors will provide regular feedback on how your child is doing. You'll also see it in your child's growing confidence and their improved results in school tests. You can message your tutor at any time to discuss their progress and goals.
Do you only offer academic subjects, or can my child learn other skills?
We offer tutoring in over 300 subjects! While we're here to help with core academic subjects from the 11+ to degree level, we also have fantastic tutors who can teach skills like coding, learning the guitar, a new language, or even public speaking.
How long is a typical tutoring session?
Most sessions are one hour long, as this is usually the perfect amount of time to dive into a topic without your child losing focus. However, you can discuss and agree on session length directly with your chosen tutor to find what works best.
