Deepening mathematical understanding: from building foundational basics to guiding exceptional talent to truly flourish.I am a highly motivated and capable mathematics graduate of the University of Cambridge and the University of Warwick working full-time as a maths tutor, teaching mostly A/AS Level, STEP, and MAT with some GCSE. I get along well with students using a friendly enthusiastic manner and patient guidance, allowing me to engage them in a subject that many (sadly) find difficult or tedious to deal with. I’ve had significant success helping students to see why this subject is exciting a...

I have also helped out summer school students, hence I consider myself having a variety of experience when it comes to tutoring. Experienced Maths and Science Tutor Maths and Science
I enjoy Mathematics greatly, having studied both Maths and Further Maths at A-Level, also while I was at sixth form I took part in working as a classroom assistant in Year 8 Maths lessons, which gave me valuable experience at teaching students. I took part in another programme which taught the elderly how to be computer literate, these two experiences have given me very different skills to utilise whilst teaching. In my experience as a one-on-one tutor I have usually found my best strategy is to utilise examples, both ones I work through myself and others I assist my students in working through,...

Enthusiastic Maths tutor
I have over 30 years experience of balancing a career in research and teaching. This means I can teach fundamentals, but importantly, I can illustrate my teaching with many examples of relevant practical applications of science and mathematics. I have lectured to, tutored and supervised students in many subjects, in the UK and abroad, including in Thailand and extensively in India. My innovative teaching methods have been praised by reviewers and, most importantly, by the students themselves, who have consistently provided me with good feedback. My speciality is in using my engineering background...
Chris has really helped me so far in year 13 with maths. He explains and breaks down difficult concepts in a way that is easy to understand and goes through exam questions which is very useful. I would really recommend him to other A level maths students.

Jack R
We’ve had a fantastic experience with Jack as a maths tutor - so far my daughter had three sessions with him. Jack is an excellent communicator and explains concepts clearly and step-by-step, making even the all topics feel manageable. His lessons are well-structured and thoughtfully tailored to my daughter’s needs (we aim for confidence in class and confident GCSE mark).
Jack is also incredibly friendly and positive, which creates a really encouraging learning environment - one of my key requirements. My daughter genuinely enjoys her lessons with him and is already feeling much more confident in her maths curriculum. Highly recommended!

Brilliant Maths tutors who you’ll really click with.
Our experienced tutors take the time to understand where each student needs to focus and their preferred way of learning. They make a measurable difference – 90% of all students improve by at least one grade.
My child wants to study Maths at a competitive sixth form like Hills Road. Can a tutor help them prepare?
Absolutely. Our tutors are experienced in helping students aim high. They can work with your child to strengthen their core knowledge, master advanced topics, and build the problem-solving skills needed to meet the entry requirements for demanding A-Level courses.
With so much competition for STEM careers in the Cambridge area, how can a tutor give my child an advantage?
A great tutor can help your child develop a much deeper understanding of Maths that goes beyond just passing exams. They build confidence and curiosity, teaching skills that are highly valued in STEM fields. This solid foundation helps them stand out in college and university applications, and prepares them for the challenges of a competitive career.
How do I choose the right Maths tutor for my child?
It's all about finding the right fit. You can read detailed tutor profiles, watch introductory videos, and check reviews from other parents. We recommend messaging a few tutors to discuss your child's specific needs before booking. Finding someone your child connects with is key to their success.
How can a tutor help my child if they're already doing well but need to reach a grade 8 or 9?
Pushing for the highest grades requires a specific strategy. A tutor can focus on advanced topics, refine exam technique, and teach your child how to approach the most challenging questions to secure every possible mark. They act as a mentor, providing that expert guidance needed to turn a strong performance into an exceptional one.
What if my child doesn't click with their first tutor?
We know how important the right student-tutor relationship is. That's why we have our First Lesson Guarantee. If you don't get on with your tutor, email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover your first session with a new tutor.
How much does an online Maths tutor cost?
Our tutors set their own hourly rates based on their experience and qualifications. You can easily filter by price to find a brilliant tutor who fits your budget, with no hidden fees or contracts.
Are your tutors background-checked?
Yes, your child's safety is our top priority. All our tutors are background-checked and we interview every single one. We're very selective, accepting only 1 in every 8 tutors who apply, so you can be sure your child is in safe, expert hands.
How do online lessons work?
Our online classroom has everything your child needs for a great lesson, including a two-way interactive whiteboard, video chat, and file sharing. All they need is a laptop or computer with a stable internet connection, a webcam, and a microphone.
My child has lost confidence in Maths. Can a tutor help with that?
Definitely. This is one of the most powerful benefits of one-to-one tutoring. A tutor provides a patient, encouraging space where your child can ask questions without fear of being judged. By breaking down tricky topics and celebrating small wins, they help rebuild that self-belief, which often has a huge impact on their grades.
Is this just for school subjects, or can my child learn other skills like coding or guitar?
We offer tutoring in over 300 subjects! So while we're here to help with Maths, English, and Science, your child can also explore hobbies and develop new skills like learning to code in Python, playing the guitar, or even learning a new language.
How often should my child have a lesson?
Most families find that one hour-long lesson per week is ideal for consistent progress. However, it's completely flexible. You might want more frequent sessions in the run-up to an exam. You can discuss what's best for your child directly with your chosen tutor.
How do I know if tutoring is working?
You'll likely see a change in your child's confidence first. Tutors provide regular feedback on their progress, and you can see their understanding grow session by session. With over 4,100 reviews giving us a 4.6-star rating, parents consistently tell us about the positive impact tutoring has.
