Encouraging Maths Tutor
Over a span of eight years I have sat 19 GCSE exams, 25 A-level exams, 4 entrance exams and 39 university exams to get to where I am today. None of my GCSE or A-level results were below a grade A and always achieved a first or a high 2:1 in my university exams. I attribute this to my exam technique, perseverance and passion for my subjects, which are qualities I strive to impart to my students. In my lessons, I will explain the principles and motivation behind the topics we cover and we will discuss exam and revision techniques - drawing on my own experience. My goal is not to make students memorise...

Experienced primary school teacher who loves Maths!
I have 23 years of experience teaching in a primary school and have always had a love of maths. As the maths lead in my school, I ensure maths is taught in a fun way, allowing all children to succeed. Not all children learn in the same way and some will need different approaches to engage them with the subject.Once I assess the level of need for your child, I tailor the lessons accordingly focusing on subjects they need support with or just further consolidation.Learning through games and competition has always been a successful tool used in my classroom and as such, children have been able to...
Chris has really helped me so far in year 13 with maths. He explains and breaks down difficult concepts in a way that is easy to understand and goes through exam questions which is very useful. I would really recommend him to other A level maths students.

Jack R
We’ve had a fantastic experience with Jack as a maths tutor - so far my daughter had three sessions with him. Jack is an excellent communicator and explains concepts clearly and step-by-step, making even the all topics feel manageable. His lessons are well-structured and thoughtfully tailored to my daughter’s needs (we aim for confidence in class and confident GCSE mark).
Jack is also incredibly friendly and positive, which creates a really encouraging learning environment - one of my key requirements. My daughter genuinely enjoys her lessons with him and is already feeling much more confident in her maths curriculum. Highly recommended!

Brilliant Maths tutors who you’ll really click with.
Our experienced tutors take the time to understand where each student needs to focus and their preferred way of learning. They make a measurable difference – 90% of all students improve by at least one grade.
My child is aiming for Sir John Deane's College. Can a tutor help them secure the necessary GCSE Maths grade?
Yes, absolutely. Many parents in Helsby share this goal. Our tutors can focus specifically on the topics and exam techniques needed to help your child aim for a grade 6, 7, or higher in GCSE Maths, giving them the best possible chance of meeting the entry requirements.
We're thinking ahead to universities like Liverpool or Manchester for a STEM course. How can a tutor help now?
That's great forward planning. A strong GCSE Maths grade is the foundation for the A-Level choices that lead to competitive STEM degrees. A tutor helps by building a deep, lasting understanding of core concepts now, ensuring your child doesn't just pass their GCSEs but develops the confidence and skills needed for future success.
How do I choose the right Maths tutor for my child?
The best way is to watch their introductory videos, read reviews from other parents, and send a message to a few tutors to see who feels like the best fit. You can discuss your child's specific needs and goals before booking to ensure it's the right match.
What if we don't click with the first tutor?
We understand that the right personal connection is key to successful learning. That's why we have our First Lesson Guarantee. If you don't get on with your tutor for any reason, just email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover your first session with a new tutor.
How can a tutor help my child if they've lost confidence in Maths?
This is one of the most powerful benefits of one-to-one tutoring. A great tutor creates a safe, encouraging environment where there are no silly questions. By going back over topics at your child's pace, they can rebuild foundational knowledge, experience 'lightbulb moments', and start to feel capable and confident again.
How much does online Maths tutoring cost?
Our tutors set their own rates, which you can see clearly on their profiles. Prices vary based on the tutor's experience and the level of study. This means you can find an excellent, experienced Maths tutor who fits your family's budget.
Are your tutors background-checked?
Yes, your child's safety is our top priority. All of our tutors are DBS checked and we interview every single one. We are very selective and only accept 1 in 8 tutors who apply, so you can be sure your child is in safe, expert hands.
How does online tutoring work?
It's simple and effective. All lessons take place in our purpose-built online classroom, which features a two-way interactive whiteboard, video chat, and file sharing. Your child can work through problems with their tutor in real-time, just as they would in person.
How often should my child have a lesson?
Most students have one hour-long lesson per week, as this provides consistency and keeps momentum going. However, this is completely flexible and you can arrange a schedule that works best for your child and their tutor.
Can a tutor help with specific topics my child finds difficult, like algebra?
Definitely. That's the great thing about one-to-one tuition. If your child is struggling with a specific area like algebra or geometry, the tutor can dedicate entire lessons to that topic until your child feels confident and ready to move on.
Do you only offer tutoring for academic subjects like Maths?
While we have fantastic tutors for core subjects like Maths, English, and Science, we also offer support in a huge range of other areas. Whether your child wants to learn a musical instrument like the guitar, get ahead with coding, or explore a new language, we can help them find an expert tutor.
What happens in a typical first lesson?
The first lesson is usually about getting to know each other. The tutor will chat with your child about their goals, what they enjoy (and don't enjoy!) about Maths, and identify any areas they want to work on. It's a relaxed way to build a good relationship from the start.
