Jon P
Experienced Maths tutor & Imperial graduate
Hi, I'm Jon! I'm a graduate of Imperial College, where I studied Physics and I've since gone on to pursue a career in software and have worked for several AI startups. I really enjoy tutoring and have taught 100+ hours of lessons in maths, physics and chemistry from pre-GCSE all the way up to A-level - most of these have been repeat students who have enjoyed the process and, importantly, have gone on to achieve their goals and the results they were after.Even though I now have a Physics degree, maths did not come naturally at school and exams gave me major anxiety. It was pure determination from...

Jack R
We’ve had a fantastic experience with Jack as a maths tutor - so far my daughter had three sessions with him. Jack is an excellent communicator and explains concepts clearly and step-by-step, making even the all topics feel manageable. His lessons are well-structured and thoughtfully tailored to my daughter’s needs (we aim for confidence in class and confident GCSE mark).
Jack is also incredibly friendly and positive, which creates a really encouraging learning environment - one of my key requirements. My daughter genuinely enjoys her lessons with him and is already feeling much more confident in her maths curriculum. Highly recommended!

My child attends The Broxbourne School. Can we find a tutor familiar with the high expectations for GCSE Maths?
Absolutely. Many of our tutors are experienced in helping students aim for top grades (7-9) needed for competitive schools. You can view their profiles, read reviews from other parents, and find someone with a proven track record of helping students secure places on their chosen A-Level courses.
We live in Broxbourne, so are the tutors also local?
Not necessarily. The great thing about online tutoring is that you can choose the absolute best tutor for your child from anywhere in the UK. This gives you access to a much wider pool of subject experts than would be available locally, ensuring you find the perfect match for your child's specific needs and learning style.
What if we don't click with the first tutor?
We want to make sure it's the perfect fit for your child. That's why we have our First Lesson Guarantee. If you don't get on with your tutor, email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover your first session with a new tutor.
How do I pick the right Maths tutor for my child?
You can watch tutors' introductory videos, read reviews from other parents, and check their qualifications and experience on their profile. You can also message them before booking to discuss your child's needs and ensure they're a good fit.
How can a tutor help if my child has lost confidence in Maths?
This is one of the most powerful benefits of one-to-one tutoring. A great tutor can create a safe, encouraging space for your child to ask questions without fear of judgement. By going back over topics they've struggled with and celebrating small wins, they can rebuild your child's self-belief step-by-step.
How much does a Maths tutor cost?
Prices vary depending on the tutor's experience and qualifications. You can easily filter tutors by price on our search page to find someone who fits your budget. All pricing is shown clearly on their profiles with no hidden costs.
Are all tutors background-checked?
Yes, your child's safety is our top priority. Every single tutor on our platform has passed an enhanced DBS check. We also interview every tutor and verify their ID to ensure you can find someone you trust.
What happens in an online Maths lesson?
Our online classroom has all the tools your child needs, including an interactive whiteboard, video chat, and file sharing. Tutors can use these tools to work through problems together, review homework, and explain topics in a clear, visual way, just as they would in person.
Can a tutor help with A-Level Maths as well as GCSE?
Yes, many of our tutors are specialists in A-Level Maths. Getting support early can help your child make a smooth transition from GCSE and build a strong foundation for success in their sixth-form studies.
Do you only offer tutoring for school subjects like Maths?
While we have fantastic tutors for core subjects like Maths, English, and Science, we also offer support in a huge range of other areas. Whether your child wants to learn a musical instrument like the guitar, get into coding with Python, or prepare for a university degree, we have tutors who can help.
How long is a typical tutoring session?
Most sessions are one hour long, which is usually the perfect amount of time to cover a topic in depth without your child losing focus. However, you can arrange different session lengths with your tutor to fit your child's needs and your family's schedule.
How do I know if my child is making progress?
Our tutors provide regular feedback to help you track your child's progress. You can also message your tutor at any time to discuss how things are going. The biggest sign, though, is often seeing your child's confidence grow and their attitude towards Maths become more positive.
