Jack R
We’ve had a fantastic experience with Jack as a maths tutor - so far my daughter had three sessions with him. Jack is an excellent communicator and explains concepts clearly and step-by-step, making even the all topics feel manageable. His lessons are well-structured and thoughtfully tailored to my daughter’s needs (we aim for confidence in class and confident GCSE mark).
Jack is also incredibly friendly and positive, which creates a really encouraging learning environment - one of my key requirements. My daughter genuinely enjoys her lessons with him and is already feeling much more confident in her maths curriculum. Highly recommended!

Brilliant Maths tutors who you’ll really click with.
Our experienced tutors take the time to understand where each student needs to focus and their preferred way of learning. They make a measurable difference – 90% of all students improve by at least one grade.
My child attends Gryffe High School. Can a tutor help them meet its high academic standards in Maths?
Absolutely. Many of our tutors have experience helping students navigate the specific pressures of high-achieving schools. They can tailor lessons to the SQA curriculum, focusing on the key topics your child needs to master for National 5 and Higher Maths to feel confident and prepared.
We're hoping for a competitive course at the University of Glasgow or Strathclyde. Can a Maths tutor help with this goal?
Yes, definitely. A strong Higher Maths grade is often a prerequisite for top Scottish university courses. Our tutors can help your child not only secure that grade but also develop the deeper understanding and problem-solving skills needed to thrive once they get there.
How do I choose the right Maths tutor for my child?
You can browse tutor profiles to see their experience, qualifications, and reviews from other parents. Many tutors offer a short introductory chat to see if they are a good fit before you book. It's all about finding someone your child feels comfortable with.
What if my child doesn't click with their first tutor?
We know how important the right fit is. That’s why we have our First Lesson Guarantee. If you don't get on with your tutor for any reason, just email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover your first session with a new tutor.
How much does an online Maths tutor cost?
Prices vary depending on the tutor's experience and qualifications, but you can see each tutor's hourly rate clearly on their profile. There are no hidden fees or contracts, so you have complete control over what you spend.
How do you vet your tutors?
We take safety and quality very seriously. Every tutor is interviewed, background-checked, and we verify their qualifications. We're very selective and only accept 1 in 8 tutors who apply, so you can be sure your child is in safe, expert hands.
Can a tutor help if my child has lost their confidence in Maths?
Yes, this is one of the most common reasons parents seek a tutor. A great tutor provides a safe, encouraging space for your child to ask questions without feeling embarrassed. By breaking down topics and celebrating small wins, they can rebuild your child's self-belief step-by-step.
How do the online lessons work?
Our online classroom has everything your child needs for a great lesson, including a shared whiteboard, video chat, and file sharing. It’s a simple and effective way to learn from the comfort of your own home, and all you need is a laptop or computer and a stable internet connection.
Are your tutors familiar with the Scottish curriculum (SQA)?
Yes, many of our tutors are experts in the Scottish curriculum. You can use our search filters to find tutors with specific experience in teaching for National 5, Higher, and Advanced Higher qualifications, ensuring the support is perfectly matched to what your child is learning in school.
Do you only offer tutoring for school subjects like Maths?
Not at all! While we help thousands of students with academic subjects from Primary to degree level, we also have expert tutors for hobbies and professional skills. Whether your child wants to learn to play the guitar, get started with coding, or even learn a new language, we can help.
How long are the tutoring sessions?
Typically, sessions are one hour long. This gives enough time to cover a topic in depth without your child losing focus. However, you can discuss different session lengths with your tutor to find what works best for your child's schedule and concentration.
How quickly can we expect to see an improvement?
Every child learns at their own pace, but our data shows that 90% of students improve by at least one grade. The biggest change parents often notice first is a boost in their child's confidence and a more positive attitude towards the subject, which can happen after just a few sessions.
