Make Maths Fun ! GCSE Maths Tutor.
I am 64 and have spent most of my working life caring for children and young people. My education in Maths went up to Degree level at Sheffield University. My experience of tutoring is informal and relies on my interpersonal skills with young people. I take a person centred approach developed when achieving a Certificate in Counselling to address issues identified by the student. I believe everyone can do Maths and my approach to those who struggle is to identify their blocks with students and to install the confidence to overcome them. Theresa is a fantastic Maths tutor! She is knowledgable and patient, and creates a very supportive learning environment. She has been teaching my sister for a while now, and has been essential in boosting her confidence and keeping her on track to get a 9 in her GCSEs - Theresa has now helped her through multiple mock exams and even sixth form entrance exams. Her communication is always great and she's super friendly - highly recommend!!

Liz B
Liz is an amazing tutor, our daughter is currently in her final GCSE year. Liz has spent time on understanding the gaps in her knowledge by spending time looking at her mock results, and then creating tailored sessions to close those gaps down. The sessions are at the right pace and Liz adjusts them on how quickly my daughter is picking the method being taught. Our daughter has come on massively with this extra 121 tutoring from Liz, and has really boosted her confidence.

I can’t recommend Tara enough! In just two months, she helped me improve my Maths GCSE grade from a 6 to a 7, which felt impossible before I started. Her teaching style is excellent—clear, patient, and really well-structured. She explains difficult topics in a way that actually makes sense and tailors lessons to focus on weaknesses while building confidence. Every session was productive and motivating, and I felt fully supported throughout. Thanks to her guidance, my understanding and exam technique improved massively. An outstanding tutor!

Our experienced tutors take the time to understand where each student needs to focus and their preferred way of learning. They make a measurable difference – 90% of all students improve by at least one grade.
My child wants to study sciences at Kendal College. Can a tutor help them get the required Maths GCSE grade?
Absolutely. Many of our Maths GCSE tutors specialise in helping students secure the higher grades (7-9) needed for competitive A-Level courses like Chemistry, Physics, and Biology. They can focus on the specific topics that will give your child the best chance of success.
We're hoping for a place at Lancaster University in the future. How can Maths GCSE tutoring help with that long-term goal?
A strong Maths GCSE grade is a crucial first step. It opens the door to the A-Levels that top universities like Lancaster look for. A tutor helps build a solid foundation not just for the exam, but for the more advanced study that follows, developing the independent learning skills they'll need.
What happens if we don't click with the first tutor?
We understand that the right fit is essential. That's why we have our First Lesson Guarantee. If you don't get on with your tutor for any reason, just email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover your first session with a new tutor.
Do you only offer academic subjects, or can my child learn other skills?
We offer a huge range of subjects beyond the school curriculum! From learning to play the guitar or speak Spanish, to mastering coding with Python, we have expert tutors who can help your child explore their passions and develop new skills.
How do I choose the right Maths GCSE tutor for my child?
You can watch tutors' introductory videos, read reviews from other parents, and check their qualifications. We recommend messaging a few to discuss your child's needs before booking. It's about finding someone your child will feel comfortable learning with.
How much does online Maths GCSE tutoring cost in Kendal?
Prices vary depending on the tutor's experience and qualifications. You can see each tutor's hourly rate clearly on their profile. There are no hidden fees or contracts, so you just pay for the lessons you book.
How can a tutor help my child if they've lost confidence in Maths?
Confidence is key. A one-to-one tutor creates a safe space where your child can ask questions without feeling embarrassed. By breaking down topics into manageable steps and celebrating small wins, they help rebuild self-belief, which often has a huge impact on their results.
How does the online classroom work?
Our online classroom has everything your child needs for an effective lesson, including a video chat, an interactive whiteboard, and the ability to share documents. It's simple to use and allows your child to learn from the comfort of home.
Are the tutors background-checked?
Yes, your child's safety is our top priority. All our tutors are background-checked and we only accept 1 in every 8 who apply, so you can be sure your child is learning from the best.
How often should my child have a lesson?
Most parents find that a one-hour lesson each week is ideal for consistent progress. However, it's completely flexible. You can arrange lessons with your tutor to fit your child's needs, whether that's a regular slot or a few extra sessions before an exam.
How can tutoring help my child improve their grade?
By providing personalised attention that's not always possible in a busy classroom. Tutors can identify and fill specific knowledge gaps, teach effective exam techniques, and work at your child's pace. This targeted support is why 90% of students improve by at least one grade with us.
My child is already doing well but wants to aim for a grade 9. Can a tutor help?
Definitely. Our tutors are brilliant at stretching high-achieving students. They can introduce more complex problems and exam-style questions to challenge your child, helping them develop the deeper understanding needed to secure the very top grades.
