Rory F
Rory is tutoring my son for his A level History and has been superb in his support from the get go. Rory has helped him understand the essay writing structure and technique distinctions between GCSE and A level. Rory's lessons are well planned and his advice and guidance tailored to detailed understanding of topic content and maximising the knowledge gleaned to various exam questions e.g. the difference between just describing and actual argument / evidence evaluation. Rory is very approachable and provides feedback to parents on how well lessons have progressed and, importantly, where the biggest opportunities are for the student ahead of their set homework. I would strongly recommend Rory as a tutor.

Can a tutor help my child in Carmarthen prepare a strong History application for competitive universities like Swansea or Cardiff?
Absolutely. This is a key reason many parents come to us. Our tutors, many of whom are university lecturers or experienced A-Level teachers, can provide specific support for developing the advanced analytical and essay-writing skills that top universities look for. They can help your child engage with historical debates and craft a personal statement that showcases their passion and ability.
My child's school in Carmarthenshire is good, but I worry they're not being stretched. Can a tutor help?
Yes, we can. A one-to-one tutor can supplement their schoolwork by exploring topics in greater depth, introducing more complex sources, and challenging them with university-level concepts. It’s the perfect way to nurture a bright student’s curiosity and ensure they are fully prepared for the next academic step.
Is online tutoring as effective as in-person tutoring?
We find it’s just as effective, and often more so. Online tutoring gives your child in Carmarthen access to a much wider pool of specialist tutors from across the UK. With features like interactive whiteboards and resource sharing, lessons are incredibly engaging. Plus, the convenience of learning from home without travel is a huge benefit for busy families.
What if my child doesn't click with their first History tutor?
Finding the right fit is the most important thing. We have a first lesson guarantee, so if it's not a perfect match, just email our support team at support@tutorful.co.uk and we will cover the cost of your first session with a new tutor.
Are your tutors qualified to teach History?
Yes, they are. We have a rigorous selection process, accepting only 1 in 8 applicants. Our History tutors include qualified teachers, examiners, and subject-matter experts with degrees from top universities. You can view each tutor’s full profile, qualifications, and reviews to find the perfect person for your child.
How much does online History tutoring cost?
Prices vary depending on the tutor's experience and level of study, but typically range from £25 to £50 per hour. Tutors set their own rates, and you can easily filter by price on our website to find someone who fits your budget. There are no hidden fees or contracts.
How do I know if my child is making progress?
Our tutors provide regular feedback to both you and your child. They will identify areas for improvement and celebrate successes. Many parents tell us the first sign of progress is seeing their child’s confidence grow – they start contributing more in class and stop dreading homework.
What equipment does my child need for online lessons?
It’s very simple. All your child needs is a laptop or computer with a webcam, a microphone, and a stable internet connection. Our online classroom is browser-based, so there's no complex software to install.
Can a tutor help my child connect their studies to Carmarthen's local history?
Many tutors are brilliant at making History relevant. If you mention your child's interest in local sites like the Roman amphitheatre or Carmarthen Castle, a tutor can certainly incorporate that into lessons to make the past feel more tangible and exciting.
Do you offer tutoring for other subjects besides History?
We do! We have expert tutors across more than 300 subjects, from core academic subjects like Maths, English and the Sciences, to languages, musical instruments, and even coding. Whatever your child needs help with, we're here to support them.
How long are the tutoring sessions and how often should they be?
Most sessions are an hour long, which is usually ideal for maintaining focus. The frequency is completely up to you and what your child needs. Many students have one session a week, but you can arrange more frequent lessons during exam periods or less frequent top-ups as needed.
How do I know if my child is making progress?
Yes, our tutors can provide targeted support for specific needs, including exam technique, revision strategies, and help with structuring coursework or essays. They can help your child understand the assessment criteria and produce their best work, but please note they will not complete the work for them.
